The Bike Shop - Probably the biggest choice of bikes in the region.

Not too good for buying mountain bikes, but OK for lots of other things…read more I've been into The Bike Shop on Crossgates Road quite a few times over the last few weeks as I have been in the process of buying bikes for myself and my fiance. It's great for the casual cyclist. However, and it's quite a big however, they don't have that much choice of manufactures and they don't have a lot of bikes out on display. For example, they only had Specialized women's bikes built up and in the store. Their other relatively high-end manufacturer is Kona and they have some pricing issues at the moment as most people will be aware. On the plus side, the staff are extremely helpful, and they have a very good selection of kids bikes, BMX and commuter cycles. Although we bought our bikes elsewhere, we did go back to this store to purchase a car rack and a fair few other accessories and they were really helpful showing me how to set the bike rack up on my car.

So we looked at lots of specialsed bike shops that were really out of our price range. We thought Evans are a big company we will get the range we need. They had 2 bikes in the store to suit our price range but the staff were worse than disinterested. We couldn't pry the information we needed out of the member of staff. We went back on the internet and found the Bike Shop on Crossgates Road, Leeds. What an amazing experience! A massive range of quality bikes. The staff are so helpful and can't do enough for you. I can highly recommend The Bike Shop, we need 2 more bikes next year and will definitely be going back. A VERY HAPPY CUSTOMER

On arriving at the shop to collect my bike I was charged an extra £12 for brake pads, at £42 it was on the expensive side already but I was confident I'd received a quality service. Upon getting my bike home I quickly realised the rear brake was leaking fluid from the bleed screw. The technicians in the shop had given me the bike back with a cracked washer (that seals the bleed screw). I spoke to the shop and they were fully aware of the fact the washer was cracked and told me to bring to bike back in. I took the bike back in and trusted it was a genuine mistake and the problem would be rectified. Upon returning to shop to collect my bike for the second time I was charged another £10 for more brake pads! £52 pounds so far which is almost the price of having car brakes serviced. I got the bike home and within an hour the brake had bled ALL of the fluid out (meaning the brake was in worse condition than when I first took it in). I spoke to the owner on the phone and he told me to once again bring the bike in. I mentioned the possibility of a refund for the services I'd paid for and not received and was told to simply come into the shop again. I enquired what the situation would be if the shop couldn't fix the brake after I'd paid them and was told the technicians hadn't wasted their time so they could only meet me half way. After a little more discussion on the definition of a "repair" the owner hung up the phone and I haven't heard anything back since. So here I am, £52 out of pocket and my brakes are in worse condition than before I took them in for repair. Poor service at premium prices. Extremely disappointing.

Inside, an excellent range of bikes and accessories. Staff are knowledgeable and helpful. And don't worry if you're a beginner, they can explain your options without patronising. When buying our children bikes from there, they have made sure that we've chosen the correct ones for their size and skill. I'm pretty sure they wouldn't sell you an inappropriate bike.
