I have been to Minsky's many times! I started loving them even more when I transitioned to a Pescatarian diet. I then started getting their vegetarian Chicago deep dish. The first time I had it, it was amazing ! It had an amazing drizzle that has a little spice, tomatoes, ricotta cheese, garlic and topped with a generous amount of arugula. I went to the Independence location to hang out with family and picked us up some food. I went in and placed my order. While I waited for the food I went to the bar. The staff was very friendly and told me about their happy hour drinks. I chose my go to though, tequila on the rocks. It was a nice pour and reasonable price. Once I got to my family's, I was so excited to dig in but I was so disappointed when I didn't see any arugula on my pizza. I called to see what happened. I was so sad to learn that the Independence location does not put arugula on their pizza. My pizza was still good but it was not good as I could have been. I now know for next time that I need to go to another location if I want arugula. read more

Came with a friend who spoke highly about the pizza so we ordered some food and took a seat at the bar, ordered some drinks, while we waited on our food. The drink I ordered was from their specials to which they have certain alcohol that they are trying to get rid of. However after placing my order I was told they didn't have the liquor but would substitute it with something else. I chose another liquor however I honestly couldn't taste the liquor to which I asked the bartender if any was poured in and she kept telling me yes, but I couldn't tell. We waited a LONG time, had finished our drinks and still no food. Finally had to ask and was told they would check on it and still nothing. Finally got our food, had to ask for cheese & red pepper and we left. When we got to our location, there was some disappointment - the Philly sandwich that we asked no cheese on, had lots of cheese, the pizza that was suppose to have arugula had none. We called the restaurant up and this is when we were told that this location does put the arugula on the pizza that per the menu has arugula on it, that when ordering the cashier was taken aback by the fact that it has arugula on it when we asked her to please read the toppings for the pizza and at that time she didn't mention "we don't have arugula at this location". On a high note, the Turkey club sandwich was enough that it could have been shared, especially as it was ordered with a side salad. Would I come back? Pizza is so subjective that it can still be great pizza but it might taste terrible to certain people, so I don't judge the people who marked Minsky's low for the taste. Personally, I grew up eating Minsky's and Shakey's Pizza so it's one of my favorites. If you've never eaten here, there are at least a couple dozen styles of pizza with several different types of crusts. Or you can just be basic and get a pepperoni and be happy with it. They also have sandwiches, pastas, salads, calzones, terrific appetizers and desserts. Even a kid's menu if your tot doesn't want your loaded supreme pizza! This isn't my usual Minsky's and I do tend to find this one often understaffed, but I rarely have a problem. When I do, they are great about making it right. Fun note: Recently, I had dinner there and my drink, appetizer and even my pizza came to my table wrong. Instead of getting outraged, I good-naturedly teased my waiter that Minsky's was having a bad day and we both ended up laughing. Just know that customer service does not exist in this location. The company has failed this manager on customer service training. I am so upset, I was obviously upset when I was there, and instead of any effort to help me or diffuse the situation, she paniced and disappeared without offering a single resolution to how we were treated. And I left there upset, unheard, unresolved and frustrated!!! I have been going to this location for years. Between this interaction and the impossibility to reach anyone above her I turn to the internet to share this aweful experience. Heads up minsky's this would have easily been resolved by training your employees to recognize when a situation is beginning to escalate and train them to defuse the situation before it leaves your restaurant! Our pizza was great last night. It was our second visit to this location and won't be our last. Our server, Vicki, was friendly and very helpful. We especially like the pub-like atmosphere and found it to be a comfortable spot for casual dining. We will return in the future when we want a value and good quality food. I will never understand the Kansas City fascination with Minsky's Pizza. I suffered through many pizza nights here when I was younger and living closer to my mother. After almost a decade of abstaining from their food I decided to give them a shot. I didn't think it was possible to be worse than I remembered but the brand expansion must have really hurt the product. I ordered the Kelceroni on Honey Wheat and some Cheese Breadsticks. The pizza was a full wreck. The crust was mostly raw - the bottom had zero browning and was VERY limp. The sauce was okay~ The cheese suffered from zero stretch, under-salting, and just real blandness. As for the toppings - the "cupping pepperoni" were pretty good, but the soppressata is cut waaay too thick for a pizza. The cheese breadsticks might as well have been forgotten because they were also under baked, not raw, but were entirely pale and flavorless. The marinara that came with the sauce had clearly been sitting in the warmer all day. This being a Saturday and my order coming at the usual diner rush hour. This is definitely the final nail in the coffin for Minsky's for me. Really posting this as to not forget 10 more years down the line. read more

I used to visit this place regularly before the pandemic and it was always wonderful, but I'm basing this review on my last visit 2 years ago. I had time on my hands after thrift store shopping and thought I'd pay a visit to Minsky's, who had never disappointed me before. Before I had always ordered a small salad and a small pizza with shrimp. But I noticed shrimp was no longer on the menu. Nor were anchovies - my second go-to fishy item. So I asked at the counter and was told that those items had been discontinued. After studying the menu, I ordered a side salad and a small Hawaiian pizza. Well, the salad was ok, but it didn't have the goodies on it I used to get before. But it was just a side salad, so I didn't expect it to be as good. But the pizza was definitely off. It lacked that special something that always made Minsky's pizza so good. It tasted . . . funny. Like they had replaced all the real ingredients with artificial ones. I was glad I'd only gotten a small one. I picked at it until it was gone. But I certainly didn't enjoy it. I thought about taking it back to the counter. But I didn't know what to tell the server. It wasn't as good as I remembered? So I left, sadly disappointed. And I read on the web that the same thing happened to others who ate at Minsky's. It's just not the same pizza. They cut corners somewhere, and it definitely affected the taste. And not for the better. I can only hope the people who run Minsky's now will read the reviews and change back what they messed up. This KC staple has great pizza and locations all over the metro area.Stopped in to get a to go order. Call in was a breeze. Advised pizza would be ready in 20 minutes. Greeted with a hello and told it would be a few minutes. The lobby was clean and music played in the background. Took a seat and then the pizza came out. Smoking hot and smelling very good. When we took the first bite the cheese melted and was extra flavorful. Crust cooked slightly brown and the meat was delicious. They have weekly specials and a happy hour if I'm not mistaken. Well...alright. I wanted pizza of a more refined taste,and I had my 19 year old son and his friend with me. I chose Minskys, cause the honey/wheat crust kicks it every time. I ordered cheesey breadsticks,and my son ordered a large pizza with ricotta cheese and Canadian bacon topping. We also had drinks, soda and iced tea for me. It was around 2:30, no one was there except us. The service was quick, and pleasant. The music in the background softly played, and we enjoyed our conversation, until a Blink 182 song played on the restaurant soundtrack. I think the three of us just stopped and burst into song at that point. Heck, there wasn't anyone to watch us, we had the place to ourselves. The server brought out the cheesey breadsticks, which I was looking forward to. I've had them before, usually they are browned perfectly,and full of flavor. Boy, I'll never ever ever in my life ever order these again. Imagine if you will, Lorna Doone cookies without the sugar. Then, imagine the same thing, not browned, with melted mozerella cheese on top, in the shape of a breadstick. I know, I should've sent them back. the educated Yelper would, but my son is very sensitive, and thinks I'd be over reacting. Had I'd sent them back, I'd still be hearing about it. So I ate one, and it tasted like biting into flour with mozzarella cheese. Meh and the very act of the taste was absent, like a tasteless mouth full of cooked flour with melted mozzarella cheese on top. Never ever again. The pizza was actually pretty good. I ordered my pizza and planned my timeline and arrival according to the 25 min wait time for the pizza to be done. I had a really busy evening. I told them I had a coupon as well. I arrived on time and when they showed me the pizza it had mushrooms on both sides & my husband doesn't like them (order clearly indicated to put them on one half). They didn't know what to do and I had to leave to keep my schedule on time. They offered to remake it in 20 minutes. I refused because I didn't have that kind of time to waste. Also, the coupon wouldn't go through on the register and the young kid at the register tried to tell me it was expired- that it read "now thru the 24th so since it was the 24th it was expired." I explained that the date meant it was good till today the 24th and tomorrow it would be expired. So they called the manager. He came out and while he worked on putting in the coupon in he informed me they were remaking the pizza and it should only be 5 min. It was at least 15 min I was standing around waiting for the pizza. I was now late for everything after that. This is the poorest customer service I've seen. I didn't get any further discount for my time wasted waiting for a pizza that was remade incorrectly again. This time they put heavy sauce on it and we always order lite sauce. I will try Blue Springs next time and leave the Independence location alone. Not returning! read more

Minsky's was set to cater our daughter's wedding this past weekend. We had been working with their catering coordinator who had worked for Minsky's for 15 years. 30 minutes before the wedding was set to begin, we got a call from one of the managers, Ryan, who informed us that the catering coordinator had quit that morning, and they did not have any details about our menu. While they were not able to do what we had originally planned, Ryan was extremely apologetic and said he would do whatever he could to get food to us. They were able to get enough pizza for 160 people and have it there on time, just two hours after we had spoken. They did not charge us for the pizza, wrote a kind apology note to the bride and groom, and even gave them a Visa gift card for the inconvenience and trouble. While this is not a situation anyone would want to have happen 30 minutes before their wedding, Ryan and his staff from the Independence and Raymore stores were remarkable in providing food for our guests. The pizza was fantastic, and our daughter and son-in-law have a wedding memory they will never forget. Thank you, Minsky's, for saving the day! read more
