I later learned that it's a Shell gas station IGA grocery store hybrid. It looks very unassuming from the outside, but it's almost bordering on a gourmet grocery (or gourmet for the area). I visited mostly for the restrooms, which they don't have many of (only two stalls), but it's fine. Walking around, they have aisles of groceries -- almost everything you could need. They also have a frozen section, a "beer cave," lots of snacks for the road, coffee and other stuff. There's also a chicken restaurant inside, with lots of tables to sit and eat there. The store was clean and very organized, and it was a pleasant experience to visit.

And, my Buc-ee's cherry has now officially been popped. The experience was truly a unique one and its like a gas station convenience store on steroids and I, of course, was completely overwhelmed. I came in here during the July 4th weekend and there were people everywhere. I think I probably have some level of social anxiety because all I was trying to do the entire time in the store was to get away from people, which proved almost impossible. I did wander the entire store and I probably spent close to an hour here. Talk about a place where it traps your money, this would be it. I ended up getting a jar of pickled okra (because I have never had this) and also a bag of fried cajun pecans. Both items were very good and still enjoying them back on the West Coast. I think I had one of their ready made brisket sandwich and it was ok, I'm not too much into BBQ so it wasn't like mindblowing for me. I had a potato salad too and that was good. I just wanted a diet soda for my 2 hour drive back and I guess Buc-ee's doesnt carry fountain diet. Does that make any sense? I was pretty impressed with their many many gas pumps which I believe is their claim to fame, but, what I needed was to clean my windshield from all the bugs and I could not seem to locate this windshield washing station that apparently exists. While it was good to experience a place like this, I think for me, it was sensory and capitalist overload for me. And, we wonder why we have an obesity and chronic disease epidemic...places like these enable us to be on our worst behavior and something felt inherently wrong for me to be in here. Call me a masochist, but I enjoy torturing myself running miles just to burn off enough calories in a day to not gain weight and a place like this conflicts with the workout junkie in me. Found the recent review of Webb Mart and called ahead. Popped by there it saved us time going farther to Brownsville and even better we were able to pickup a pound of pulled pork, with sauce, margarine, and canned spinach to make a decent semblance of dinner given crazy stormy weather that is typical of spring in the area. Saw also some homemade cookies on the counter as well but we were set with desserts. Pulled pork was $15 for the pound, rest totaled to $22 incl tax. Nice option if you need to pickup things at the end of the day before 7 p.m.

They are often in short supply of basics such as bobbers, hooks, and swivels. They claim to have meal worms, but they only carry wax worms and try to tell me they are the same thing. The store has gone from a handy one-stop for bait, tackle, ice, and convenience groceries to your basic convenience store. In my opinion, its saving grace is the very tasty pizza at a very reasonable price.
