Just like any minimarket in Santiago, Don Francis has a wide variety of canned goods, ice cream, as well as some cheese, meats, eggs - really anything you would need last minute. You can even pay your bills here via Servipag (if you still haven't taken up online billing).
However, all of this stuff makes for a somewhat regular minimarket. Don Francis, conveniently located a few blocks from the Santa Lucia metro, makes some of the best donuts I have had in Santiago and super cheap at 500 pesos the donut. They are made in the back with the rest of their pastries such as "calzones rotas" (sweet fried dough with 2 holes, dusted with powdered sugar) as well as conejos (like a Berlin cream puff but with custard in the middle).
However, their donuts are like nothing I have tried before. These are not for the light-hearted (or those who are on a diet) as they are super fried, making for a deliciously crunchy yet fluffy dough that has you licking your lips. They are not left to be glazed or frosted, these donuts are covered in real, melted chocolate (either white or milk) left to cool and harden before being enjoyed. A piece of heaven in each bite.
Don Francis is great for any essentials you might need but they really out-do themselves with their pastries - delicious and cheap. read more
