I think it's funny that they charge 33% more for beer brewed on location. Even funnier is that they…read moreonly had one beer available that was actually brewed on site. All kind of defeating the purpose of a craft brew pub in my opinion. Also the staff don't really have any personality especially the bartenders. They serve and disappear like robots. Aren't brewpubs supposed to be fun and outgoing? I didn't eat only drank. The menu is basically your typical bar food... Nothing really inspiring... Burgers, hot dogs, coxinha, etc. I gave 2 stars because the atmosphere is really cool and the beer was just alright. 2.5 is probably more accurate. However, I'm probably not going to come back and I would not recommend it.

In the US there are many micro brews but here there are only four in the entire city. I tried the Weiss Beer and the Red Ale. Both are fantastic. Both are well balanced with just the right amount of bitter units for the type of beer. The wheat beer rivals Paulaner Weiss micro brew in NYC. The Red Ale is in the English style and is s better version of Old Speckled Hen. Great beer is only part of the story. The owner is very engaging and speaks some English. Show some interest in how beer is made and he will have you smelling New Zealand hops and explaining how temperature at fermentation impacts his beers. This place is the perfect place to kill an hour or an afternoon.

There were certainly plenty of Japanese speaking customers mixed in with Portuguese. And I, the odd tourist, felt right at home. The bamboo shoot and shitake mushroom appetizers were delectable. The chicken broth ramen was insipid. The Gyukatsu Kare (breaded fried beef with curry sauce over rice) was better, but not the ultra crispy panko planks I've had in some places. Maybe it was because I ordered it at the end of the night. The Brazilian brewed cold sake was really good. Could hardly tell the difference from Japanese sake. But, the highlight of the dinner of Sanma Shio--grilled pike mackerel with sea salt. Inexpensive for Sanma, uber fresh, grilled crispy so that you could crunch up the head and tail! The service was prompt, efficient and very warm. Even the owner came by to chat several times. Arigato gozaimasu! Obrigado! Thank you.

Something to keep in mind if you're considering going here and you're a visitor. Other than that, the food is pretty standard izakaya fare- not that much of a Brazilian influence from what we could tell. And we're very familiar with the genre (tons of these in the NYC) so we knew what to expect. The food is pretty tasty and the service was pretty good. The restaurant kinda feels like you walked into someone's kitchen which is pretty interesting. But overall we've actually had much better Japanese food. So there's that. But not a bad option if you're looking for something completely different in São Paulo.
