There is a disc-golf course in the forest-like section of the park

This was as fantastic park to walk the dogs. This park is a tale of three cities so to speak, which all combine to make it one excellent place to hang out for a variety of activities. One edge of the park is a Japanese garden, complete with a nice pond, as well as a couple of nice foot bridges, open space, and multiple benches. The scenery was perfect to both take a short stroll around, and to relax on the benches. The rest of the park is made of dense trees, as if one has just entered a forest. Many of the trees are impressively large in both trunk size and height, and there is a canopy of shade throughout this area. Lastly, spattered throughout the forest-like section is a disc golf course. If one walks the whole park, there is a variety of scenery and enough of a walk to get your dogs some good exercise, esp. if one goes up and down as many sections of the forest-section as one can. We walked the pups here multiple times during our stay in Coos Bay, and would definitely recommend it.

This is a beautiful Park and we walk here at least twice a day when we are in the area. I would like to say things have gotten better but since the pandemic they have it. This area has closed down a lot of the homeless shelters and other services so don't go to the park after dark because it's filled with homeless. Be careful about hiking on the trails as you may see some undesirable items. It's not their fault they don't have anywhere else to go. This is a beautiful place to be during the day and in busy areas. It's a great place to take pictures the Japanese garden is beautiful. Don't let your dog drink the water because there are bugs in it unless they are on medication to control worms. People do fish here and there are a lot of ducklings to see this time of year. The Frisbee golf course is free and is a nice walk. There are tennis courts in the back and they are rarely full so if you want to play tennis bring your racket and a ball. The boy scout cabin is also located at this park. So there's a lot of things for scouting in the area. They took the picnic benches out from near the children's area which is good but now a lot of homeless people sleep there since it is a pretty large sheltered area. The pond is dirty and low currently but the lily's are beautiful. Overall this is a great place to walk your dog when it's busy. Once a year there are two weekends where they do free Shakespeare in the park. We usually attend at least 2 days. This year it was Macbeth. We walk the dog and then take him part of the show. The Shakespeare in the park usually curves Father's Day weekend and either weekend before or weekend after.

Lovely park! A couple different paths you can walk on, all beautiful. Cool water structures. Ponds were clean. Got to see ducklings! A fun experience for me and my pup

Beautiful place to take a walk! There are many benches to rest and take in the view or paths to explore as much as you like.

This is a gorgeous, natural reserve in the midst of what is a very small urban setting. It is easy to forget one is in a park following one of the many paths that wend through the wooded environs. There are even elk crossing warning signs bordering the park. There are very large populations of ducks and other water fowl in the large pond and the Japanese garden adornments make this place enchanting.

Very small and not well taken care of. A little TLC and this could be much better and there is room for expansion.

No fees & a nice parking area as you enter off of Hull street, close to Newmark. They don't allow motorized boats, but we spotted a couple of kayaks floating by, with the occupant casting a fishing line out. Beautiful scenery with well maintained, mostly shaded, asphalt trails. Very peaceful & the people we did see on the trail were polite & cordial.

Spots to fish and BBQ, launch non-motorized boats - great park! But unfortunately, it's frequently a camping spot for transients. And while not all transients are bad, we have experienced some that are on drugs, yelling, riding bikes at uncomfortably fast speeds, or just spitting and yelling at passersby. There was even a blunt sitting on an empty park bench. Which, shouldn't be an issue as marijuana is legal in this state, however, not only would someone not know what it's laced with, there are frequently children walking in that park and might come across it. If I didn't have my two dogs and my protector husband with me, you wouldn't catch me alone in that park ever. But with my bodyguards and always being alert and choosing my path wisely, I have some of the most amazing walks there!

The number of stellar sheltered harbors on the West Coast is about a handful and a half, border to…read moreborder. Coos Bay is one. The area has quite a few communities beyond the namesake Coos Bay, including North Bend, Cooston, North Bay, and others including Charleston. Charleston is a set of rolling highlands that separate Coos Bay from the ocean. So if you want ocean, go West! There you will find state beaches and the Bastendorff Park of Coos County. There is an overlook of the beach, down the cliff. To get to the beach, walk back down the road. There is a children's play structure, parking and a grassy area at the overlook. Continue up the hill for RV-type camp spots with water and power hookups and a bathroom structure. The individual camping areas are shaded, and carved from the brush, providing some privacy from adjacent campers. The group area is at the top of the hill and largely unshaded, grass covered and sunny when it's clear. Though there is not a view of the ocean from there or any of the camping spots, it can be heard. It's the gem of the park camping areas, with its own bathroom shower structure, clean and with a huge supply of hot water. There is also an electric cooktop, sink and kitchen counter under a roof with picnic tables for your group. Each camping spot has a fire grate, but bring your own cooking grate with a finer mesh to hold whatever you are grilling. Great and unobtrusive park staff. We had a great get-together here to honor a local fisherman friend lost at sea with 3 generations of families participating, from up and down the Western states, Coos style. We are all Oregonians. As a Portlander I honor all the people all over the state. I understand that they cut trees, graze cattle, grow crops, mine, fish, hopefully over the long term. We are all in it together. I like to support the small businesses when I get a chance to visit too. Like in Coos where fishing has had some tough times with the closure of the Sacramento River salmon seasons and some slim fish runs for the Klamath basin. Sounds like those fish are back strong this year. So thinking of all you in Coos, and encourage Yelpers to visit the Southern Oregon Coast and the small towns supporting its awesome oceanfront!
