I visited this place for the first time at the weekend…read more We walked up a flight of stairs to find a friendly waitress at the top of stairs who opened the glass door and welcomed us in with a smile on her face! We were told we could sit anywhere(which is always nice! I hate when you are shoved in beside someone and there is no one else in the restaurant!) It was busy enough vibe as there were 2 groups of people. We were immediately served prawn crackers in a lovely oriental bowl, we ordered chicken in black bean sauce and tofu in black bean sauce and enquired about what beer was the nicest, the waitress recommended a nice chinese beer, can't think of the name of it now, but it was the cheapest one on the menu, which made it all the nicer! :) Fresh jug of water and ice was promptly brought to our table and our dinner arrived shortly afterwards. We finished everything! Yum! For desert we had banana fritters, which was served with honey and icecream. Delicious! I saw on the menu they serve cocktails that are €4.50, which is a very good price, so I must go back to try those! The service and food were all top notch! Will definitely be back! :)

In 20 years of dining, this is the worst place I've ever been. The only positive thing I can say…read moreis, the food quality is ok (but loaded with salt). Here is our experience: 1-Brought to table by waitress that was inconvenienced by our arrival and couldn't even be bothered to make eye contact or make any plattitudes apart from telling us to "sit here". 2-We received no prawn crackers while waiting for food - everybody else got this 3-We waited 30 minutes to get the starter. I couldn't eat my soup as the gloop was disgusting. 4-We had to wait a further hour to get the main course 5-prices listed on the web are old, they have added on about 20% 6-Among other things, boiled rice costs €2 extra 7-asked a waiter for more water (to alleviate the side effects of extremely salty food) - he ignored us and was more interested in running to a car outside and walking around inside hovering around larger groups 8-The final insult was when we asked the same waiter for the bill, he ignored us again. We had to walk to the till. 9-We weren't asked if we enjoyed our food or if we were OK 10-I got a look of displeasure from the girl on the till when I asked for the receipt and didn't leave a tip. The place was busy and they need more staff. They went setting other tables that were not being used, rather than serve us. We were not alone in what we experienced as others were unhappy with the service. Summary: service is unbelievably bad, food is overpriced and over-salted. Stay away if you don't want to be put in a bad mood.

It has the same delicious food and great service that the Ambassador was famous for! Huge menu, and everything is freshly prepared, with the best of ingredients. We had the House selection to start with, a wonderful selection of starters, spring rolls, ribs, satay chicken, prawn bread, prawns in a crispy batter, we finished the lot! Almost forgot to mention the fresh, fresh prawn crackers you munch on while waiting for your food, simply the best! For the main I had the duck with plum sauce and boiled rice. Incredible flavour, so crispy yet moist, and the sauce heavenly! One of my companions had the monkfish, I sneaked a piece, gorgeous! Smashing deserts! I often find the deserts in Chinese restaurants a bit bland, but these people have learned what Irish people like, double chocolate pudding, apple pie, Baileys cheese cake to mention a few! For those of us who miss the Ambassador, this is the Ambassador just a few miles outside of Cork City, it does not have the cloth table covers and cloth napkins, just the same great food and service.

The staff are incredibly friendly and attentive (especially the manager Ming), they always recognize you (if you frequent more than once) and their positive attitude makes the place a fun and relaxed place to dine. I LOVE spicy food, so I usually opt for the a trio of pork, chicken and shrimp with egg fried rice with spicy szceuchan sauce to boot! Delish! Also, while many other similar restaurants would avoid putting too much shrimp in such a dish (as it is relatively expensive on their part) I am always impressed with this place as they don't scrimp of the shrimp! Their main courses are fairly substantial, so if you don't have a hearty appetite, perhaps skipping the starters would be ideal! That being said, the spring rolls are a must if you feel up to the challenge! Have often frequented the place on special occasions, e.g. birthdays, and the manager always brings out a free dessert for the VIP and the staff all sing happy birthday, which is a real treat, the cherry on top so to speak! Takeaway service is also an option, and there is a seating area available for those waiting to collect their order, with newspapers and magazines to read while you wait. There is also free Wifi, which is always a bonus!

As I drove through much of Ireland even the smallest of villages had at least one Chinese restaurant. There didn't seem to be any other ethnic restaurants apart from your occasional spotting of an Indian restaurant. So being the adventurous person that I am, I decided to try Emperor Palace. First of all, the manager Ming is a real delight. He made sure we were looked after from beginning to end. I really appreciated his hospitality. The other staff members were wonderful as well. We started with what is called lettuce wraps (in the US). I don't know what's is called on the menu but it's ground beef, spices, and cups of lettuce. It was delicious. For a main course we had a couple of sauteed lobsters, served on top of lo mein noodles. We had a side of asparagus. Everything was very good. Believe it or not, they make a delicious Irish coffee. I highly recommend it. Do stop by if in the Clonmel/Cashel area. Enjoy!
