Cape Split Provincial Park Reserve - Great view of Cape Split

While we didn't have on our hiking boots on or appropriate clothing for a 3 hour hike in 0 degree weather, we still thoroughly enjoyed the view and a brief walk. The full hike is about 14 km. And as this is an official Provincial Park, there is a pretty large parking lot with ample room for whatever vehicle and toys you have in tow. Cape Split is definitely going on my Nova Scotia bucket list to hike when we come back!

Cape split is one trail that should end up on everyone's "must do" list…read more Although it seems a bit daunting at 13 kms round trip, the majority of the hike is easy, and relatively flat. With that said, you will run into several sections of the hike where you'll gain most of the trails elevation. Plan to arrive early as the parking lot fills fast despite their being room for about 50 vehicles. There are pit toilets and picnic tables at the trailhead allowing you use the washroom and fill your tummy with protein packed meals. There isn't much to see on the majority of the hike. It's not until the end, where you begin to see glimpses of the water, where the hike becomes rewarding. The very end of the trail opens up into a large grassy space with beautiful rock outcroppings and steep cliffs. Enjoy the view as you watch the birds fly by. Enjoyable for most members of the family, the 13 kms may be the determining factor for bringing the children along, and the several steep sections may deter older hikers. If you do choose to go, bring good footwear as we encountered some mud along the way. If you are looking for something adventurous to do, this would be a great item to put on your list!…read moreThis facility is located at Ski Martock in Windsor. It is easy to find with lots of signs, and a ton of free parking. Admission will give you a tutorial on how to use the course, helmet and harness. You need gloves for this course (mandatory). You can buy gardening gloves there, or bring your own of any style. The courses are broken up by difficulty, so you can pick and choose which ones you want to do. There are wires, boards, zip lines, and swings (among other things) to challenge you. Once you arrive, you are given a bracelet with a time. You must turn in your gear by that time or else you will be charged for running late. You can do as many courses as you want/can during that amount of time. I didn't like the time restriction, but I can see why they would want to do it that way - keeps things from being overrun with a bunch of people staying all day to do the courses. If you've been debating going to TreeGO in Moncton, save some fuel $ and stay in NS. I've done both…read moreTreeGO and OnTree twice. I'll stick with OnTree. Why? Let's do some comparing. Courses TreeGO has three courses - they're all fun but kind of long. OnTree has 12 courses - they are generally shorter but they also have a ranking system so you know how difficult they are. And a separate kids' area. ...And that's really it. That's the big point for OnTree. The equipment is also slightly different - a bit less convenient because it's safer. The rules and formats are pretty similar. It's mostly that there are more courses (which means shorter lines) and you can choose how difficult you want it to be. With TreeGO, you do the three courses and then ... you come back and do them again? With OnTree, you can start off easy and work your way up to Black Diamond (... not that I have). If you have a group (15 or more?) you can also get a discount which is nice. I definitely see this as a good team-building venture. But you can't really keep that large a group together. Half the people will finish a course before the last person even gets to the first obstacle. Seriously - this place is just fun.

The trailhead located off the Bedford Highway on Kent Avenue (across from the Rotunda and has parking lot has space for ~20 vehicles In order to get to the ravine trail, you will need to follow this path from the parking lot: Rockingham Loop (Blue), Governors Loop (Red) and the Ravine Trail (Orange). These trails will take you to the bottom of the ravine. It's here the trail ends, but connects with other trails. We recommend making a right at the bottom. It will allow you to follow a beautiful stream - which is perhaps the most beautiful area of the park. Allow yourself about 2 hours to complete this loop.
