The Miners Arms is an excellent restauarant with an equally excellent free house attached: An excellent free house with an equally excellent restuarant attached. That tells it like it is.
This place features in CAMRAs Good Beer and Cider Guides - with more than 5 real ales on tap and a choice of 23 ciders (oh, and about 8 excellent wines . . . . and several top notch whiskys . . . . need I say more).
The restaurant matches the booze very well, serving a solid and reliable range of English standards done well. For example, there was a Perry Fish Pie, made with pear cider (or Perry), thick cut gammon with a home-made tomato pickle and pickalilli, new potatoes and a chunky salad, there was also a lovely home-made tomato and basil soup and delightfully large and succulent - yet crisp - salmon fishcakes with a potato and parsley mash.
We were delighted and impressed with both the service and the food. read more
