We couldn't resist the same starters as before- the smooth and seriously flavoursome Chicken Liver Parfait, along with the warm cheesy feast that is the Goat's Cheese Salad. Boyfie had the classic beef Sunday lunch and I had the slow roasted lamb. The portions (especially the lamb) were significant and everything on the plate was cooked with care and competence...all this served up with smiling, cheerful, attentive, excellent staff. Bravo. Bravo. Bravissimo :) It was a shame we were in a hurry so desert will have to wait for next time, but I was treated to a desert of the soul when I was offered two beautiful, bright, dizzyingly fragrant yellow roses from the garden as a thanks for adding the business to Yelp!! Warm fuzzy feelings of extreme happy?? You bet :) Make time for The Crooked Billet, go enjoy a walk then spend some quality time eating superb food in the friendliest pub you could ever wish for. Just a tip- Sunday's are busy so it may be worth booking, although you can eat in the bar or even outside.

A wonderful English pub nestled in a beautiful location, the decor is traditional pub but with modern upgrades to the bar, but its the food that's the real winner here. Specials listed on chalkboards around the pub offer alternates to the solid menu, i really wished i could have ordered about 5 appetizers and 6 main's but alas, only one stomach! Prawn cocktail app was traditional English, small prawns in a delicious marie rose sauce with a few slices of granary bread, this was a huge serving, could almost feed two (but there was no way i was sharing!) For mains i went light, grilled salmon with baked potato with seasonal veggies, absolutely cooked to perfection grilled salmon with a decent sized potato with carrots and green beans. Other winners at our table were the Sunday roast, meat and potato pie, ribs and chicken and the southern fried chicken. Great value, clean, and a well diverse menu make The Railway one of my favorite places to visit when i'm in England.

You can always get a really good feed, with food ranging from hearty pasta dishes to Asian favourites like Thai green curry etc. Maybe none of the food is particularly groundbreaking, but it's hard to bear for value for money and me and my wife often come here when we have someone to look after the kids. There's plenty of space and the pricing is very fair for what you get. Only minor quibble might be that the music is sometimes a little on the loud side and I always feel vaguely rushed when that's the case, but like I say: a minor quibble in what is otherwise a very nice little local haunt.

In fact the standards have been so high that I chose to eat here with friends for my birthday. The meal was perfect, every course was superb. The portion sizes are great too so the big eaters among us don't go home hungry The staff are friendly and helpful, and if they are not , the manager Martin very quickly makes sure they are. his level of attention is exceptional, i am sure he has Spidey sense, he always notices first my glass is empty, hurrah.

Monkey is the dog. Lola is the other dog but she doesn't like me talking about her behind her back so to save time let's just say Monkey is the cuddly one. *looks round nervously to check I'm not being watched* East Keswick is just up Wetherby Road- and the great news is you can get the 98 and 99 buses from town to RIGHT OUTSIDE THE DAMN PUB DOOR! Can't argue with that logic. The pub has a Snug at the front where dogs of all shapes, sizes and aromas are made to feel truly welcome. There's a tv for catching up with sports, an open fire, a doggly bowl and some cracking local beers and ales on offer. I had a pint of Mary Jane from the Ilkley Brewery and it was luscious. We'd first bunged the dogs in the car and had lunch in the restaurant part of the pub- which in contrast to the homely snug is really pretty classy for a pub meal. I think an evening meal here would impress. The staff were warm and welcoming and we had 3 courses for £15.95 each, with a decent bottle of red wine this brought the bill to just over £50, which is pretty reasonable for doing it 'all' and less pricey options were available e.g 2 courses for £12.95. This is for Sunday Lunch and there are weekday menus too. To start I had chicken liver pate which was smooth with a decent portion of chutney. Ade had ham terrine which was again sizeable and competently done. Both dishes were well presented and came with Melba toast. All very very good fare. For mains I went for the lamb cutlets and Ade the beef roast. The portions were again pretty sizeable, the roasts generous, crisp yet fluffy, mixed veg was properly al dente and had nice variety.....but it was the lamb that really stood out above everything else. Four almost fist sized hunks of perfectly cooked quality meat, pink on the inside, melt in the mouth and with a subtle and creamy peppercorn sauce to lubricate the GIANT mouthfuls I was pushing into my greedy face. It was sublime and my pleasure sensors were bordering on ridiculous. All this scumptiousness was topped off by Ade's dense and super sweet Sticky Toffee Pudding and the heavenly dark matter that made up my Hot Chocolate Fudge Cake. Yes. Yes yes yes yes yes. We staggered back to the car to 'release the hounds' and then enjoyed the friendly snug for a slow drinking pint as we digested our heavy yet heavenly loads. Monkey in particular made SUCH a friend of the barman that every time he passed by and patted her head she jumped up, wrapped her front paws around his thigh and tried to walk off with him. I thoroughly recommend The Duke of Wellington if you are out that way, and as a diversion for excellent food/drinks and company even if you are not. With a bus to and from the door there's no excuse my little Leodensians, go get some fresh air and hearty fare.

Lush green fields, higgeldypiggeldy hamlets, wonky old stone walls, roads that have never seen a set square, village churchyards, chickens on verges and old folk on pushbikes with flowers in their baskets. Head off York Road onto Leeds Road towards Barwick-in-Elmet LS25 and just enjoy the drive...even better you can grab the 64A bus and not have to think about watching the road at all. After Barwick comes Aberford, a beauitiful and classic Yorkshire village set around a river- and just over that river bridge you will see the black and white frontage of the Arabian Horse Inn. Good wines, warming food, a wide choice of ales, a roaring open fire....and two jack russels who get their own chairs at the bar. It's so welcoming, everyone nods at you and says hello when you walk in, folks turn around in their chairs to ask you what you think of this and that they happen to be talking about at the time and the keeping up of the fire is a joint effort where every now and then one of you takes the initiative and wanders over to the woodstack hoping to create some sparking magic in the grate. For a longer day out Lotherton Hall is just up the road and if you require some protein the farm just over the river from this pub sells the BEST EGGS IN THE WORLD EVER. I could, quite literally, live in the snug in the Arabian Horse Inn and survive happily on chunky sandwiches, real ale, local crisps served in tubs (??) and the life affirming licks of those two fat little terriers. England at it's very best. Warm, friendly, funny and just the right amount of eccentric. Beautiful. Oh and the river is called Cock Beck *snigger snigger*
