This store gets 5/5 for inventory, cleanliness, and friendly service. The last two visits I was helped by Elias, who is just the best! I usually just go here for wild bird food but I live nearby and sometimes need hardware store- or gardening-type things. Their gardening section is like a beautiful botanic garden of potted plants. The only reason this store is not a 5/5 is because of the high prices. They used to have free popcorn but I haven't seen it the last few visits. Maybe they just moved the cart. read more

I use to really enjoy going to the store in Los Osos. A few weeks ago I learned something about the staff( not all of them) . I believe there is one female with a big ego and likes to make drama when consideration for others should come first. A couple years ago one of my people was struggling with a psychotic break while in the Los Osos store struggling to find help. Law enforcement was called and the situation was delt with peacefully. Stabilization took almost a year. Now my person is stable with little memory of this past encounter. For the past almost four months we had shopped there separate and together without any negative encounter. About three weeks ago we were picking up a small sprinkler item and while my person was browsing the store I was surrounded by at least 8-11 employees. I was told my person was not allowed there due to something from over a year ago and they needed to look out for the customer. Now I was unaware of any of what took place a year or more ago until I was surrounded by all these employees. I mentioned my person was stable now and we have been coming in . I saw my person heading towards us so I left. My person asked me what this was all about. I said they must be having a meeting. This has been very upsetting to me. The employee with the ego had called us to the stores attention. I did call the headquarters and after about three weeks I was told we are welcome anytime and will be treated as a respected customer. At this time I have no reason to enter this business . I have not nor will I share this story with my person. Having the illness is tough enough. I am hoping if my person ever does go to this store all of the employees will behave appropriately and not be so naive. We have lived here long before this store was here. I am from out of town but we came for the Starbucks in the same center and I saw the "garden center" sign and had to check it out. The Starbucks line was kinda long so wifey stayed in line and I popped over and OMG I'm so sorry I didn't have more time and more money This store seems to have most everything you're gonna need from a hardware type place, the store itself was clean and well put together. The aisles were clear and appeared well organized. The garden center though...... be-still my heart I usually dislike chain type nursery spots because they just don't seem to care about their plants. It seems that someone at this Ace does care though, and it shows in the health and variety of the plants. I only walked away with two African Violets but they had several others- minis to standards- and some without blooms for half cost- "late bloomers" they called them. Healthy but bloomless, they almost came home with me but I promised wifey I would restrain myself. They had wood mounted peperomias and hundreds of tropical indoor plants (monsteras, calatheas, elephant ears...) Lots of ferns and other more delicate indoor plants. Some I've never seen before, other more rare varieties- they had a couple raven ZZs and several begonia varieties. Plus all the pots and garden decore you could possibly want. The outdoor area was great too, lots of succs and flowers and most of it was actually healthy and not desiccated or sopping wet. Definitely a place to stop if you enjoy plant shopping. read more

Avoid this place. In spite of the sign with the handicapped symbol, which says ask any associate for assistance - good luck! I stood shouting for help for several minutes, to no avail. Employees apparently do not wish to be bothered with customer assistance. Also prices are notably higher than other sources. read more

If i could leave zero stars i would. Went in to the store and saw the clear storage bins were on sale for 13.99. I went to check out and they came up as 19.99. I told them they were marked 13.99 and they said it was labeled wrong. They had a big sign taped to the storage bins on the shelf saying 13.99. And they wouldnt honor that price. I left my whole cart there and didnt buy the few hundred dollars worth of product i was buying. They did try to offer me a 20 % discount on the bins which would have not made up the difference. So i decided to make the drive into san luis where the same bins are 8.50 at costco. read more

This Ace is much larger than the one I used to live by in Orange County. The selection of lumber here is actually pretty formidable and can save you a trip into SLO if you're willing to pay a little bit more. The more senior employees (talking about both age and those who have worked here longer) are some of the most knowledgeable people I've met in a hardware store. I've come here dozens of times for plumbing & electrical components, paint, and lots of trim boards and I'm always satisfied with the service. The ladies typically working the register are also great, having helped me with some tricky returns involving merchandise I purchased at the Morro Bay location. The only time I've been frustrated here was when I had to wait 20 mins to get paint mixed because the only person who knew how to access the computer in the paint area as taking lunch. I'm not going to give any less than 5 stars though, times are tough as far as staffing goes. I just know now to go in the morning if I want to get help with paint. read more

Amazing customer service. I went into the store looking for some plastic sheeting for a temporary repair on my truck side window until I could get it into the shop. They didn't have anything that would do the job but one of the sales reps (I think his name was Hugh, he had a British accent) told me to pull my truck around back. He came out with a roll of shrink wrap and proceeded to help me make multiple wraps around the open hole where the window used to be. When I went to pay he said there was no charge. That would never happen at Home Depot. Well done Miner's. read more

I have complained to the management several times about this and they have a deaf ear. In the los osos expanded store the nuts and bolts rack is laid out in such a way that many of the drawers are at ground level and hard to reach and unreadable from eye level. I am an older person who does not want to crawl on the floor and then with difficulty try to get up. The store personal ( who are all great ) have heard the same complaint from many people. They are frustrated as well as myself that the corporate headquarters will not listen to people who are making an effort to help. Great locally owned neighborhood hardware, but don't ask for change for the water machines outside; checkers don't have the authority to open their registers unless you purchase something. Miner's ace used to be known for their old-fashioned hardware open stock: you could buy the one item you needed, now you have to purchase multiple units in a 4 pack pack for 4x the price. Those unneeded items then sit in your garage for ten years until you need it again, if you remember you bought it and didn't throw it away when you cleaned out that garage. read more

This store has the nicest people and many of them know their home maintenance as well! Any questions and someone here will be able to answer and steer you in the right direction. Their prices are pretty reasonable and not marked up like you'd expect for a small town. The only downside here is they have a pretty limited lumberyard and nursery, but you can find 90% of stuff you need here. The employees here always manage to put a smile on my face even when my project has gotten the best of me and I've made 3+ trips here in a day. read more

Miner's in Los Osos used to be the best hardware store on the coast. However I've had the displeasure of dealing with the assistant manager,Elena. A very harsh and unpleasant person that makes me less likely to go there anymore. In addition many of the great long time people there seem depressed or have quit. Now the shopping experience there no longer gives me confidence that they can help me. Bring back the great store that was there when Kim, the owners daughter was the manager there. read more

The fact that I spent four years getting a paycheck for a company similar to ACE, I have expectations when I enter any Retail DIY Store. This store is small, considering it is sandwiched between bigger stores in the largest shopping center in a small town, but they use their lack of space to their advantage. Nothing looks cluttered, nor do they cross merchandise items that don't make sense, like their competitors seem to do. Their outdoor "nursery" isn't much bigger than a typical middle class homes' living room, but, again, despite their small space, they utilize it with bare necessities of seasonal plants. They also have a great selection of reasonably priced indoor houseplants. Oh and did I mention quality?? TOP NOTCH!! And, like typical Miners ACE Hardware, their customer service is superior to the orange and black/green bigger store competitors. read more

I stopped to buy a smoke alarm to replace an old battery-operated one that no longer functioned. I decided on a $50 First Alert smoke alarm/CO2 alarm and took it home. On removing it from the packaging it looked much like the old ones except thinner. On the back was an ACTIVATE/DEACTIVATE switch which I switched off and on expecting to see something happen indicating it was properly armed. Next to it was some writing just like all the rest of the writing on the back (no Caps, no color) which said if you deactivate it there is no way to reactivate it. $50 down the toilet! Most of us have been putting batteries in these things for years, testing them, and occasionally deactivating them when you burned something in the kitchen and the alarm is driving you crazy. So this thing is really set up to fail. And when I took it back to the store and asked two of the employees about it they knew nothing about this problem. When I finally asked the manager she said she knew but her attitude was, "Too bad." So, they beat me out of $50 but they have lost my business and my goodwill FOREVER. read more

First off, I must say the customer service here is simply spectacular! I walked in looking for a couple of parts to repair a chair in my in-laws house. I found the aisle with various screws and bolts and before I could even start a very kind employee asked if I needed help. I showed him the damaged paerts and explained what I was doing. The last three purchases I have made at Ace Hardware in Los Osos have been rung up incorrectly at the cash register, and in each case, I was charged more than the product was actually supposed to cost. I have brought the matter to the attention of one of the assistant store managers, but I doubt anything is actually going to be done to improve this issue, and I have not been offered any financial restitution. Love going to these small hardware stores compared to the larger retailers. As soon as I walked in, I was helped with a very friendly, knowledgeable salesman. The store had the item I couldn't find at Home Depot. Maybe they had it but I couldn't find the item or a salesman. Even if I was able to locate one, they always seemed they just hired a couple of days ago. At Ace, the salesman finds you. Appreciate the customer services. I think each is individually owned, so that might help, but the Los Osos Ace has a knowledgable, super friendly staff, just like the 'old days.'
