I've always wanted to find a therapist who I felt really took the time to understand me while also being thoughtful enough to highlight patterns/insights about myself that I might not be noticing. With other therapists I tried (I went to about 4-5 other people), I always left the sessions feeling really neutral. As in I didn't feel like my previous therapists took the time to understand ME and instead gave me more generic advice that could apply to anyone. Brittany is not like that at all! She remembers the little details, and points out patterns/behaviors/things that I do all the time and I find myself having so many ah-ha moments with her. I always look forward to our sessions because I can't wait to get her nuggets of wisdom and comfort in helping me through both the small struggles and the big ones. I truly am so grateful to have found Brittany. If you're usually picky about who you want to work with, then she is your person. Not that I need to get in a pissing contest with you about your stuff, but let's say at least 80th percentile bad stuff, here. Now, I knew for a few years that seeing a therapist would be a good idea. I wanted to gain some peace from all that stuff, and sort out how to better relate to other people without past demons getting in the way. I had no idea how I would get there. Or how it would be possible. Or even that it was possible. But that, folks, is why you pay for professional help. Brittany is most certainly professional. This is someone who knows what the hell she's talking about, and more importantly, what you're talking about. Often I've found she understands my motivations and reactions before I do. Crucially, Brittany is not afraid to call you out on your bullshit. Not in a confrontational or hostile way, but she will assert a different perspective when she sees one. Which is awesome, since this helps change patterns of thinking. And that's been the whole pattern of my work with her: getting help reconfiguring my brain, updating my perspectives and ensuring I see the larger context of how I act, feel and think. From the beginning, Brittany set herself apart by pointing out that she didn't want to milk my checkbook for years and years. In the space of just a few months, I've enjoyed a huge improvement in my sense of self and well-being. All without wallowing endlessly in bad memories and past traumas. Though the past provides useful context, the bulk of our work together has concerned the here-and-now. Which is great, since that's where you can actually change things. This is way beyond what my limited expectations would have allowed. So get off your ass and get to work on yourself, if that's what you need, and see if you like Brittany. You'll find her very easy to talk to and full of keen insight on the quirks of your mental state. I got to a point where I needed more, something else, and felt I needed a female therapist. Thru a few phone calls and referrals, I landed on Katie's couch and I now realize that my former therapist was only preparing me for the work I'm doing with her. She uses quite a few techniques that I can pick out but the most important ones are that she's a keen listener, very intuitive and relies a lot on the somatic approach. Meaning, when you talk to her, she will watch your body language as well as listen to your words. She also points out when my voice changes or when I seem to have enthusiasm about something that I didn't notice. She's also helped me release some old tension by getting me to draw it out - I ended up with scissors and a needle and thread creating something that I was ready to get rid of - it was amazing for both of us that day. Katie is a true gift in my life and if you're here, looking her up to see if you should go with that referral you got - call her now. If you're just cruising around looking for a therapist, you've just found an excellent one. Call her - talk to her - let her help you. :)

About two years ago, I was diagnosed with complex PTSD by multiple medical professionals, after my…read morebody slowly broke down from not treating it: I was throwing up, I couldn't stand because of back pain, I was having panic attacks, I wasn't sleeping. I was in the ER and terrified. For roughly 18 months, I saw a traditional talk therapist/psychiatrist twice a week and made good progress to a point. I would say for what she does, my old psychiatrist is the best in San Francisco. That said, I cycled through many prescription medications, to the point that I was taking 6 different prescription medications on any given day. Then I reached a point where I felt that all of my "issues" were out on the table in wild technicolor, but I just wasn't actually moving through them, or at least not very quickly. This is where Connie comes in. A woman I met at a trauma retreat at Green Gultch highly recommended EMDR so I thought I'd give it a try, even though I was a little bit wary of such a new methodology (I've been a classic therapy girl since college). My old therapist recommended Connie (thank GOD!) In my short 9-months with Connie, I've been able to do a complete 180 in my life. I have experienced nothing like my work with Connie to truly integrate and move through my conditioning, traumas, and self-limiting beliefs. And now, just 9-months after starting with Connie, I am no longer taking medications, I have left my soul-crushing job, and have achieved true peace in my life, work, and relationships. I am pursuing passion in my work and my life with unapologetic certainty. EMDR and Connie are miracle-workers. I can not recommend her more highly. I have seen Valerie for EMDR therapy with tremendous success. My first "round" was back in 2021…read more(only ended up needing 4 sessions) and when I was done I actually stopped going to my individual therapist that I had been seeing for 3 years. The amount of relief EMDR with Valerie has provided me is absolutely priceless. After having a baby in 2022, a lot of other things resurfaced and I reached back out to do another "round" of EMDR. This time with similar efficiency and outcomes. We discovered so many revelations that I have never once had come up in any individual or couples therapy I've been to over the years. Overall I had a wonderful (and life changing) experience with Valerie and highly recommend her. I am able to keep my depression in check (I can't take meds for it), I am less anxious and stressed, and all of my relationships (especially my marriage) are better off because of the work I've done with Valerie. Valerie is one of the best listeners, understanding, and so incredibly sharp and insightful. I've referred friends that have had great experiences as well. If you're on the fence, just do it, my only regret is not doing it sooner. If you think it's too pricey, just think to yourself how much you would pay to not be feeling X anymore, or how much months of talk therapy/divorce costs... I'm pretty sure the answer is MUCH more than what you would pay for these sessions!

I literally just found them on maps and decided to give them a shot. Firstly, you never talk to a robot first--you're always routed to a human. There was only one time when my prescription was delayed, and it was the pharmacy's fault. The coordinator understood right away over the phone and contacted my psychiatrist immediately, and they got it all sorted for me the same day. I felt like I was being treated like royalty. My psychiatrist Dr. Vazirian is a gem. He's a no BS, no fluff guy, but he gets things done. He listens to me, asks all the right exploratory questions, and respects my decisions without swaying me either way. I can tell he's incredibly knowledgeable and amazing at what he does. He gets my medications to me right away and ensures I feel comfortable every step of the way. Thank you doctor!!

I had not experienced EMDR before, but found it to be a very efficient modality which allowed access into (and through) outdated storied and old traumas. Prabha is a very refreshing therapist in that she's not afraid to provide her frank appraisal of your situation, based on what she's hearing from you. She provides plenty of space for you and your process, but also isn't afraid to reflect back a clear point of view. I have no patience for clinicians who are overly passive, and I've struggled with this in the past- I don't need to hear banal reflections like "that sounds hard;" I'm already aware! Prabha is NOT like this, and will tell it like it is, which I really appreciate. I definitely recommend working with her if you're curious about EMDR, and if you're looking for a true thought partner to help you work through your situation.

I had scheduled an EMDR session, for which in hindsight I see now that I should have observed her cold/short communication as a harbinger of things to come. Fast forward to the day of my appointment, and a very rare emergency caused me to be meaningfully late to our first appointment. Not a great introduction on my part, I know... so I did everything I could to show respect and apologize to Prabha. I emailed first 15 minutes before my start time with notice of my long delay and sincerest apologies, and also provided my forms electronically in advance to allow her time to review. I didn't get a reply, but instead a stern email about my absence. I kindly replied to this new message apologizing again and asking her if she's read my two messages sent before (advance notice of delay and forms). No reply from her on this either. I send one more message asking if we can at least finish the meeting slot via Zoom, which I understood her practice to also offer, so we could at least finish my on boarding this way. In the meantime, I also pre-paid at this point for my meeting, despite not yet being asked to pay. I'm going out of my way because I felt really bad about having been late. In this message, I also asked alternatively if the other time she had originally offered for the same day might still be available for us to hold as a backup. After all the above, I get a series of diatribes and lectures from her, scolding me, with lots of repetition, for my tenacity in being late, for asking for a different time, for asking for a late Zoom change, and dictating I need to pay twice for such a change even if the time were available. I was really, really turned off by this, but decided after a few days that given my invested time in this already, I'd give one more go at this after she asked if I want to schedule again. Keep in mind I fully paid for my first session already, despite being completely ignored and receiving no service, and I didn't so much as mention or complain about this. I sent her a reply after her further unkind emails that came later, and do my best to ignore how I had been treated to-date, and still tried to offer a "I truly respect your time despite what happened" message at the end, to which she latched onto again, indicating I clearly didn't respect her time, otherwise I wouldn't have asked to change the venue, I wouldn't have asked if another time was available, and so on. Bottom line: I was wrong and made a mistake. But the treatment I received was despicable and showed the true colors I believe one can expect here. She never so much as acknowledged her own neglect and oversight in missing my sent emails in advance, and in fact had the tenacity to proclaim they went to her spam folder, which was a rather disappointing lie, given they were replies to the same email thread for which she received every single message I sent, and even replied to all within 1-2 hours of receipt. For someone providing various forms of therapy, this was far from therapeutic. I suspect from the other reviews she must be good at what she does. But like the soup kitchen on Seinfeld, sometimes you have to pay a heavy price for quality. In this case, receiving poor treatment seeking treatment.
