There are always bad things and good things going on in rehab centers, especially when the men or women aren't REALLY ready to get sober. When they are court ordered, more likely than not, their first attempt is a failure, but when they come out of prison and are sober, and need guidance, places like this exist, for them, and if you're on the streets, and need to get sober, apparently, they'll help you too! I was fortunate enough to visit this weekend, and that house is beautiful, the men there are all respectful, and kind to one another and to guests. Seems like a pretty relaxed place to be. One of the visitors stench from the booze they drank the night before filled the family room to the right when you first walk in ... but, no one said a word, except me. I walked through and said "someone sure smells like stale booze and heavy perfume" to which I got the eye roll and chuckle. Calling it like it was/is. I don't think any visitor should be allowed if they appear to be or smell like they're under the influence. BUT hey, I'm just a visitor. Such a beautiful place for men to get right with themselves.

There's a lot of shady practices that happen at this program. The staff members are thieves. They are constantly loading bags and bags full of donations that are meant for the house and I mean they take everything and leave nothing for us. When we complain, the director, Shelly, just says how she doesn't charge us money or take out EBT like other programs so we should buy our own stuff. So in her eyes the donations are her and her staff members bonuses and extra perks of the job. The cook, shes been there for over 30 years and should have retired already. There's a fake menu on the wall that would be good if she followed it but she doesn't. All the meals she cooks are half ass thrown together bull**t. And if you're not getting food poisoning from the meals be prepared to gain a ton of weight because she has a very heavy hand with the oil. If she forgot to get an important ingredient for the dish, do you think she runs to the store or maybe cooks something g different, of course not, she'll improvise. So be prepared to have cheeseburgers on slices of bread, that sort of thing. If you have any kind of food allergy or if there's any kind of special diets, youre on your own. She always forgets and never takes it into accountability. Theres supposed to be 20 hours a week of groups. Theres not. We have half that. And the classes are being taught by woman who have no business teaching anyone anything. I don't think I was actually taught the tools that I need to stay sober. There's no structure whatsoever. Shelly has hired her best friend and her best friends cousin to work there so she gets away with her bullshit. Nothing is supplied for your child there. Again, the donations are picked through for the staff members and their friends and families FIRST, and Theres usually nothing left over and if there is it's usually the used stuff no one wants. Theres supposed to be surveys filled out anonymously here about what we think about the program and ways it can improve and the staff members fill them out themselves and sign our names so theyre all in can give themselves 5 stars and nothing gets changed.

I had no idea what kind of an exceptional team laid in front of me when I met them. Fast forward a year, I was at Burning Man and paid a visit to the temple, and I had a proper release. I found myself crying in public off to the side with my partner holding me, and I was just letting it all out. Tears were flooding, the people at the temple around me were so supportive, giving a gentle tap on the shoulder saying "everything is going to be all right." After that 60 minutes or so, I left the temple feeling so light and calm and happy that I got to experience my Dad for 32 years of my life. Dr. Guo taught me that trauma and normal grieving are separate things. For me up until that point in life, I thought the two went hand in hand. With her help and Spravato ketamine therapy, I was able to separate these two complex things in life. She reminded me that healing is not linear and that when grieving does come, don't be afraid of it or to be triggered, and to not run away from it. As I came back from Burning Man and attended my next appointment at NUMA Clinic, I wanted to share this experience with Dr. Guo. She has this magic ability to really make you bring your most authentic self, and she brought me back to exactly how I was feeling at the temple. As I was sharing my stories, I broke into tears, and to my surprise, Dr. Guo broke into tears as well. We spent the remainder of the session crying happy tears. Dr. Guo was moved and grateful that I was able to have this experience. Dr. Guo always ends her time saying, "If there's anything else I can do for you today." I first thanked her for crying with me, and I asked if I could give her a hug, and she agreed. She left me off to finish out my Spravato treatment, and to this day, while this memory is still fresh in my mind, I've never experienced so much love and compassion from a healthcare provider, let alone my psychiatrist. Things are looking good these days, and it's a combination of Spravato, the incredible team at NUMA psychiatry, and the work that I have put in.

But unfortunately, I experienced a very traumatizing event caused by the clinic's director, Joshua Greene. I tried multiple times to ask for a phone conversation or face to face meeting to try to reach a resolution that wouldn't leave me utterly scarred after the situation, but Mr. Greene replied only with evasive, disingenuous language clearly meant to eradicate himself of any responsibility. I was not willing to go to the Board of Psychology with this incident because that required giving up my privacy. The experience has unfortunately left me shaken - and very uncomfortable with the realization that a mental healthcare professional could have such disregard for causing anguish to someone seeking support at his clinic.

I went in with intense, debilitating pelvic pain/awful periods. I guessed it was endometriosis since all of my symptoms checked the boxes - I had an ultrasound and exam where nothing out of the ordinary was found. I was told, "you probably just have painful periods - I don't think you have endometriosis and I just recommend taking strong pain meds to help." That was it. Nothing else - no interest in solving my pain or making sure that all avenues had been explored to find the root of the problem. I asked for a referral to an Endo specialist because in my gut I felt it was Endo and wanted to be sure. My care provider at Tia was basically like, "I guess... I'll put in the referral" No follow up - no call/email after months. Come to find out, no referral was put in and I wasted months in severe pain! I got my outside regular primary care doctor involved who found a specialist, sent a referral and within 2 weeks I was in and getting surgery scheduled - and guess what, it was Endo like I suspected! I had laparoscopic surgery and had the Endo removed significantly improving my pain/quality of life - As a place that claims to put females health care first, it's wild how ignored/overlooked I was - and, how completely incorrect the "professional" I saw was. So glad I stuck with my outside primary care team and my gut instead of trusting this place. I heard nothing from these people for 3 days....... meanwhile I am counting on them. I received an email explaining to me they cannot prescribe my medication to me and to work with my new doctor. THAT IS NOT WHAT I ASKED FOR!?! I replied and basically reiterated what I was needing to do and got a prompt response from some bot lady named Corina. She assured me if I filled out the form and responded to the email thread we had she would do it right away. Well no shocker here -I AM STILL WAITING! I filled out the forms, I emailed care@asktia.com. responded to the email thread AND even left a voicemail. What the heck does a person need to do to get their medical records transferred from this god forsaken place!?!

There are enough nutritionists here that if you are not feeling the style of one, see someone else. I recommend this office highly. I too, had gastric surgery and have had to learn about eating properly and it has been an ongoing process. I am 2 years out and Elena has worked with me through some challenges.
