Hence I joined Pure Yoga in Quarry Bay when I used to work there a few years ago. Later on, I took up another job on the Kowloon side and started coming here to the Peninsula studio. I must say, this has to be my favorite studio out of the six Pure Yoga locations. I'm loving this place even more after they finished the renovations this summer... so I'm giving it another star! Ta-da! If you have been to all of the Pure Yoga studios, you would know that none of the rest could beat this one in terms of the view. Every time when I check in at the entrance, when I get a card saying Studio 6, it's like I win the lottery! Studio 6 has a view of the Victoria Harbour. Imagine you standing there doing a tree pose, you can just look across the harbour and stare right at the top of the Convention Centre trying to balance yourself... how cool is that? What else makes the Peninsula studio so impressive is that they have some great instructors. When you're done with class, you can also sit at the lobby and enjoy the harbor view while you're waiting for a friend! If that's still not enough to persuade you to come here, they even have phone chargers. Leave your phones there to charge while you're in class... and may I say, PLEASE do not bring your phones to class as it is very disturbing. Inhale... exhale... leave your phones behind and relax, Hong Kongers!

After checking with the big yoga studios and decided not to go with them because of their steep charges for walk-in classes (more than London and New York!). I found Yoga Bam Bam. It seems like a good alternative. No fussy contract and everything seems to look quite direct and simple. However, as I read on their website about their freelance teachers, who are doctors, lawyers, CEOs...etc, it makes me feel a little reluctant. I don't think the teachers other jobs have anything to do with my yoga practice or even their own. It doesn't mean they're better teachers. Anyway, I will write a update review if I decide to try Yoga Bam Bam.

Moving to Hong Kong, it was quite easy for me to fall in love with Pure. Since it is everywhere and they have excellent teachers, (especially at the Centrium location where I practise.) Therefore it wasn't a hard decision for me to make, to join Pure yoga. As with anything you do and with my complacent personality, yoga can get a little boring after awhile. It's the same poses, the same class etc. So i began to venture out towards other yoga related recreational sports. My friend who is a certified yoga instructor teaches Aerial yoga in Hong Kong. She recently told me to come check out a yoga class held at Yoga Bam Bam. This is when I learned that Yoga Bam Bam is located in Sheung Wan with a small but open feel to practise yoga. If you are tired of practising inside a skyscraper confined within the walls that are mirrors, try Yoga Bam Bam. They are a new studio that is half outdoors and half indoors. It's quite a different experience to practise yoga outside. I understand why people do it at the beach and parks. What's more interesting is that I learned, this space is used for yoga instructors to rent out for the duration of their class. I think it's an excellent and flexible idea. Instead of the same instructors all the time, whoever wants to teach, whoever is in town can just rent the space out and teach whatever kind of yoga they wish. This definitely spices things up a bit!

That's Impakt. Impakt runs a number of different boxing and martial arts classes, including Muay Thai kickboxing, Western boxing, Brazilian jujitsu, as well as a number of other fitness classes like boot camp and core strength training. The problem with these sort of boxing gyms, is that they can suffer from a reputation of having a lot of meat-headed lads who are into fighting, and could perhaps rather intimidating for those of us who are beginners, looking for fitness and not fighting, and women. Fortunately, Impakt, despite the front page photo on the website which is only guys with their shirts off, is not like this. The students training are very diverse, they have no pretensions about trying to beat other students down, and surprisingly many of them are women. The trainers are very skilled, and push hard, but are also sympathetic to those of us who are maybe less fit, or need a helping hand to learn some of the techniques. Special mention must be made of Phet and Nadir, who are both excellent trainers, and friendly and welcoming to beginners. The gym itself has a boxing ring in the centre, a, larger training area where most of the classes take place to the right, and a smaller gym area with weights and machines to the left. The changing facilities are unfortunately a little small and cramp, so you may wish to train and then go home to get changed. The weights room areas don't have a great deal of machines, but there are never that many people, so you should get to go on them without queuing. With a very convenient central location, and friendly students and staff, it is a great place to start some boxing training in a un-intimidating environment. So give it a go you may find that fighting is good fun.

Dear PURE Hong Kong team, ATTN: Ms Theresa Shan, Managing…read moreDirector PURE Singapore I am traumatized and disappointed by my experience at PURE Singapore clubs and would like to inquire whether the same hygiene standards are being applied to at PURE Hong Kong as well. During my visit to the gym today, I was appalled when I caught a whiff of what smelled like a foul, sour stench of dried sweat emanating from the "clean" set of workout attire I had picked up at the changing room. I immediately discarded it into the dirty laundry bin to spare another member from this uncomfortable experience. Unfortunately, the next set of attire I picked had the same rancid stench. After a similar issue with the third set, I gave up as I did not want to be wasting any more resources and begrudging wore the third set of attire. No amount of deodorant spray could mask that putrid sweat odor that oozed from the attire that was hugging my body. What a distressing experience. Since PURE Singapore's decision to move laundry services in-house (was this decision co-approved by PURE Hong Kong?), I had repeatedly encountered instances of malodorous workout attire. Even though it mars my workout experience, I have previously tolerated this as I respected Managing Director PURE Singapore's business decision. However, today's experience has crossed the line, as the reeking stench of the attires on display today was reminiscent of the combined stale sweat of a thousand laborers. This is highly concerning. I would like to draw the attention of PURE Hong Kong and Managing Director PURE Singapore that there are health risks associated with this issue. Sweat can carry fungi (such as ringworm), bacteria (such as impetigo) and viruses (such as herpes), all of which can be transmitted through contaminated clothing. If the attire is not properly cleaned, this poses a significant health risk to the members of PURE Singapore. Given that PURE Group is a lifestyle brand with a purpose to inspire and help people to lead healthier, happier lives, it seems contradictory to allow members to wear contaminated clothing, potentially exposing them to harmful infections. Additionally, I find it puzzling that PURE Singapore invests in monthly deep cleaning of the gym facilities yet fails to ensure the cleanliness of the most basic equipment: the workout attire. It is also disheartening to see PURE Group, as a premium lifestyle brand, make members who pay a premium to enjoy a world-class facility and experience, put on rancid attire that stinks of other members' stale sweat. This is literally a slap across your members' face. Is this decision some sort of sadistic joke? Again, while I recognize the importance of cost-saving measures, it should not come at the expense of PURE members' health and overall experience. At this point I respectfully request that PURE Singapore to take one of the following actions: 1. Reverse this terrible decision to do laundry in-house and outsource to a professional, reliable laundry service provider that can ensure proper cleaning and hygiene of the workout attire 2. If outsourcing is not an option, I kindly ask that Managing Director PURE Singapore Ms Theresa Shan personally address this issue with a public clarification, perhaps, using a social media video; taking a whiff of the current workout attire and provide a clear POV demonstration of how she enforces strict hygiene standards in in-house in personally washing the attire, performing a smell test in the end to demonstrate that she approves the current hygiene standard. I expect a resolution to this matter (with one of the above two actions) within the next 2 weeks. Should this be not addressed as per my kind request, the matter will be further escalated. I would consider on the side of high end when it comes to gyms. You can expect to pay somewhere in the neighborhood of 700 hkd per month or more depending on the package you choose. This particular gym is multi floor facility and is really large. It has all the types of equipment that I typically use like the treadmill, free weights and Olympic lifting weights. So it meets my needs in terms of training. This facility also has gymnastics equipment that you can use as well and I hope to incorporate into my routine in the future. This gym is located in an office building so the peak times will be during lunch and after 5 pm. I'm not someone who takes a lot of classes except for an occasional yoga class. If you are someone who prefers classes there are plenty of those as well. The spin classes sell to be quite popular.

The trainers are highly motivated professionals who will keep you on task and make you passionate about improving your health and lifestyle choices. Not only will they structure, develop, and modify (as appropriate) a workout routine that is adapted to your specific bodily needs and fitness level; they also emphasize nutrition and will work with you on restructuring that part of your life to meet your overall fitness goals. I personally work with Annie Hon, who is fantastic. She will push you hard, but at the same time, she is gifted at identifying where your limits are and won't push you so far that you get frustrated and give up on what you came there for in the first place. As far as the facility goes, it's extensive (2 floors), clean, and spacious for you to work out comfortably without feeling like you're training on top of the other clients who are working out at the same time you are. The only downside is that you cannot use the equipment at their facility when you're not in a training session. (At the same time, this restriction is also a good thing, because it keeps their facility not-so-crowded -- so that you can maximize your use of all the equipment during your training sessions there.) So, to keep up with the training program developed for you by R.A.W.'s trainers, you'll need a separate gym membership, or access to a gym elsewhere. To that end, it can get a little pricey. But in my view, your health, longevity, and wellbeing is worth it.

I tried three digits number studios all over the world. Upon returning to Hong Kong, I miss a hidden studio focus on advanced level classes and emphasis Kirtan on every Friday nights. And full of celebrity teachers' workshop on weekends. Pure's class range and levels still remain most complicated local wise. It is original Bikram style, later developed into a all-in fitness group. They cover hatha, vinysa, ashtanga, power, universal, yoga therapy...to my loving Jivamukti, Forrest style. It is impressive by just looking at their weekly schedule. The Langham studio offers quite a few advanced courses with renowned instructors. Martina wakes you up in the morning 90 minutes universal session, Samret handles all the comprehensive positions. They provide one time free trial. And nobody mentioned, but their well-facilitated shower and changing room plays like a second home for all the ladies.

There's classes in all different levels and its not intimidating at all to those just beginning. The classes are all on a schedule that is available online through their website. I love how convenient it is to make a booking for a class in all locations. One thing I should mention is that if you're looking to go to one of the more popular classes, like Hot Flow...make sure you book two days before. That is the earliest time allowed to make a booking for any class. The classes will fill up quick, so get on it and make sure you secure a spot either online or over the phone by calling their studio. PURE Yoga at Langham is a very large space. There are a number of studios located one level below the reception and locker rooms. The lighting here is very warm and the relaxing. I instantly get a bit calmer once the elevator doors open to their smiling staff greeting you. Unlike PURE Fitness, workout gear is not provided to you. Be sure to bring your own workout clothes. If you are also a member of PURE Fitness, you can just go one level down on the elevator and borrow from them which is very convenient. I do notice that the conditions of the showers are not as great as it is in other locations. There are times where some stalls are out of order...and other times, I just see some build up that needed to be cleaned. The instructors here are fantastic!!! I know most the yoga instructors for PURE go around the different locations, so this says a lot about the company as a whole. Very skilled and approachable instructors that enhance your yoga experience with them. thumbs up!

update: still awesome…read more On this last quick trip to HK, I was able to get in a couple UrsusFit classes and one boxing class. All earlier points stand: this is an unusually nice gym with excellent facilities; which, in my experience, consistently achieves that hard-to-nail balance of being a place where people can get pretty rugged and work pretty hard while still also being a nice, non-j3rky place. It feels friendly and welcoming and inclusive. I always look forward to dropping in on my stops to HK; thanks, Ursus, for keeping it 100.
