We found the shelter to be very clean for the animals. The cats were in nice big cages with hammocks for them and they were well fed and watered and there was no smell from the cats as their cages were very clean. The dog kennels were also very clean and so were the animals. We both felt that the reception area could be kept neater, but we found the small staff there very friendly and helpful. I would not hesitate adopting from or relocating to this shelter.

I volunteer at the Spartanburg Humane Society and have learned some about them whenever I'm able to…read morego and spend a few hours over there. They really do try to do their best to make their dogs adoptable. Upon intake, they see a vet, get their shots, get spayed/ neutered, get washed etc. They have even started doing some training with the dogs so they learn basic commands. Some dogs will have stars on their kennel to indicate what level of training they have achieved. They also do some muzzle training and socialization with dogs that were not socialized as puppies. The first 6 months of a dogs life are very important for this so if that window is missed, additional training is necessary. All dogs are walked at least three times a day and usually extra by volunteers. They also go outside for playgroups twice per day. If you get an opportunity, I would go watch a playgroup and actually get to know the dogs. I saw another review that stated that all the dogs were vicious and lunging at her children as they walked past. This is simply not the case. Many of the dogs are just very excited to see humans walking by their kennel. Get them outside and they'll be as sweet, and lovey as can be. Adoption fees are ridiculously cheap here and they include shots etc. All you have to do is make sure that you buy heartworm protection upon adopting. It's totally irresponsible to NOT buy heartworm protection so it just makes sense. They post their adoptable dogs on petango and on their website. I also try to post any dogs I play with to my instagram page to make sure that the word gets out about them.

They were able to give us many options from a local kill shelter (without us feeling pressured- really!) and then followed through with all the information we could ask for about the dogs we were interested in. Jillian was constantly available and willing to work with us when it came to transportation for our new pup. We received constant updates with pictures from both Jillian and Chad, which made us feel included through the entire adoption process; from them pulling him out from the kill shelter and then rehabilitating him until we were able to adopt. We got constant training updates so we felt ready and prepared for him when we brought him home. He is already settling in nicely, alive and happy! Thank you so much!!

She grew like wildfire and now weighs 9.8 lbs. and the vet says she is still growing!! She was very hard to house break or to train her to do anything. She destroyed the carpets in our home, not just by peeing or pooping but by chewing them. She also has chewed corners off dressers, doors, and cabinets and still at 1 year old scratches, like a cat on evrything. (and I have scars on my legs to prove it) We even paid $1600 extra for a 2-wk. Board and Train where she spent 2 weeks in the home of one of CD's expert trainers. When we picked her up I expected her to have learned things like" stay, crate, no, down", etc. and maybe even been closer to being potty trained! All she learned was sit., & down, which she quickly forgot how to do as soon as we brought her home from the trainers. One other thing, we were under the impression we would meet the breeder. I'm not sure. but we picked her up at someone's house because she was being "fostered there until we could pick her up". DO YOU'RE RESEARCH WHEREVER YOU PURCHASE A PUPPY. She is 14 months old now and we do love her as one of the family but she is still a handful and a slow learner.

Even if her adopted pet did get kennel cough prior to being adopted that certainly doesn't warrant a negative review. Animals get colds and viruses just like people do and it can't always be avoided especially when they are taking in strays and/or uncared for pets. When you adopt an animal you have a responsibility to care for your new pet and should expect to pay for what ever medical ailment and treatment he/she should need immediately following the adoption process. If you can't afford medical care for unexpected medical issues then you shouldn't be adopting a pet. Thank you Richardson Rescue for protecting animals and saving their lives!!! The owner, Janet, said all emails had been sent out. She said to apply for a second time in case there was some glitch or typo. I applied for a second time on 9/12 around 12pm. Given it was a weekend, she said they would process it Monday or Tuesday. Tuesday, 9/15, I again have zero emails. I messaged her on facebook asking what the status was on my second application, and she said that all emails had been sent out. Again, I had zero emails (including in the spam folder) from them. She apologized over messenger and told me to call the next day between 10 and 3:30 and tell whoever answers the phone that Janet said to apply over the phone. Wednesday, 9/16, I called around 12:40 to no answer and left a voicemail. I didn't receive a single call back, so Thursday, 9/17, I called again around 1:30, to no answer. As of 9/19, he's now been taken off the website, I assume adopted. How can you run a rescue, begging for donations and adopters, yet don't answer people who are genuinely interested. What a scam.

I participated in their amazing Doggy Day Out program requesting the dog they thought would need it most. I "borrowed" one of the adult dogs, his name was Goblin, for the day. They had everything prepared for me when I got there:: he had a special "Adopt Me" vest on, a good leash, a water bowl, poop bags, a couple of toys to bring with us and even a bag with special treats for him. I took him to Paris Mountain and we hiked for hours. I fell in love with that boy! He was so pooped when we returned but in a good way. I shared numerous photos I took of him on our hike, hoping to help with his adoption. Good pics really help. He was adopted shortly thereafter, and it made my heart happy. If everyone would spay/neuter/chip their animals, we wouldn't need animal shelters in the first place. Great program!

I had a very heartbreaking experience here... I was traveling through Greenville on a cross country…read moreroadtrip when I stumbled upon a beautiful dog running around on a very busy street in a commercial area. The dog was clearly a stray, it was dirty, malnourished, and was full of ticks. I managed to get the dog into my car and drove to Greenville County Animal Care for help. I was very rudely rejected by the staff there. They claimed they can't help me because they're full and can't take in any more dogs. I understand that but when I asked for them to advise me on what to do next they said they don't know and that I should probably just go knocking on doors to see if anyone has lost their dog... ARE YOU SERIOUS??? I tried to explain that I'm not from around here and was simply just passing through but the workers were very passive aggressive and rude. They offered no help and seemed very indifferent about the fate of the dog I found. I went back in my car and broke down because of how awful I felt after this interaction. It's concerning how people working at an "animal care" shelter and be heartless... I understand they are probably very full and busy but all I wanted was to be pointed in the right direction. I went out of my way to rescue an animal in need and just wanted some help. I'm VERY saddened about this situation.

I went in at 8a-11a under the pretense that I would be working and completing tasks the staff would normally do for compensation. When I got to the facility, the staff told me I would not be doing any work and would overall be observing. Even still, I tried to make myself useful and do things in order to feel like my time was well-spent. Despite me performing duties the staff would certainly do (cleaning the lobby, handling cats and dogs, and ushering animals to kennels and holders), I was denied the position, and the payment I should have received from the work I did. I was told that I hadn't done "any of the work they do" and that I "don't work for the county". All in all, I was lied to and my time was wasted during this "working interview". The staff was very unprofessional, and I would not recommend this job to anyone if you value honesty, integrity, and a workplace suitable for animal lovers. I cannot speak for the adoption side of things, however.

She wasn't pushy like other places we had visited. Meagan really has a genuine love for her pups. We went in looking for a Poodle and ended up with a Maltipoo. My girls and especially my wife were in love at first sight. There was just a peace in knowing she was the one for us. After being in our family for several days now, that peace has been confirmed even more. Cali or Callie (we haven't decided on the spelling yet) is her name since we're from there.
