If you read my other reviews...you'll understand why at 36, I'm seeing a Cardiologist regularly. Seriously though, I initially saw Dr. Alvis because I was experiencing debilitating migraines under duress (weight lifting, etc) and because I was trying to prevent a future heart condition (which runs in my family). It's difficult to describe the level of service you receive from Dr. Alvis, because I never have experienced anyone like him in the medical profession. Dr. Alvis is thorough, kind, and extremely intelligent. He actually takes time to talk to you and acts more as a coach than a "symptom reliever." Dr. Alvis has written and contributed to several Wikipedia entries on his profession and is very active in keeping up to date with the latest forms of relevant therapy. The staff at Dr. Alvis' office is also second to none...Andy and Bev are some of the best folks on the planet...I actually ENJOY visiting the Dr. so I can catch up with them. If you have the need to see a Cardiologist, or are interested in preventative medicine...do whatever it takes to see Dr. Alvis. He is indeed the best in his field. read more

If you want medical help, don't waste your time here. If you want a pre-med lecture, he's your guy. First red flag - he was accepting new patients, and he could see me early the next morning. Second red flag - the paperwork I was to complete ahead of my visit was outrageously lengthy and asked the same questions in several different places - and included a sheet with advice to keep it in your wallet that included your medical history and social security number. WOW. Not advisable in today's world! Third red flag - the office was dirty, and the equipment looked like it was from the 1970's. After what seemed like an eternity listening to a lecture and being quizzed about my knowledge of how the body works, I finally asked if there was a medical exam in my future. He said it was important for him to understand how much I know about my condition before he proceeded. He railed against emergency rooms, the government and standard treatments for blood pressure, etc. His message - it can be controlled with your brain. I finally got up and left. If you need medical help do not waste your time here. Which doctor tells you to go home diagnose the issue take notes and discuss symptoms than. Also if it takes a doctor 3 hours just to do physical, that should tell you a lot about his business. DO NOT RECOMEND read more

Dr. Alvis is unlike any other doctor. His practice is unorthodox in that he truly has your best interest at heart. He spends lots of time with you. Most of that time is spent guiding you to a better understanding of some rather complex processes happening in your body and giving you practical solutions to better your health. He professes that each of us is our primary care physician and therefore it is up to us to make the decisions that will impact our health. He has developed an innovative approach to the 'medical record'... it is a physical one page document that you carry with you on your person. You will not be let down if you are looking for a doctor who really cares about you and knows what you should do to get better. read more

I had terribly high and dangerous high blood pressure several years ago and had a heart attack that required stents. Dr Milton Alvis did the stent procedure and then taught me to cut down on the bad sugar and heavy carb diet that I loved to eat. He took a lot of time to go thru my blood lab tests & heart scans to impress upon me the need to change my diet or I would be back again with major heart surgery, stroke or worse. After all his coaching & patience I finally got my blood pressure under control & feel and look better. I can't recommend Dr. Alvis highly enough- he is a very good doctor who really cares and takes the time to educate his patients. read more

The other four star ratings echo my experience with Dr Alvis. Of course, it is not possible to accurately state what my health would be like had not I seen Dr Alvis. My gut feel is that I would be close to having a stint procedure, or worse. I am confident that Dr Alvis has helped me understand my health, change my attitude toward a host of medical issues, provided me with an understanding of how to take better care of myself, and PREVENTED ME FROM FUTURE, IF NOT PRESENT, HEART ISSUES. A recent Echo Cardiogram confirmed my health so, who knows? But, now I don't lie awake at night and wonder when it will be my turn to take a trip to the ER and have a stint or by pass. I'm not going to have to go down that road, thanks to Dr Alvis. read more

If there was a negative number to review this Quackologist, mine would be a negative 10. At my first visit, he kept me 4 hours to teach me about cholesterol and the heart. (Later to find out that he charges by the hour). I was in congestive heart failure. His medical assistant does an EKG on me. Dr. Alvis informs me that I've had a heart attack sometime in the past. So I asked him if he was going to do an echocardiogram on me, and he said no, not now, you don't need one. He draws blood for a full blood workup. He tells me to come back in a week to go over results. As I was leaving his exam room, he tells me that he would appreciate any donation of money to help him pay his bills, since he had just bought this building where his office now resides. He thens proceeds to try to persuade me to self pay rather than file through my insurance. IS THIS MAN FOR REAL? I go back in a week to get my blood work results. He prescribes several medicines for me to take. I continue to tell him that I'm having shortness of breath and couldn't breathe well. He tries to keep me in his office for two or more hours to "teach" me about the heart and how I shouldn't trust hospitals, insurance companies, and the government. He sent me lengthy emails with links to watch a bunch of crap on you tube about how our government and the health care systems are killing us. Two months later, I end up in a hospital emergency room in critical congestive heart failure which put me in ICU for over 20 days. My vitals were so critical, a heart catharization was done. I had severe aortic stenosis with mitral valve prolapse. I had to have open heart surgery to replace my aortic valve and repair my mitral valve. The surgeon and cardiologist told my husband that if I didn't get this fixed, I had less than 6 months to live. So, please don't use this cardiologist. He is not mentally stable in my opinion. I am astonished that he is still allowed to practice as a cardiologist. No patients are ever in his waiting room, and his office is deplorable. read more
