The café has good street parking, which was such a relief. Bites - My husband got a bagel with eggs, and I chose a bagel with herb cream cheese. The bagels were cheap, but when I saw the size, I understood why. A bite in, I could tell they weren't the freshest. They weren't stale, just a bit drier than usual. I did, however, really like the herb cream cheese. I also ordered a mocha, which was pretty mediocre. Service - The staff was polite, though the food took a little longer than expected. I noticed some coughing while we were there, and with flu season going around, it did make me slightly concerned.

For years, my go-to drink at any coffee bar is a hot, dirty Chai Latte with one or two shots of expresso. Today, I ordered a medium and when I received the Chai and took the first sip, I got a cloying sweetness that was not pleasant to me. I took it back up to the barista and told her it was too sweet and that I must have gotten someone else's drink, but she informed me that they had changed their formula recently and that I had received my chai latte. I have been ordering hot, dirty Chai Lattes for years and I have never had one so off-puttingly sweet. Vertical has a lot of nice drinks and many special and if I ever want to try one I will be back...however, I will start going to one of the other great coffee houses in Cookeville for my favorite chai...what a shame.
