Waltman Park - Waltman Park -- pond at the side of Maurice River

This is a very pretty park in Millville along the Maurice River. There are two playgrounds, one at…read moreeither entrance. Note that you cannot drive all the way through from one entrance to another, but each has its own parking lot. The park is not huge, like for hiking or biking, but it does allow for a short walk across the pond bridge, and across the river bridge to the park across the river (Captain Joseph Buck Park), where there is a paved trail along the river. The playground at the City Park Drive entrance is older and while it still works, there is only one small climbing structure and the swings, etc. are not as exciting as the other area at the Brandriff entrance. A Mister Softee ice cream truck visited at the Brandriff entrance while we were there, and a number of local kids were there playing. They were super friendly and sweet. Usually I love to rate any greenspace high stars, but my negatives here are really upsetting, and can't go ignored. There were dangerous people behaving oddly just across the river at the foot of the bridge. It appeared illegal deals or illegal substance use was going down right over the bridge. Needless to say, this is absolutely unacceptable around children, and the adults on the playground were wary and nervous as well. Who knows how dangerous that activity can get, but as soon as we saw why other parents were nervous, we immediately left. Absolutely disgusting in broad daylight, with children around, and where are the cops? On the way out, there was broken glass everywhere from someone breaking all the (formerly nice) lampposts, and it looked like they'd been shot at or punctured with a rock, so as to darken the area for nefarious night activity. Such a shame. They've put a lot of money and planning into these dual parks, and the locals really need it. Three stars for the civic efforts, and for those sweet kids and their terrified mothers, who are doing their best keeping safe there to play.

It's a large wooden structure playground with little forts, slides and all manner of fun stuff for kids of all ages to discover. It's even more fun than it looks in the photos I posted (methinks at least). The structure is really large & adults can can follow their kids most places on it if so desired. There are just a few spots where a young child could really take a tumble to the ground below, but that's the hazards of childhood. I kept a sharp eye on kid #1 until pretty recently. He loves this playground the best out of our small rotation though. There are also swings, a balance beam thing, slides and a sandbox. Picnic tables are around for parents & there's a small pavilion area I've seen co-opted for birthday parties. I don't think they do reservations like at Chestnut Branch park in Mantua. There's a much larger pavilion there, but the playground itself is not nearly as nice. The location is off of Crown Point Road past the library & police station if coming from Delaware St. Take the first right AFTER the light at police. There is a small sign. Follow the winding road back to the Little League field. Ample parking and a bathroom that is usually open are available. Sometimes the baseball snack bar will be open during season. We even caught a game once on a whim. Well, part of an inning! 3 year olds are notoriously fickle.

We did not call it by name, we called it Castle park, by the library, near the school. Oh, thank goodness, for the love of God!, that library turned out to be one of the best parts. The children loved the children's book section, no kidding? right, lol. Yes, highly recommended of chaperone experience for the little ones, hey, enjoying the park for them, eh, okay it is enjoyable for adults, okay, fine! You got me, lol. The interaction of genuine heart of children sometimes results in adults caring to share the basic human need of thankful communication. One "face to face" treasure of social experience. Justly peaceful, and it is patrolled not only by parents, there are venues of the township, like the library, and the police are not long, had that been necessary. Never had I've seen the police needed to be notified to go there. Thank you Egg Harbor Twp, I used to live there. Good today of days. Of course, Creator given rights & dignity only God provides, ie, the three charters of freedom, The Declaration of Independence, The Preamble and The Ten Bill of Right, in the years of our Lord, 1776-1991. Just Peace from God.

I get to visit this very fine town more than a few times a year since my brother and his family moved here in mid 2000s. And this park is definitely a highlight for his kids to be out and about and do things that is so quintessential summer! Here are some of the key highlights: - Big kid's playground, fully mulched, with all the swings and the castle of slides. The grounds clearly are well taken care of and everything looks so pretty - There are big soccer fields right behind the kids' playground. I almost mistook it for a mini golf course; the field was so green and well maintained and I believe there are more than 3 of them; and one is even lighted for night matches. - There is an amphitheater bang in the middle of the 35 acres expanse where they have bands come in and play during the summer and there are scheduled movie screenings as well. - 4 Tennis courts. So neat and clean. i was really impressed to see the quality of the nets and the hard court coats. Finally, the access roads - in and out of the park, connecting the main streets are so well maintained, with enough parking for families to come in and enjoy great times. Keep up the good work!! - Amazingly well kept baseball / softball field.

There is nothing to do here for a beginner except maybe play with this tiny pyramid and try to learn how to skate transition, The shallow concrete is pretty Jenky it's far jankier than the deep end and the jankyness slows you down a lot, so keep that in mind. The roll in just throws you into the wall unless you go in sideways like a surfer or something and it's pretty sketch doing that, I'd say it's great for round wall and vert riders the vert side is just barely 8' so it's a great entry point for the vert curious to get your feet wet, bring softer wheels as the rough pavement isn't letting you slide out super easy which is a plus for some and a minus for others.

I've stayed in my share of hotel suites and villas (thanks to my amazing work situation), but I'm also a fan of getting back to nature (veteran Burning Man survivor) and when I lived in the Sierra Nevada, off grid and dispersed camping was a joy. Now that I'm older and back in Jersey, we mix the best of both worlds by staying in more rustic accommodations in NJ, DE and PA state parks with friends. We want to rough it, but we also need a toilet when you're a middle aged lady of a certain age and also a bed off the floor - no more sleeping on the dirt for me these days. Parvin State Park was a pleasant surprise. It's on the edge of the Pine Barrens, and the small little lake in front of the cabins host a pair of white swans and lots of honking geese and ducks. We stayed in Cabin 12, which was very basic and in winter, the only heat source was an old-fashioned cast iron wood stove. We came prepared with tons of firewood and we loved it! Nothing like a roaring fire, a good book and Van Morrison growling a love song in the background. You can even get cell service! During winter, no running water and a porta potty was outside. The cabin had a working stove and a full sized fridge. $115 for 2 nights in regular cabin ($60 per night) / $80 per night for #6 or 16 Check in at 3 PM, out by noon Walmart is 10 minutes away in case you forget something important (ahem) Cheap firewood (but burns fast) at Tractor Supply Living room has 4 outlets Each bunk room has an outlet, wall hooks and light (though not very bright) Walls are not completely closed off in bunk rooms if privacy is a concern Map showing which cabins have wood stoves or fireplace inserts. https://www.nj.gov/dep/parksandforests/maps/parvin-cabinmap.pdf Cabins #6 and #16 are ADA, two bedrooms with bunk beds and a single bed each ($80 per night) Much more open living room During high season, these can only rent for a week at a time, Monday to Monday PRO TIPS: · Bring slip on shoes to go in and out to outdoor porta potty if winter - it was exactly 25 steps from the door to the porta potty (I counted) · Bring room heater if it's winter for added warmth · Bring small tub and your own water for washing dishes / non-potable water if it's winter since the kitchen sink is shut off · Bring fan if it's hot · Bring extra lamps because rooms are dark · If you are not bringing a camp chair, bring chair pads for hard wooden chairs provided.
