In general it's a bit older and some of the new theatre gloss has worth off, but I like this place a lot and I'll definitely be back. I was extremely impressed with my visit here (even without a tour) as the displays had plenty of educational text and context which helped me understand what life was like on the ship. At 115m long, with several levels to the ship -- be prepared to spend a few hours exploring all the different parts of the ship and wear comfortable shoes to make it easier to navigate around the stairs and bridges. Dress light as most of the ship is not air conditioned, but this typically isn't a problem with a light wind blowing throughout the ship. Highly recommended if you enjoy history and especially if you have not been on a Navy boat before. Well worth the time if you're visiting the Hamilton area.

It reads, "This gate lodge was built for the Hon. Isaac Buchanan (1810-1883) who was born in Glasgow. He emigrated to Toronto in 1830, became a successful wholesale merchant, represented Toronto in the first Legislative Assembly of the Province of Canada, 1841-44, and moved to Hamilton about 1850. He bought property here, named it the Claremont Estate in 1852, and in 1855 built the lodge and the main house, now located at 88 Fennell West. Buchanan subdivided the estate and renamed the main house "Auchmar" after the Buchanan estate on Loch Lomond Scotland. He became Member for Hamilton 1857-67 and served as President of the Executive Council in the 1864 Tache-Macdonald administration. He died in Hamilton in 1883." The marker was erected by the Archaeological and Historic Sites Board, the Department of Public Records and Archives of Ontario. It does not have a number or other date. This is just 5 mins walk from the village square as well as there so many lovely places to eat very very close. Parking situation - Parking is usually available at the Elizabeth parking lot opposite to the village square.

It looks impressive even from afar while if you driving along Lakeshore. A great walk on a nice sunny day as the pier extends 137 meters over Lake Ontario. There is also a platform where you can walk up and have 360 view of the area. I might not want to walk all the way out during winter and the pier would not have any maintenance either. The total cost of the Brant Street Pier construction is $14.4 million!! through funding partnerships with the Canada-Ontario Infrastructure Program, Halton Region, the City of Burlington and Burlington Hydro. I will be back on a sunny day enjoying the view... Maybe I can even smell the breeze of the Ocean (Lake Ontario)?

It is located in the old Waterdown, Ontario that is now merged into City of Hamilton. It is a curtain fall that is 10m high and 5m wide. It is beautiful, powerful and breathtaking. To get to the Great Falls, go south on Mills Street North, go under a railway bridge, park at the Smokey Hollow Park on the right. You have arrived at the entrance of a hiking trail that leads to the Great Falls.

It's not too bad for vehicle with at least 3 people. There's lots of parking nearby. Trails by Webster's Falls are pretty well maintained and quiet. It is pretty short so it's should good for anyone who doesn't like long hikes. Also, there are picnic benches if you are planning to bring food. I feel like Webster's is somewhere you go in the spring or autumn. You would see the leaves being colors and more water flowing over the Falls. I have seen people slowly climbing down the cliffside to get to the base side. I would suggest not doing so because rocks are slippery and the cliffside is slippery.

This review is specifically for Webster's Falls in autumn! First off, you actually have to make a…read morereservation to hike here. I did this through the Hamilton Conservation Authority website. There are time slots for each day of the week and you pay a fee for each person and vehicle, as well as a convenience charge. It's not the most accessible for all people but they do this to keep the numbers of hikers manageable. Note that they will actually check that you're on the reservation list. When we got there and parked, there was a security guard with a printed out copy of the guestlist. Later on when we were entering the main part of the hike, there was a little kiosk where we were asked for our reservation again. I'd recommend printing out your reservation and bringing it with you in case. The hike is super easy. A good portion of it is paved and there was almost always a stair option if you didn't want to chance a hill with roots. There are a few look out points for Webster's Falls. At this time of year, the falls are a lot smaller than some of the pictures you might see online due to the water levels. It's still a really pretty sight though if you go when the leaves are changing colours.

Carrying York Blvd over the Desjardins Canal, there has been a bridge here going back to the…read more1850's. It was originally a toll roadway but it was destroyed in 1869 by a wind storm. In 1896, a properly constructed high level bridge was built over the Desjardins Canal. The steel arch which was the substructure of the bridge spanned over 180 feet however it was not able to keep up with the growth of traffic and the additional weight as the automobile became the chief mode of travel. There are actually MULTIPLE bridges here - a low level one and a high level one and a railroad - there is a lot of design to take into account. The new High Level Bridge began construction in 1931 as a steel arch bridge and it was formally dedicated on June 17, 1932. There are four lanes of traffic, a bicycle lane and a pedestrian sidewalk (that has streetlights limiting the width) with a very low curb. It's interesting to note the four 40-foot pylons that are faced in Queenston limestone. They are empty as there was quite a lot of controversy over who was selected to be representatives - members of Parliament, the lieutenant governor and the minister of defense during World War I. The debate was never resolved and the niches remain empty. In 1988 after repairs and reconstruction, the High Level Bridge was rededicated and renamed to the Thomas B. McQuesten High Level Bridge.
