Decided to try out reformer pilates for the first time this year and went to Groove Barre's…read moreintroduction class. It's located on the second floor of the building and once you up the stairs you turn left for the reformer pilates, I believe there's other rooms for other classes on the right. I was greeted by the reception and had to sign a waiver form. You also have to wear pilates socks at this location during your exercises but if you don't have any, they have some for purchase at their studio. Once you walk into the room/ class you're expected to leave all your belongings like purses, wallets and phones at their cubbies since it's a no phone zone when the class is in session. Since I picked an introductory class, the instructor talked us through how to use the reformers and what to expect. During the class, I thought it'd be more useful if the instructor actually showed us how to do certain moves herself so we had a visual, rather than just talking us through the steps. As beginners, it would've been a lot more helpful. Knowing that this was a introductory class, I didn't expect to be sweating and be super sore the next day - which I wasn't. But I definitely felt some muscles being activated that I don't usually target. Overall, it was a great experience and I went back a couple more times after that. Take the introductory class as it really helped with understanding how to use the reformer and how the movements should feel.

I thought my LA Fitness membership would get me in. It had never failed me in the USA…read more Unfortunately, LA Fitness memberships doesn't cross borders. As soon as I scanned my barcode, the alarms went off telling David the manager who was there that morning to inform me that my membership was not good at his club. Interestingly, even though my membership was not valid at his club, David was able to look at my membership profile and see that I am a longtime LA Fitness member and was able to allow me to workout at his club. This Markham club was comparable to the Diamond Bar, California club that I normally workout at. LA Fitness considers this club a Premier Plus Club...whatever that means. My regular premiere club and this club were basically the same, except mine in California provides towels for me. It was less fancy than their Signature Club in Irvine, CA, where their headquarters are at. They had treadmills and ellipticals that were equipped with a TV screen for you to watch. They had free weights and machines. Most of the equipment worked, not like at some of the other clubs I've been to. The club seemed clean. Paper towels and sanitizer were available. No towel service at this club. The parking lot was adequate. I was able to find a spot. It's a good LA Fitness gym. I still don't know what a premier plus club is. It sounds good, but, it is no different from a regular premier club in the USA. Thank you David for letting me get my work out in.

Hubby and I had a relaxing afternoon at Float Valley. We started off with 1 hour of Fire and Ice…read moreTherapy, then finished off with 1 hour of couples float. The Fire and Ice session consisted of rotating through sauna, quick shower, cold plunge, then standing in front of the infrared light. The sauna was big enough for 2 people to lay down, one on each bench. If you ask the staff, they will provide you with some essential oils to put on top of the rocks to elevate the experience. The cold plunge was super cold and I only dipped my body in for a split second. The tank is big enough for 1 person to lay in, like a bath tub. The infrared light was nice as it's supposed to promote muscle relaxation and pain relief. There is also a speaker in the room which you can use to select your own music. This room is completely private and for our use only - bathing suit is optional! The float session was something new to us and I was nervous about being claustrophobic in the tank. Luckily the tank was big enough for the both of us. You can keep the door closed (but I found the humidity buildup too much which made it hard to breathe), so I left a tiny crack open. You can choose to have ambient light (around the perimeter of the pool) or the starry night above or keeping it pitch black. The staff said that an hour of sleep in the tank is equivalent to 4 hours of sleep in your bed!! The facilities were clean and the staff were kind and helpful. You can fill your water bottle up with cold reverse osmosis water or make yourself a cup of hot tea. I just wish that there is something similar in Mississauga, rather than having to drive to Markham for this experience.

The space was really great and clean. The energy enhancement was interesting - it is recommended to meditate or sleep. The girl at the front desk said people bring a book to read too which would've been nice to know ahead of time. This was my first time doing any kind of float therapy - we really enjoyed it as it was super relaxing to just let go. The tank did get hot so we cracked the door open twice to get some air. You're able to control the lights in the tank as well as the music. The fire and ice was great as well. The cold plunge was extremely cold but it was a fun challenge going between the two. The staff there were super kind and friendly. I'm so happy to have gotten to experience this and with my boyfriend made for a great date day!

I definitely got my butt kicked at Unionville Fitness. I was here as part of a Yelp fitness event…read moreand the owner, Shabiha, was so kind to have set out a boot camp routine for us. We were divided into groups of 4 and there were about 4 stations around the gym. We were to do designated exercises at each station for about 30 seconds, then move on to the next station. We would rest for about 30-60 seconds after one circuit and then repeat. We did push-ups, lunges, shoulder presses, bicep curls, burpies, and a whole lot more. I was sweating pretty hard by the end of it. The gym itself isn't very big but it has plenty of equipment. It's brightly lit and very clean. It's not really a place to just drop by and do your own workout. It offers boot camp classes or one-on-one training. I think it's a great place to start if you're easily intimidated at big name gyms. A gentleman was helping Shabiha during the boot camp class and he kept encouraging everyone, and gave awesome pointers on how to modify an exercise to make it easier or harder. I would consider coming back for the boot camp classes.

I attend this location solely for the Lesmills group exercise classes and for Jimmy's classes only…read moreas he is by far one of the best instructors out there! He cares about his students & takes his time to make sure that we are doing it correctly so that we don't waste our time and to ensure that we do not injure ourselves. He is very high energy which feeds off to the rest of us & we feel energy moving through us while doing his Combat & Pump class. Even before entering the group ex class & upon entering the gym, I am always greeted with a friendly and warm smile from Prabhjot! He always makes me feel welcomed, listens to any questions or concerns I have with care and he is just such a nice person to be able to see and interact with the moment I arrive at Goodlife. I love my chats with him! The one small complaint I have is the Recovery Room that has a couple of very good massage chairs in it. That room is always busy and it is very difficult to get access to one of those massage chairs. People don't care and will keep it on repeat even though they can see that others are waiting for the chairs. It would be cool if there can be a scanner attached to it somehow to start the machines based on your membership and can only be scanned a specific number of times within a certain time. I can't speak for any other areas in this location but I do notice that it is an extremely busy location during prime times such as after work.
