    Toast skagen
    Ann W.

Review is for lunch at the cafe - Millesgarden Lanthandel. Semi self-service but very friendly staffs who translated menus into English for me. Beautiful elevated view overlooking Europa & tjuren. Had a very sumptuous toast skagen (shrimp) and warm bread with roasted rosemary (complimentary). Worth a visit. Garden entry 150 SEK adult. Cafe/restaurant also has separate entry, mains price ranges from 100-200 SEK

    Yum

Very nice atmosphere, the garden felt like French Riviera. Particularly loved Milles's studio. Very original place.

In 1961, the ship was recovered from the seabed, restored, and put on display. This museum charges an admission fee for adults but not for children. I visited this museum one time, and my favorite part was, of course, viewing the Vasa. The ship sat on the bottom floor of the building, and I viewed the ship from different floors. It looked large and beautifully adorned, despite not having its original painted colors. I could still admire its joining planks, cannon holes, and carved sculptures. I also viewed other exhibits such as James Cameron's "Challenging the Deep." The museum also has a restaurant and a gift shop where I purchased a few souvenirs. The Vasa Museum was one of my favorite places to visit in Stockholm, and I recommend that others visit it.

We…read morefinally decided to check out Skansen two days before midsummer, mildly apprehensive about the entrance fee since we still couldn't figure out what Skansen was about, but we hoped there would be midsummer decorations. There was confusion about the train route and after speaking to the gate agent, skipped the extra fee for the train to go up the hill. We were here to walk. At first glance, Skansen is a living museum of how things were done in the olden days, replete with actors. There were no midsummer decorations, though I was told the main thing was the may pole, which we had already seen erected on another archipelago. A delightful surprise was the animal farm (with an almost free roaming peacock) and the Nordic animal zoo. This accidental stumble on animals (bears, bison, reindeer, etc) was my favorite part of Skansen. Overall a neat place to spend an afternoon. Would recommend!

The museum has an impressive permanent collection (pieces by Picasso, Dalí, Duchamp, Matisse, etc.). When we visited last week, I was really blown away by an exhibit made up of works from their permanent collection: "Pink Sails: Swedish Modernism in the Moderna Museet Collection." I wasn't familiar with too many Swedish artists, so it was a pleasure to explore this exhibit and experience art that was new to me! The museum is open late (until 8pm on Tuesdays and Fridays), which was great for us - it let us tag on a visit to the museum at the end of a full day of touristing around Gamla Stan. The museum is gorgeous, very modern, with a great gift shop, cafe, and restaurant. A really beautiful museum and well worth visiting if you're interested in modern and contemporary art.

Just a 25-minute ferry ride from the city center, and suddenly you're in the middle of serene nature, surrounded by rocky shorelines, pine trees, and calm Baltic waters. The island is small and walkable, which makes it perfect for a half-day trip. There's something really charming about wandering the trails, watching boats glide past, and stopping for fika or a drink along the water. You'll find cozy cafés, glassblowing and craft shops, and even a little chocolate factory. It's tourist-friendly without feeling overly commercial. Swimming spots are tucked around the edges if you're up for a dip, and there are plenty of sun-warmed rocks to lounge on if you're not. It gets busy in the summer, but still feels peaceful -- like a local secret hiding in plain sight. Tip: Come hungry. The restaurants (especially Fjäderholmarnas Brygga) are excellent, and enjoying a cold drink by the water is basically a Swedish summer ritual. Whether you want to explore, relax, or just eat well with a view, Fjäderholmarna is totally worth the trip.
