This is a great stop while in Stockholm. It's off the beaten path, but it has great views and is close to Skinnarviksberget which has great views as well. This is a little dirt trail that runs along some back yards. It's not very long, maybe a quarter of a mile or so. There are good views all along it. They also have some benches so you can stop and enjoy the view. It's easy to walk to from the subway station. You won't find this in many must see in Stockholm lists, but I think it's definitely worth checking out and spending a bit of time strolling along.

You have to visit this place because it has gorgeous views of the city. I also wish I came here at night because I heard it was beautiful and has amazing night photography potential here. From this point you're a couple hundred feet above sea level and you get a beautiful panoramic view of Gamla Stan (Stockholm's old town) and beyond. There is some water before Gamla Stan so it gives you good spacing so you can really take a step back and appreciate the beautiful city in front of you. I love the pastel colours of the city and the old consistent facades of the buildings of the old town. It's very picturesque as well with the churches petruding over the buildings. It's also pretty quiet so you can relax and here the energy and liveliness of the city in front of you and all around you!

Wow. This is hands down a must-go/see when in Stockholm! Monteliusvagen offers a stunning panoramic view of the city. It's easy to find and worth the journey from wherever you're staying! We came just around sunset and the view was awesome. Definitely one of the highlights of this trip - a really great spot for a photo op! I'm sure it would be beautiful at night time too. Highly HIGHLY recommend :)

One of the sweet-spots of Stockholm that can be a bit tricky to find... When people come to visit me in Stockholm, I always try to take them for a walk from Mariatorget to Slussen by Monteliusvägen. It has awesome views of the whole city and the scenery if quite romantic. The walk is scattered with benches where you can pause and just watch Stockholm. Personally, I like the view best at sunrise, the depth-of-field is incredible, but mid-day duriong the hottest summer days is another favourite.

This is where you need to go for that unbeatable panorama view of Stockholm - there simply isn't a better place for that. My Lonely Planet had suggested that this was a scenic walk along the water's edge in Sodermalm, but I was unprepared for just how good the vistas were from here. It's not the easiest to find, even with the map and Google Maps on hand - a winding walk from Hornsgatan brought me to a giant metal walkway in the air, accessed from up a hill, but that wasn't the start of it, so don't get fooled like I was. Just along from there is a metal nameplate, written in an old font, pointing you in the right direction. A short amble down the path soon brings you to the first of a series of viewing areas, gently descending down the hillside towards the steps that take you back down to the water's edge. Each one of these offers simply stunning views across the bay towards Riddarholmen and Gamla Stan, uninterrupted by other buildings or lamp-posts. It would be very easy to spend at least an hour here, if not more, just drinking in the views and gazing from left to right. If you're in Stockholm and it's not raining, then you absolutely must visit Monteliusvagen. It would probably still be worth it in the rain.

Yelp, oh Yep, thanks so much for listing this place. If you look at Google Maps it's not very difficult to find it. Just walk along Bastugatan carefully and look for the signs. We came on a winter morning, and it snowed the night before. It was so beautiful. I can't imagine how beautiful Gamla Stan looks in sunny summer days.

A short walk from the city and then you get to see an amazing view on Stockholm ! It's perfect at sunset or late afternoon on a sunny day. There are some benches, people reading, some people taking tons of pictures (=me) but it was not at all crowded. Oh and did I mention that the view is spectacular ? :-)

A stroll down Monteliusvägen is a must for all of us at any time of the day and honestly, nighttime too. For my part I could very well imagine to live in a tent up there, if admitted. And it´s just not the walk itself. Connected to it are a number of small parks memorizing some important artists. Won´t reveal anything about the view. This is Stockholm and right in the middle of it. See you there!

This is one of the best views in all of Stockholm (and it is free). Many of the locals here either did not know this place exists or at the very least were surprised I found this place on my own. You can get some great panoramic shots here and chances are there will be few people/tourists here. There are a couple of benches here so bring a snack or some wine and enjoy the view.

Somehow a bit tricky to find as mentioned before in the comments, yet definitely worth the search. On a sunny day we came here and just chilled out on the many benches that you can find around. Perfect view, not crowded, just one of those places that you look for in cities!

Yes, Hagaparken is fantastic and massive, and definitely takes second place. But there's something so personal, so special, about Vita Bergen. While Hagaparken feels modern, there's something classic and romantic about Vitabergsparken. Perhaps it's the name, White Mountains. Perhaps it's the decadent and impressive Sofia Church, more than 100 years old, which towers upon the hill. Perhaps it's the history - this part of Södermalm has had its name since the early 1800s. It was once one of the poorest parts of Stockholm, and Swedish playwright August Strindberg featured the area in his novel The Red Room. Today it's one of the most hip and vibrant parts of the island, located right by Nytorget, aka the cafe and cultural centrum of Stockholm's artsy elite. The park is massive, and has an outdoor amphitheatre, a gazebo, a playground, and plenty of trees and alcoves with BBQ grills and picnic tables. There are always friends and couples and families relaxing here, and the park echoes with laughter - but there's always room to put down a blanket and have your own little square of peace and quiet. But it also has its modern and even futuristic aspects. Here's a little trivia: Deep in the mountains, the Pionen center is nestled. Pionen used to be a civil defence center and Cold War bunker, but in 2008 it was converted into a data center. I haven't been in there, and I'm not sure you can get in at all if you don't work there, but there are some pretty awesome pictures online - it's a deep-space modern data center featuring fountains, a fish tank, greenhouses, and more, below 30 metres of granite. Anyway, let's go back above ground. Vitaberg is my go-to spot for picnics, fika, playing games like Swedish 'kubb', and also big events like birthday celebrations and of course Midsummer. The park is also famous for its amphitheatre which is used frequently for the Summer Theatre series, with plays, ballet, and poetry onstage multiple nights a week. It's green, lush, clean, and quiet. The winding, meandering paths zigzag across the hill, and it's easy to take the path less travelled here. It's easy to get lost, but it's easy to get found. A dozen hidden staircases take you down from the hills onto the street, and quaint red-painted cottages dot the edges. It's a perfect place for sunrise, and unbeatable for sunsets. It's no wonder that Vitaberg has been featured in multiple modern Swedish pop songs. There's a popular song by Rebecca & Fiona called 'The Bells of Vitaberg': "When the bells of Vitaberg ring, you know that the night is ours. Time is running when Vitaberg's bells ring; you know the night is ours, and my heart is pounding."

But this is the warmer heart, the one that beats a little faster and sometimes makes you skip a beat. Generally speaking, Medborgarplatsen (literally 'The Citizens' Place') is cleaner than Sergels torg. It also has more character in my opinion. There's a skating rink in the winter (which is fake grass the rest of the year), the famous Snaps restaurant and club, wonderful Debaser, the spacious swimhall Forsgrénska badet, and of course Söderhallarna, with all of its shops and delicacies. Having said all that, there's not actually much to DO on Medborgarplatsen. Not the square itself, at any rate. Of course you can have lunch at Snaps or chill on the steps of Debaser or grocery shop at Coop or go to the movies in Söderhallarna...but that's kind of all around the square. The square itself is just transitional...a gateway to better things. But hey, the point is, it feels nice! Unlike the nearby Björns trädgråd just across the street, it feels lively and clean and safe. And it's probably the best spot in all of Stockholm for people-watching, if you want to see loads of Swedes!
