Yesterday while shopping in Millerton, I purchased an antique German stag horn mount at another store in Millerton. Since it was not something that could be put in a bag, when I entered the Millerton Center for Antiques, I informed the women at the front desk that I brought it in with me. After browsing in the store with my friends for about 40 minutes, we made our way to the front door to leave. As I left, a nasty man, whose name I later learned was Fred, stopped my friend who was folllowing behind me, and aggressively asked him if I had paid for the stag horn mount. My friend informed him that we had purchased it at another shop, and had brought it in with us. The man approached me on the street and asked if he could see the tag on the item. I stopped and showed it to him, and he indignantly asked me why the tag had not been removed, and whether I had a receipt. We told him numerous times that we had informed the women at the front desk we had come in with the item, but he would not let it go. At this point, there were people on the street who were stopping to watch what was going on. We told Fred how insulting it was that he was accusing us of shoplifting. He got even more aggressive and started raising his voice about how people shoplift from the store all the time. He never apologized, and at that point we told him we were leaving. I really wish Fred had called the police, because he would have been surprised to learn I am a retired law enforecement officer, and our other friend is an attorney. I will never visit this store again, and I will be telling all my friends, and anyone I know who is visiting Millerton, to steer clear unless they want to risk being accosted by this nasty man. If I could give this store negative stars I would. read more
