She started here shortly after turning 2 and now that she's a few months away from turning 4, she swims better than a lot of her friends who are twice her age. She is extremely confident in the water. She understands basic water safety as well. We've regularly attended both the Tulsa and the Jenks location and they share many instructors. Tulsa is an older location, but great nonetheless. I have recommended Miller to many friends for both children and adult lessons. We are considering signing up my husband for adult lessons, which I've heard are just as great as the children clas

To begin, if you don't know, this gym's members lean toward the affluent. You can see the evidence…read moreexamining the parked cars, the spectrum of services typically offered at a country club, and the what I call "the new shoe parade" (adults over 40 wearing the most trendy athletic shoes). Glaring discrepancies: - the men's bathroom stalls don't stay locked efficiently and have a peek-a-poo gap you can use both eyes to see through. They'll spend money on fake plants, yet won't fix what's needed (this applies to other issues as well) - so far this summer, the outside "hot tub" is either disgusting, jets don't work, flooded with kids under 12 (there's a rule against that), or it's closed off - when it's busy, you'd swear no one in the greater Tulsa area is going to any other gym at that moment - it's succumb to the "Premium" disease. Some things you can't do unless you pay more - and a general membership is already pricey - if you want to play pickleball - good luck. They change the schedule of when the courts are available for whatever types of players. If it's free play, you might end up waiting awhile before you play again. There's only 3 courts. That's all for now. I'm sure there's other issues. Those are just from my lens. Two stars simply because it has so many services. Think "Costco" of gyms. It's got a dystopian feel and it's up to you how much kool aid you want to drink.

Don't be fooled by this place. It looks nice. But it is in terrible shape. They refuse to maintain…read moreor fix anything until another few weeks or months beyond whenever they HAVE to. The pools are virtually unusable. If you take a tour and they try to give you the line that the therapy pool is around 95 & the regular pool is about 86, DO NOT BELIEVE THEM! The heaters have been broken for MONTHS now. That's right, I said months. The temp today was 76 in the therapy pool & 78 in the main. Even when they were working, the temps would range wildly. They were never the same temp twice. The therapy pool could be 83 one day and over 100 a few days later. They. Just. Don't. Care. They refused to add proper chlorine to the pools for months as well. It took repeated calls to the health dept to get them to FORCE them to get it up to level. "Oh, how bad could it be?" you ask. The proper level is supposed to be 7.2. The therapy pool was .2 to .5. For MONTHS. That is very dangerous & unhealthy. They were cloudy all the time and smelled. The saunas were down for a long time. I was told there was black mold in the ladies locker room one for a very long time, but even at that, they refused to fix it. Or CLOSE IT! Even with black mold. The showers were broken for over a year before they got fixed despite dozens of requests to fix them. It was not a complex plumbing issue, it was REPLACING A SHOWER HEAD!! Get the picture? They care about your money, not you. Then they will not spend any to keep things fixed. They will tell you anything to get you to sign up, but if you ever have a problem, you are all the way out of luck. So if you believe the "C" in "YMCA" stands for "Christian" - nope. WWJD? Care enough about people to keep things fixed.

I've been pretty busy these last few months, and haven't had as much time to come here as much, but…read moreI've got a bit more free time again and have made my way back. The main difference that I've noticed (and I guess the reason for this update) is that the staff doesn't seem as interactive. And I kind of mean this in a good way? They used to have workers stand in the entryway upstairs, at the top of the straits landing between the two sections of workout equipment. This always felt a little awkward to me, like they were just watching everyone exercise (which was their job, so they were) and it was probably weird (and super boring!) for them too! It was nice that they were more available for any questions/ issues that way though. Now I'm not sure where they are? So maybe something between those two ways would be good... I'll also say that a few months ago, the staff was always super welcoming when coming in and leaving the building. Recently, I haven't really seen as much of that. Honestly I'm not sure if I miss that, or if I'm cool with just being able to walk in and just kind of stay to myself and go on with my way lol. I guess again, maybe something in between would be good. I think maybe one reason for this is that everyone knows how to use their cards or their phones to check themselves in, so there's less of a need to have someone right there at the door all the time, to be fair. Not gonna change my star rating even though there are some changes, just because I feel like the differences are more neutral in my eyes. Not necessarily better, or worse, just differences! I just wonder if these were intentional changes or not...?

If you follow my reviews, then you know how much of a fan I am of the YMCA. I've had a membership…read morefor years and I have the national membership that allows me to use YMCA locations across the country. That's why I am reviewing the Tulsa location. Here for business and needed to get my workout in and my daily sauna session so I headed to the downtown Tulsa location. Now this location is right in the middle of downtown Tulsa in what seems to be a pretty historic part of the city. When I went on a Wednesday evening, downtown was fairly deserted so I took a Lime scooter from my hotel at the Fairfield Inn over to the YMCA, which only took me about eight minutes. Once I arrived and went in the front door the young lady at the front counter was able to get me checked in within 10 minutes and gave me a quick layout of the location. Now this is definitely a smaller location with a pretty decent set of machines and free weights. The club is three total floors I believe and they have additional studio spaces in classrooms as well. They do have a sauna and a whirlpool, which is pretty cool! As you know, I'm always looking for that steam room and unfortunately this location didn't have it, but they did have a functional sauna which is a big plus when it comes to YMCAs. I worked out for about an hour hit the sauna for another 40 minutes and was back at the hotel two hours later. Definitely a location I will be frequently during my many business trips to Tulsa.
