Don't be fooled by this place. It looks nice. But it is in terrible shape. They refuse to maintain or fix anything until another few weeks or months beyond whenever they HAVE to. The pools are virtually unusable. If you take a tour and they try to give you the line that the therapy pool is around 95 & the regular pool is about 86, DO NOT BELIEVE THEM! The heaters have been broken for MONTHS now. That's right, I said months. The temp today was 76 in the therapy pool & 78 in the main. Even when they were working, the temps would range wildly. They were never the same temp twice. The therapy pool could be 83 one day and over 100 a few days later. They. Just. Don't. Care. They refused to add proper chlorine to the pools for months as well. It took repeated calls to the health dept to get them to FORCE them to get it up to level. "Oh, how bad could it be?" you ask. The proper level is supposed to be 7.2. The therapy pool was .2 to .5. For MONTHS. That is very dangerous & unhealthy. They were cloudy all the time and smelled. The saunas were down for a long time. I was told there was black mold in the ladies locker room one for a very long time, but even at that, they refused to fix it. Or CLOSE IT! Even with black mold. The showers were broken for over a year before they got fixed despite dozens of requests to fix them. It was not a complex plumbing issue, it was REPLACING A SHOWER HEAD!! Get the picture? They care about your money, not you. Then they will not spend any to keep things fixed. They will tell you anything to get you to sign up, but if you ever have a problem, you are all the way out of luck. So if you believe the "C" in "YMCA" stands for "Christian" - nope. WWJD? Care enough about people to keep things fixed. read more

I've been pretty busy these last few months, and haven't had as much time to come here as much, but I've got a bit more free time again and have made my way back. The main difference that I've noticed (and I guess the reason for this update) is that the staff doesn't seem as interactive. And I kind of mean this in a good way? They used to have workers stand in the entryway upstairs, at the top of the straits landing between the two sections of workout equipment. This always felt a little awkward to me, like they were just watching everyone exercise (which was their job, so they were) and it was probably weird (and super boring!) for them too! It was nice that they were more available for any questions/ issues that way though. Now I'm not sure where they are? So maybe something between those two ways would be good... I'll also say that a few months ago, the staff was always super welcoming when coming in and leaving the building. Recently, I haven't really seen as much of that. Honestly I'm not sure if I miss that, or if I'm cool with just being able to walk in and just kind of stay to myself and go on with my way lol. I guess again, maybe something in between would be good. I think maybe one reason for this is that everyone knows how to use their cards or their phones to check themselves in, so there's less of a need to have someone right there at the door all the time, to be fair. Not gonna change my star rating even though there are some changes, just because I feel like the differences are more neutral in my eyes. Not necessarily better, or worse, just differences! Jessica Tandy was successful, but who knew there'd be a YMCA named after her. I feel like a lot of the members here live in their own little Coccoon, if you know what I mean. And there are flowers - daisies and others - all over the driveway. So if you're driving in here, make sure you miss daisies, because who wants to run over daisies. And watch out for "The Birds." I'm in the gym as I speak. Voice dictation FTW. So the Tandy is a really excellent facility. It has plenty of machines and multiple versions of all the weights so that you will usually get what you want. Even though the Rolling Stones said you can't always do that. Everything looks new and everything has been recently renovated and it smells clean, feels clean, and it's just very well done in general. Having said that, some of the other people using the gym are not nearly as friendly as they should be considering this is a state that is famous for being friendly. It does bother me that it was hard to get hold of the cables. It bothers me that somebody was using several different machines at the same time and then when they disappeared, I started using one of those machines which I had been waiting for, and then they came back and planted themselves back on the machine while my stuff was there and while I'm standing there. Bear in mind this is a nearly empty gym so that just made it more frustrating. And somebody jumped in on my machine in between sets and stayed on it for a while. Then I saw them do the same thing to somebody else. It's a near empty gym and they were just trying to antagonize people. Clearly. Another positive is that they have nice staff and gave me absolutely no trouble getting in here and did not have to verify my Identity or anything like that. Another negative is that the locker rooms are outdated. The showers are falling apart. However a positive is that if you can get one of these showers that is falling apart to actually work it has probably the best water pressure of any YMCA I have ever used in my life. And that's more important to me than being shiny and new, since I use these for my showers when I'm on the road. Another negative is that the weights are the clunky kind which are more hard to maneuver but they're not the worst I've used and they didn't give me nearly as much problems as some others do. Also they don't have any of the kind of bikes that I like which is frustrating but most gyms do not these days, and even the ones which used to are getting rid of them. Overall I really have to give this facility five stars because it feels like it should be a five-star facility despite some of the deficiencies that I just talked about. Pros: I used to be a member here years ago. Quit to join a cheaper gym. Rejoined a few months back due to the huge selection of classes. Cons: Last Saturday I had a very unpleasant encounter with an employee. Karen (older lady with short curly hair). Yes, that's her real name. I've seen Karen before but had not had the misfortune of interacting with her until that day. The scanner wasn't working at the entrance. She took an unnecessarily long time to find me in their system because she kept typing my ID number in wrong. In the meantime, she let a bald, middle aged caucasian man enter. I said, "That's not fair! Why does he just get to enter without signing in?" She looked at me smugly and shrugged. Racist? I know it can't be a class situation because I look to be in a better socioeconomic situation than that guy. I know it's not about age/maturity. That guy and I were about the same age. Maybe I'm even older? She asked me for my name. I told her my first and last. She proceeded to say my middle name wrong 3 times and wouldn't hand me back my phone until I told her how to pronounce it. Uh, microaggression. I friggin cannot help it if my parents gave me an ethnic name that Karen felt the need to harass me over. Someone needs to send that lady to unconscious bias training. This whole thing made me super late for me yoga class. And I had to spend my entire class staring at the bald head of the middle age man who just breezed passed Karen. I'd quit except I have some classes I really like. My husband says it's not the YMCA's fault that lady is a racist. Oh yes it is! They should not let a racist lady be the gatekeeper to their facility. Racist ladies should not get to be public facing or be allowed to have any power over others. That is within the YMCA's control. read more

This YMCA used to be the Thornton for 50 years but was recently remodeled and re-opened in early 2017. It is a top-notch facility and it's so beautiful! It has a super spacious cardio area and a huge strength & conditioning area with brand-new equipment. There's 5 separate group exercise rooms where you can find bootcamp, indoor cycling, defense class, conditioning, dance, yoga and pretty much something for everyone. They also have a Healthy Table Nutrition Kitchen where you get to cook alongside chefs and dieticians. Parents can also leave their children at their childcare program, Play & Learn, while they workout. Their programming includes arts and crafts, literacy, science, and many other skills that are relevant for youth development. There are three pools: a family pool, lap swimming pool, and a therapy pool as well as a splash garden. Kids love their two-story water slide which exits and reenters the building. I have attended a couple of community events and trainings here since they also have community rooms available. There is plenty of parking which is definitely needed (especially in January!). Finally, the staff is also super helpful and always friendly and willing to help. read more

Our family has enjoyed this facility. The value for the price is good, and the availability of exercise equipment is good even at relatively busy times. The biggest drawback for us is the limitation on the hours of availability for childcare. Hopefully this will change/improve as the situation with Covid 19 progresses. read more

To many kids unsupervised by there owners .there should be a time for adults only. Other than that its a good place to work out .

Girlfriend lives in Tulsa and needed to get in a good swim workout, pool was excellent, 4-5 dedicated, wide lanes for lap swimming. It was extremely crowded the day I went, but lap lanes were well regulated and not filled with people floating around (there were a few, but lap lanes weren't packed so lifeguards were being lenient). Overall, the facility is huge and well kept, looks like a great gem for the city. Will be back for future swims. read more

This is my favorite gym to go to. The instructors are all amazing and the gym is kept really clean. I also really enjoy the pool -- sometimes it gets a bit crowded in the aquatic area, but overall it's a great experience. read more

Not very kid friendly. We were kicked out of the toddler area of the pool after 5 minutes of swimming because they changed the hours in the summer to fit the needs of the elderly and there wasn't much notice. I really don't appreciate the sudden change in hours at the pool. Especially when I signed up for a gym membership here, expecting things to be the way they were when I signed up. We have two kids and limited time to swim but this new change makes the gym useless for us now. Their excuse was that there weren't enough kids using the toddler area to justify keeping it open for toddlers at 11am - 3pm. Meanwhile there were 3 other families who were kicked out along with my daughter and I. It's no wonder they're losing business with people with kids. Many people I know have said the same. We're canceling membership and shopping around for a new, friendlier gym. read more

When I asked about becoming a member and if they had basketball courts, they said they had 3 full courts. They have 3, but they are sized for 10 year olds. Highly disappointed. Their staff should be more accurate in describing what they have and offer a tour for potential members before they sign up. The design of the courts/gym is also really shitty and not well planned. They could have got two full courts and 2 youth courts. read more

Swim lessons for my 4yr old grandson have really taught him nothing. We started with 3 teachers for 15 kids. Lessons are twice a week for 30 minutes, after first week it became 2 teachers. For the first 4 lessons he had a different teacher. This is difficult in knowledge of the child's fears or abilities. I gave it two stars because the facility is amazing though way too crowded and distracting for a 4year old. I would not recommend this program. read more
