Super bummed that they are moving the team to the new event center that is going to be built in downtown Kzoo. If you haven't made it to a game at Lawson, I definitely recommend it before the team moves. Tickets are fairly cheap. I believe we paid $22 and were in the bleachers behind the net, 4th row. WMU is a consistently ranked team in the top 25 nationally. They are so entertaining to watch! You can even buy beer and alcohol at the games now! As for parking, the best spot to park is across the bridge by miller auditorium and walk over. It's free on the weekends.

We arrived at 12:15 and size selection was already somewhat limited so I certainly recommend arriving at noon. Price wise this place is less than half of he cost of other area options, so it was busy. However we paid and got skates quickly and we were off. For little ones needing some help they have some walker style push things to use. It was the first time for both my kids and they a actually did better just holding my hand. Half way through they clear the ice to run the Zamboni, only took about ten minutes and they skating was back on. It was busy but there was as still plenty of room to navigate and the kids had a great time. I'm sure we'll be back :)

It was a decent rural drive, through small towns and blueberry and apple farms, and when we first saw the arena from the outside, it was a mix of awe and curiosity. My son thought it looked shady (in a bad way), nested in the middle of local homes and businesses. I didn't know what to expect, so when I saw this outdoor rink (ODR) had a roof and an attached building, I was optimistic. I thought the kids would have to dress in the trunks of their cars and waddle through snow to get to the rink. I was pleasantly surprised at the level of sophistication. There's a lobby with a heater inside, so I watched the game from there at first. Many of the parents did, given that it was about 7 degrees F, with 30mph winds. Later in the 1st period I noticed there were parents in the outdoor stands. I found out that there were overhead heaters there and it provided just enough warmth to keep me comfortable. I had to stand though, sitting in the stands you couldn't feel it as much. My son also told me the locker rooms were equipped with heaters, so at least for a little while, before warming up, the boys could get a little relief from the cold. Overall, I like the rink. It feels warm, nestled in the neighborhood and it offers regular public skating in addition to the games. It was a nice change from the standard barns we've been to in the Midwest. I highly recommend you take a visit!

Skate rental is only $3 and the skates are the nicer plastic ones, not the old brown ones. There are plenty of blue plastic "walkers" for beginners to use. If you get cold there is a fireplace inside and plenty of hot cocoa from the concession stand.

This is a traditional, family friendly rink just like you remember from when you were a kid. Family owned - it's their 44th year in business. Look on their website for hours and rates - do not rely on any app/google searches. Use their site. If you have kids under 12 sign them up for kidsskatefree.com Rollerworld participates and each child gets one free skate pass a week for various sessions - again you check the rollerworld website to see which session it is. This is an awesome program. They host an adult skate 18+ with 70-90s music. I love that skate! They remodeled over the pandemic - new bathrooms and snack bar - and they re did the floor - smooth like butter! Car pool if you can - the lot is smaller! You can bring your own blades or skates. If you clean your stroller wheels you can stroll skate with your little one. You can rent blades or skates. Wear thicker socks if you rent. Lockers are $0.50. Bring 2 quarters to be prepared. I love this rink and I hope you check it out. It's a great sport for the whole family. Plus it's fun.

Nice barn for a tourney…read more 2 sheets here, both with ample seating and great acoustics, so that you can yell to your hearts delight and get the attention of your favorite player. Concession stand was fairly priced. Parking was great, but we were here during the January 2024 snow storm, so challenging to keep lanes straight. A few issues: Locker rooms are downstairs and only accessible via stairwell. This was challenging for the boys to get through. There's an elevator labeled for those with accessibility needs only. The entrance has no automatic doors, so challenging to work through traffic there as well. Don't know if it was the weather or just the preference, but the rinks were unusually cold. Many parents opted to stand in the back. (That was probably also for social reasons) Lastly, the lobby could use more seating. I did like the seats by the glass, which gave a nice view of the ice.

All tournament games prior to this semi final game were at a different rink in the city. This place is FILTHY!!!! The doors were locked and 4 teams of children had to wait at the locked doors for close to a half an hour. So did their parents. We walked in and there is garbage under tables and chairs in the lobby, the rugged areas have popcorn and garbage all over them. The stands have, you guessed it, garbage everywhere. One of the sheets of ice has no paint! And there is a squirt team scheduled to play on it right now. The locker rooms are filthy and full of garbage. The other sheet of ice is tore up- it needs to be zambonied twice. And the concession stand is dark with the cage pulled down. Mind you, there are 4 teams of parents and it is 7am- where's the coffee?! The last time we were here, the rink we were scheduled to play on broke the night before and there was a thick layer of water on the ice. The rink put our kids on to play, hours after they knew it was broke. It was dangerous. The game was aborted but it never should have begun. I'd like to give zero stars! This is easily the worst run rink in the city limits.
