One of my favorite records stores in the Bay Area. It's a small store LOADED with records! It's a tight fit, especially on a Record Store Day. Speaking of RSD - they almost always have everything that I'm looking for and they open up at 6am for the early birds. The owner and staff are very friendly and helpful. If you are a vinyl head I enthusiastically recommend you pay them a visit. read more

This place is a treasure hunt! There's records on every surface and it's hard to even walk. (I'm disabled so it was especially challenging.). They have some awesome finds and a lot of who the heck will buy these. Prices reflect an obviously high operating cost. Fun hobby place but I'm doubtful there's any bargains to be had. read more

The store has lots and lots and lots of records! And I love it so much! Even my parents loved it so much too!

The tops for vinyl!! Great selection and reasonably priced records. The owner Gary is very knowledgeable too.

EXCELLENT selection of LP's! Especially Record store day titles. My only suggestion is I wish the store was a little easier to navigate. Some of the records are in boxes on the ground and while I'm all about hunting for that rare gem, my knees and back aren't what they once were. LOL! Still, this is a great place and I recommend it to my record buying friends. Also, the prices are more than fair. read more

Cute shop. Along a one way street. Kind of sucky parking. A lot of items. A lot of RSD releases still out there. Pretty crowded and lots of records to go through. Upstairs is Childrens (Disney) and soundtracks. New releases seem to be at the stairs Nice guy. Should be on social media a bit more though. We only went because the guy at Watts told us we might be able to find the RSD release we were looking for. read more

Gary has always been a great source for new and obscure CD's and albums! He will go out of his way to assist you. His vast knowledge and experience is so valuable! The best source for your music needs in Marin! read more

Gary is a great guy and he has soooooo.... many records in here, it's sometimes a little challenging to find stuff - but they have everything! I'm not a fan of looking through stuff at ground level, so I only see part of what's in there, but wow, what a selection Prices in here are great, way cheaper than Red Devil in San Rafael and the selection is amazing - new and used. Do you self a favor and visit here, you won' regret it.... read more

Amazing selection of records, found all of my favorite albums for a reasonable price, good customer service but unfortunate that they aren't Apple Pay accommodating. Would go again. read more

This store is crazy. I am more then willing to buy records but they are never open. Does not matter what their website says 130 on a Sunday 4pm on a Friday. Does not matter. So disappointing. Not worth the trip - they don't answer the phone either. Really hope we get a real record store in marin. Crazy this guy does not want the business. read more

Well, you take what you can get . . . and with the famous Village Music long closed, this is what you got.: A small storefront on the edge of the Miller Avenue business district crammed with vinyl. The store does its best with what it has. The usual rock, soul, jazz, and I even saw a few 78s. I didn't see any of the collectibles, but then, collectibles' owners are probably hanging onto these disks and not offering them for sale. No albums that jumped out at me this time. Besides, like I wrote on Amoeba Music's review, record stores appear to be going the way of the 8-track, which is sad. If you're starting a record collection, this is a good place to start. read more

Love this place keeping it real always able to hunt and find a good old one or take a risk and find a new sound to get turned on by!

It's super hard to live without John and Village Music as an option anymore (how has it been 12 years...) but Gary is doing a great job of keeping that same spirit alive. What you probably wont find here is that super obscure hardcore record or private press psych jam, but you also wont find boutique attitudes or pretentious "my preciousssssss vinyl" mentality either. Mill Valley music takes me back to being a teenager in the nineties buying cheap LPs for cheap thrills because it was a fun way to explore music for a kid with no money. If you also long for a time machine when record stores weren't like designer denim stores with their $40 reissues all displayed on the wall like trophies, when sellers didnt think they were hot sh*t just for selling records, and record buyers didn't think they were hot shi*t just for buying em, this is as close as you are probably going to get. Be thankful and shop often, these places won't last forever. read more

I'm giving this place four stars because I appreciate a good record hunt and this place will give you one. Tons of records, all over the place. On a few occasions I've found a few wanted records I hadn't seen anywhere else. Great little shop with a lot to offer. With that said there are some things that could be done way better. I don't mind that the store is incredibly messy, with records everywhere in piles, sometimes on top of the record bins you want to search through. What is a real shame is that the records are packed into their crates so tightly that it can be very difficult to browse and on my last visit I had to pass on at least three brand new sealed records that I wanted because they were damaged from being squeezed in boxes. read more

Fave local place to grab guitar strings and any unusual or not so vinyl. A local landmark. the owner is always kind and helps me find anything I need- last time an obscure Tori Amos in perfect condition read more

This place is prog heaven. I loved having a respectable argument about the best King Crimson and Camel albums with the owner who was a warm and friendly prog drummer. The selection of re-issued older titles was very impressive, and the owner personally directed me to some artists I was curious about. The shop is small and intimate with an upstairs jam room for local musicians to meet up and play. Band posters line the walls, and the collection is well organized so that I was able to quickly get to the records I wanted. In addition to extremely reasonably priced used records, this place had a classic King Crimson re-issue with the best price tag I have seen. I have not been able to leave this place without making a purchase! read more

Mill Valley Music is a gem. Gary, the owner, is very knowledgeable and eager to take good care of you. His store is packed with old/new vinyl (and some CDs), lot of stuff to flip through. Venture upstairs and you'll find amps, turntables, speakers and lots of classical music. Check out the posters and all the cool memorabilia. Worth a trip. read more

Very vibrant store. I walked in and stared at the posters for ever! Wow, great vibe. Records too! The owner was tall and wore a cape. I hear he speaks multiple languages and can howl like a wolf. Village records was legendary but who can remember it? Mill valley music is currently open and full of cheap to valuable records. Besides it seeps into the memory as much as anything could. I love every thing about this store except that it closes. Cant wait for the movie guys, maybe make it a "psy-fi". Very groovy. jm read more

Gary, the propietor of Mill Valley Music, is knowledgeable, takes good care of his customers and remembers the artists and genres of music we look for. His shop is a delightful assortment of music on CDs and vinyl records and occasionally has turntables, amps, receivers and loudspeakers on hand. We never leave his shop without finding something needed and or wanted. It's always a pleasure making a special trip to Mill Valley Music from Solano County. read more

There is as much to say as there are records here. I'll keep this short as I can. The owner is great at helping you because you kind of need it. There are a ton of records and although alphabetical and in genre it can be over whelming. If you are short on time you can also call or email and he will pull the records and tell you the total before you arrive. Kind of wish I did that....I ended up spending way more than I was expecting. Great place. Will be returning. read more

Used and new CDs and Vinyl. A much better selection of vinyl than I anticipated. New vinyl (with free downloads) and old vinyl from the 70s and 80s. Picked up some rare, some fun, and some fun. Fleet Foxes - LP and EP for $18 with free download. Always wanted Spirit's 12 Dreams of Dr. Sardonicus on vinyl - gatefold sleeve and all..$8 Buy them, rip to MP3 for less than the price of a cd. If you can find the cd.. Owner is a nice guy, no hassle, no record store attitude. read more

Gary is great, the music selection is excellent and the used section has gems if you're patient and come back every now and then. Most importantly, their record selection is killer. You can spend real money for thick vinyl or you can find a huge selection of scuffed up $.99 albums. read more

Mill Valley Music - A satisfied customer - Vinyl Records Near Me - Mill Valley, California

Very huge variety of records!! Paradise for me!! Got some jewels for reasonable prices! Great experience!

Talk about going above and beyond for a customer! Gary helped me find a record that was impossible to find in Southern California! All at a fair and reasonable price. The customer service I received via email was first class. A few days later, the lp arrived safe and sound in San Diego. I look forward to visiting Mill Valley Music in person someday. Thank you, Gary! read more

Gary went out of his way to help this customer who lives hundreds of miles away find a hard-to-get record. Extremely helpful via both e-mail and phone. Shipping was quick, LP arrived in excellent condition. This was my first time doing business with Mill Valley Music, but hopefully not my last! read more

Love this spot! Gary is the man and this store is physical proof that MV still has a soul!!!

I absolutely LOVE this store, it's selection, owner, and prices. NOTHING in the store is overpriced. It's actually more of a 'price to sell ' store, which is excellent. You can find anything from albums by the greats in number for a reasonable price, to rare 45's ( also at a good price). The guy that owns the place is really nice and helpful. Parking isn't too bad. If you like records, go here! read more

Ok hate to rain on the Touchy Feely Parade of glowing reviews - but this record store has gotten to be a mess. It's great if you have countless hours to wade thru piles and boxes of unsorted unpriced records. But if your time is somewhat limited and your wants and needs are focused or you have a list of bins to hit - don't bother as I don't think Gary has filed a record this decade. Oh and one last thing - I've known him forever. I always buy a record even if I don't particularly want it - just to support the store- just once can Gary withhold his "is that all you're buying" comment? read more

Mill Valley Music, founded by Gary Scheuenstuhl 12 years ago, has won BEST OF MARIN 8 times, and HALL OF FAME once as well. That's because record stores don't get any better. Yes, Mill Valley Music has the best vinyl, and if there's a record you want that isn't there, Gary will get it for you ... There are plenty of CDs for people like me who still use them ... and posters signed by stars ... but that's only part of the story. Mill Valley Music is a community center for musicians and music lovers, as Village Music was in the past. Cole Tate teaches guitar in a studio upstairs to students, young and older alike. Gary Scheuenstuhl creates a warm and welcoming vibe, where I and many others have made friends, listened, and learned. I refer to Gary as my "music educator" because I'm always learning from him, not only about songs I love, but about the way they're played, the instruments, the beat ... And then there are the annual anniversary shows, where community gathers at a local concert hall and the Mill Valley Music All-Stars cover a favorite album. COVID-19 recently caused cancellation of a show we were all waiting for, covering The Rolling Stones' "Let It Bleed." May we gather again soon ... and be more grateful than ever for Mill Valley Music and our music community. read more

I love this store! The guy is nice, and committed to music and the customer the way you'd hope for, especially in this starving era of internet commerce, bottom-line focused, soul sucking industry tyrants (really i'm not as bitter as i sound here). They sell just what they should: cds, records, dvds, T shirts, posters, rare eclectic one of a kind items, and my favorite... guitar strings. I think if KPIG had a store, it would look something like this. Thanks, dude, for continuing to live the dream! read more

This is the *only* way to buy music...the owner Gary offers a wealth of new, used, CD, vinyl and optical titles. As a middle-aged music fan I've turned my sons and many a Marin teenager onto the sonic merits of non-iTunes "hardcopy" music...once they hear it, they split their time buying music here and scouring Craigslist for used audio equipment to play it on. Once you get to know Gary he'll guide you through your existing tastes and turn you on to new stuff you'll really dig. He's terrific about letting you know of new releases by your favorites, and gives candid reviews. He'll also special-order (very quickly) just about anything. As the last-standing southern Marin music store we have a terrific little operation here...please do patronize the hell out of it! read more

A rare delight. And run by a genuinely quality individual. This store is all about the goodness, and the love, of music. Period. I don't think owner Gary is in it for the money, maybe that's why the store feels like a gift to music lovers. read more

Amazing selection at great prices. I found a number of albums that have been on my list forever. I'll definitely be going back.

Great little shop. Found 5 albums in the $.50 crates, before I even got in the store! Once inside, you'll need time to go through the treasure trove of pre-spun vinyl, along with many brand new and Record Store Day releases, as well as cds. read more

Do you want a specific record that was just released on vinyl? Get it here! Do you want to peruse aimlessly for hours through hundreds of old records for gems? Do it here! Mill Valley Music is the perfect place to do both, which is VERY rare today! Also, I went in asking for advice on how to ship records because I was totally in the doghouse with my husband for forgetting his records when we moved across the country, and the owner not only told me the best and cheapest way to do it, but gave me the boxes and packing materials to do so! Can't hype this place enough. read more

Awesome independent record store! Mill Valley Music is one of the most comprehensive and interesting record shops in all of NorCal. Set in a vintage store front with multiple levels, the place has vinyl stacked in literally every available inch in the shop. The selection ranges from new to used, collectible, super-vintage and beyond. It also stocks new things that you just don't gneerally see available at other physical shops, such as from labels like Music on Vinyl, Cleopatra and Concorde. I never leave the shop empty handed, and Gary the owner is knowledgable and always up for a good chat about music. He's also great at procuring hard-to-find special orders, for usually less than what you'd find them for online. All in all, it's a great place to go, but make sure to set aside a fair amount of time, as there's a lot to explore! read more

Hands down best music store in the Bay Area and beyond - I've been a customer for 15 years or more - thank you Mill Valley Music ! read more

Great little store! You won't find a nicer guy than Gary, the owner, to do business with. He has many years of experience in the music business, with an immense wealth of knowledge on virtually on every music genre. His prices are also very competitive. Whether you like cds, vinyl, music videos or just the little extras he also carries, do yourself a favor and drop by Mill Valley Music. You won't be disappointed. read more

Keeping in mind that it's a tiny place and in Marin County I would say the selection is solid and the range of music categories is good and I've been back a few times and always walked out with a handful of happy purchases. it's great for killing an hour and browsing through racks and boxes and I usually find some gems. the only problem is some of the albums and some of the CDs are impossible to get to because they're under several boxes. but if you feel like sticking to Marin County it's a good place to browse and pick up albums or CDs. plus it's always a super friendly place. read more

Before the Internet, people gathered at music stores and learned about great new music. You can do that here.
