Love it here. I searched far and wide when I moved to the Bay Area for a massage therapist. I have all kinds of problems with my body since I am a type AAA. I need somewhere that is good and affordable. I found it here. Never thought I could be totally comfortable with a male massage therapist but I went with my girlfriend the first time and I thought I would bit the bullet since they only had one female and a male massage therapist for us if we were to go at the same time. I lucked out. Tim is awesome. I have been getting massages for the last ten years and he is the best I have ever gone to. I used to think that deep tissue meant that I should be sore after a massage. Uh- no, it's not supposed to hurt if they do it right. I get a really good deep tissue massage and only feel 100 times better after I get a massage from Tim. I don't know what I would do without my monthly massages. My body would just fall apart and I would pay an arm and a leg from anywhere else for my 90-minute massages. read more

Very professional masseuses that really know what they are doing. Everyone is very friendly. Great price! One of the best massage values around. This is our go-to massage place. I have gone multiple times and always received fantastic massages. The only reason I am not giving it 5 stars is because the facilities are very simple and bare-bones. I don't mind this at all because it keeps the cost of their services down. Everything is very clean and comfortable. But don't expect a spa-like atmosphere when coming here. read more

Called on Thursday as I am passing through hoping to get an appt for Friday....extremely nice lady called me right back and fit me in! I had an AMAZING massage from Alli (in fact so amazing I hope I remembered her name correctly!) Price was very good, place was clean and relaxing and a truly great massage! Little disappointed in my massage. I have not been here in a couple of years and it was not great. The gal was super nice but the windows were open and I heard every car and person talking that walked by. Would be good if they updated it a little and maybe had amazon echo to play music than someones phone, she was getting texts which was interrupting the music. This place consistently gives the best massages I have ever had, and I have had many. Very professional, clean, pleasant, and the masseuses here are superb. I now make it a point to drive across the bridge to take my massage here, after some really ho-hum experiences around SF. I've had a couple appointments here and have requested deep tissue. They just don't seem to get the pressure needed for deep tissue. I've asked for increased pressure and they just don't deliver. Sad about this since it's a great local spot, but they shouldn't advertise that they do deep tissue if they can't deliver. read more

yummy! i just moved to mill valley and am 7 months preggers. which means i am in constant need of massages! how happy am i to have found this affordable gem that i can also walk to??? the prenatal massage was great - Lauren spent a lot of time on my sciatica issues - which worked like a charm. i may be a bi-weekly fixture here! only issue is that i arrived before my appt time and was undressed and under the covers in a heart beat - and then i waited for about 5 minutes for the massage to start. i figured it would go to 12:20 (it was scheduled to start at 11:15 and actually started at 11:20) - but it ended at 12:15 on the nose. 5 minutes worth of massage is a lot!! read more

Oh man! These guys are great. I wanted a 1.5 hour massage for two people on Thursday for Saturday and they had an opening. That alone should have made me a fan for life. I was desperate for a deep tissue massage and got exactly that. I can walk better, move my neck and my legs feel amazing. My only "complaint", if I could even call it that, would be the hollow doors they have in all of the massage rooms. I think they are cheap and do nothing for noise control. I was lucky and had a 7:30 appt. so the place was practically silent. I would have been annoyed if my appointment was during the day as I'm confident the noise would have been really distracting. Solid doors are easy and cheap to come by. I hope they invest in some soon as I plan to go back in two weeks. Oh and did I mention they are AMAZINGLY affordable? This was my first massage ever, so I don't necessarily know if my rating is accurate, but I thought it was really good. It didn't blow me away. I definitely enjoyed the massage, but I thought it could've been firmer and more equal concentration all over. I thought the masseuse spent a lot of time on my back, which really didn't need that much massaging and could've focused more on my barkin' dogs. Otherwise, I'm sure for a massage it was worth it for the amount spent and if you tell them exactly what you are looking for, they would most likely oblige. 2 and a half stars, really - an extra half star for being able to accommodate me walking in to my appointment 45 minutes early. Had an old gift certificate for an hour massage which I unfortunately upgraded to 90 minutes. When booking the appointment I was asked what kind of massage I wanted, and I specified Swedish as opposed to deep tissue. When I arrived, Dennis, my masseur, again asked what I wanted. I explained that I needed a light touch because I'm sensitive and bruise easily, and that I wanted to focus on my shoulders, neck and back which were achy from helping my mom move her stuff to a new house earlier in the week. Unfortunately I had to ask him to ease up several times - and I am not typically one to speak up during a massage, figuring it's probably good for me even if it hurts. But when he was working on my forearms - which I didn't even want him to focus on but he said they felt tight and was working on the knots - it was extremely painful and the next day I could feel and actually see bruises. Ouchy! :( Other than that the massage was OK, a little heavy handed around my spine which was also feeling a bit bruisey the next day. I would have much preferred he spent more time on my neck and left my poor forearms alone. If you prefer deep tissue then I might recommend Dennis - who seemed like a nice guy if somewhat inexperienced. If you need a lighter touch or someone more in tune and attentive to your needs, look elsewhere. read more

I decided to check this massage place after moving to Mill Valley and reading the reviews about it. I was very excited to get my first hot stone massage with Amara. I was bitterly disappointed and a bit burnt :( As I had never had a hot stone massage before I did not know exactly how hot the stones are supposed to be. The massuese never bothered to ask me if I was ok with the temperature of the stones, etc. So after being really uncomfortable and focusing more on the burning sensations on my back rather than soothing massage I asked her to cool the stones. The massage was kind of ok afterward but it ended almost 10 min earlier. I suppose the session finishes exactly one hour late even though it takes 5 -10 min to get in the room, get undressed and patiently wait for the massage therapist to come. read more

No frills place, just focus on a really good massage. Very nice, friendly massage therapists who have all had good techniques. I have my favorite 3, though I saw someone posted that Lauren left? Oh no, she was my favorite! Reasonable prices for Marin, so much better than paying $40-50 more just because you get a cup of tea or a robe. I have been keeping Sylvia my secret because I feared if I Yelped about her, I might not be able to get an appointment when I want. Well, I'm moving out of town so I won't be able to make an appointment anytime soon, so I decided it was finally time to share my secret. I had massages with 5 others at MVM and Sylvia was the one that hit all the right spots with accurate pressure. So many of my friends go here now it's hysterical... we all think the value is outstanding and the massage is the best around. This is not a spa experience. You don't go to linger. But it is amazing for a quality massage and the type of place you could justify going on a fairly regular basis (a massage here is $54 rather than $80+ like in the city). I drive from SF for a massage here, and often come on Sunday so I can pair it with a trip to the San Rafael Civic Center farmers market or hike. I've paid twice as much for massages at high-end resorts and not been nearly as relaxed when i walk out. read more

Tried this for the first time... I asked for deep tissue message, but because I bruised easily, the person who messaged me did not recommended it. Too bad though because that what I wanted. Anyway, she suggested me a combination of deep tissue with Swedish message. Can't say that I didn't like it although it was not what I wanted. It was good that I fell asleep. It was relaxing. Tried to purchase a cert online for a holiday gift and system doesn't work. Just called and spoke to someone and she could not gaurantee when she would drop a certificate I was trying to purchase in the snail mail....yet I was able to spend $400 on a nice holiday gift for massages for my family member. Totally unwilling to "work with the customer" especially considering the holidays and people wanting to give gifts. My daughters got me a gift card for Christmas and I visited this studio for the first time in January. The massage was ok but nothing worth a second visit. The best in terms of raw massage and bodywork... You come in , go to a room, undress and wait, not spa like,but i prefer it. The therapists are very down to earth, relaxed and have extreme skill. UPDATE: after posting this, I decided I should let the owner know about this problem, particularly since I was posting something for the general public to read. Not only was the owner genuinely upset by my report, she sent me a gift certificate to thank me for the feedback and for searching thru my records to let her know the dates on which I had the problems. Her concern was so genuine, I feel confident that the receptionist problem will be fixed, and I changed my rating to 5 stars. If they get a nice, accommodating receptionist, there is absolutely nothing about it I can't recommend (although I would caution you to pick therapists who come recommended b/c some are great, others are just okay.) If you have a problem with booking an appointment on the phone w/ the receptionist, I suggest you report it to the owner -- she will appreciate it. ***************** I used to love this place. The therapists are a mixed bag, but if you find a couple of good ones, you are set. The problem is, the therapists keep changing and the phone receptionist, quite frankly, horrible; she makes it very difficult to figure out if the therapists you like are working or to book an appointment. Our convo typically goes like this: ME: "hi, do you have any massages open for tonight?" HER: "yes." ME: "um, okay, can you tell me WHEN and with WHOM?" HER: "we have one with [John] at 6:00." ME: "um, okay, is that the ONLY one you have or are there others?" HER: "we have one at 7:00 with [Jill]." ME: "okay, let's try this: what massage therapist do you have available tonight?" HER: "John is available." ME: "okay, is it JUST John or are there other therapists also available tonight?" HER: "Jill and Patty are also available." ME: "okay, could you please tell me what TIMES Jill and Patty are available." and so on. When this happened the first time, I was annoyed but dealt with it. When it happened the second time, I decided to not book an appointment for me, but still booked one for my boyfriend. The THIRD time it happened, I told the receptionist that I was so sorry to have bothered her by asking her to do her job, and I said I'd skip the massage completely. Since then, when I need a massage I think of Mill Valley Massage, but I just don't want to deal with the rude receptionist. It's like she really doesn't want me to be a customer, so why should I be?? I end up calling the San Rafael location (where I never have this problem) even thou I live in Mill Valley, or I go somewhere else. I've been thinking about emailing the owner, but I haven't gotten around to it. read more
