The landscape and forestry is vast and beautiful, and the gravel trails are consistent with the layout of the park. I even like the sight of the cemetery and garden beds that I pass by while walking. This park is a hot spot for a lot of events and attractions. There is also the Sunflower Lodge, which is a great eatery. A lot of people have judged this park harshly on the fact that it was located at a residential school, where aboriginal kids have been abused. I try to see the beauty in the scenery rather than the dark history that occurred behind it. I was even at the Stolo Nation ceremony they held at Heritage Park, where people of Aboriginal descents delineate on the dark history and suffrage behind the residential schools while taking solace on the recognition of the truth and expressing their hardships through their ceremonies. Overall, I enjoy coming to Heritage Park whenever I feel like going outdoors and embrace nature.

The is offers multiple education opportunities that include: Aboriginal settlements, customs and livelihood, the horrific history of residential schools and the long term, multi generational trauma experienced by the descendants of aboriginal settlers as a result of the residential schools. The name of the park and dedicated memorials are a work in progress to more accurately reflect the history of the site. The park is also home to many festivals and community events (events were suspended due to the pandemic). There is also a lovely restaurant-the Blackberry Kitchen on site. I was able to ride through a few trails and chose to walk others due to hills. As a new cyclist, I'd have hurt myself because it was an especially wet day. There's a playground, facilities, and picnic areas. The information pamphlet also provides a short history of how the land became a park. Very cool and beautiful place. I'll likely visit anytime I find myself in Lynden.

Its just the begining of the magic. Trailing along this park/trail would feel like crossing fields, forest, fauna and just going deep into woods. Half of the trail is around people's farmland. Ofcourse its fenced but u can see the crop and the farmhouses along the way. At places its dense tense trees n wild flowers. Pathway is gravel. U can bring your horses for horse riding or just a walk with them. ( i wish i had one but i will soon take my friends there). Somewhere in between is a railway track that is a perfect spot to take some rail track photos. ( i did take some) In total its 14 km stretch which is too much to walk or jog but who cares if u wanna be healthy so just go for it. Enjoy this sight.

Took my daughter here during some downtime…read morerecently and was pleasantly surprised by how well-kept and overall safe the playground was. She's almost 3 but absolutely loved the "big kids" portion of the playground - so much to explore and scamper upon. The little kids playground is a bit lackluster and blasé. The playgrounds have a small fence running around the perimeter so that kids don't wander off too easily. Nearby walking paths, a large bridge, relatively clean and functional bathrooms, a large gravel parking lot, and of course a small forest complete the park. FYI the big kids' playground has a bizarrely slippery and sleek steep bridge on it - would consider refiguring or resurfacing this bridge. There were also a decent amount of cigarette butts on the edge of the parking lot.

The lake needed major repairs, and the decision was made not to repair this environmental scourge... I get it. What was a good idea in the 70's may not meet today's standards. What is so terrible about this closure is that the land may end up being turned over to horse people for their use. SO now, what was a free public family gathering place for swimming, picnics and a great day out is gone. If it becomes horse trails, then a small percentage of the very wealthy have yet another place to amuse themselves. In the mean time the Aldergrove public pool - tiny little thing that it is - has now got kids stacked and packed in there all the time. Aldergrove has a population mix of people from farm labourers from Mexico, new Canadian farming families, lower income housing, some middle income to wealthy landholders. We needed a public gathering spot where people can go without having to have a membership or a horse. One of the most amazing things about the Aldergrove Lake Park Summer experience used to be the diversity of the people around the beach, and the safe and fun atmosphere. It would be great to see what the plan is for this important space.

The circular path around takes about 20-25 minutes to walk and is well-maintained. Mountain NE of Abbotsford…read more Parking is available in a smallish lot along Taggart Road between the 4km and 5km markers of the service road. The road up is unpaved but can be traversed in passenger vehicles. Past the parking lot, the road goes up a bit more (500m?) until there's a locked gate. At that point, the road can only be accessed by foot. No motorized vehicles (ATVs etc.) are allowed. At the top, there are some communications towers where the service road ends. The mountain is actually covered with plenty of hiking trails of varying difficulties. My friends and I hiked the Eastern Lookout (actually 2 lookouts a few minutes apart). From here, one can see Sumas Prairie in all its glory.
