Kokomo, Indiana's Seiberling Mansion is a rather sublime sight to see during the holiday season…read more Serving as home for the Howard County Historical Society, the Seiberling Mansion was completed in 1891 and owned by Monroe Seiberling. Seiberling was an industrialist and entrepreneur who arrived in Kokomo alongside the late 19th century gas boom. He became wealthy, built several factories in the area, and followed all this up by building a rather remarkable mansion. Subsequent owners included Orange Darby, Rev. William Parr (namesake for Parr Methodist Church), real estate developer Franklin Miller, and George Kingston. Kingston was an inventor who invented the carburetor used in Henry Ford's Model T. When Kingston passed away in 1946, Indiana University bought the home and used it as the home of IU-Kokomo until 1964. For several years, the mansion remained empty. Finally, Howard County began looking for a way to move the county museum out of the courthouse. This ended up being a perfect arrangement and IU signed a long-term agreement to turn over the property for use as a museum. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1972, the Seiberling Mansion has both a Queen Anne and Romanesque Revival style. The house has three stories - eight rooms on the first floor, seven on the second floor, and a grand ballroom on the third floor. Parking is free. The parking lot entrance is behind the museum off West Walnut street. The front door is the main entrance, though the accessible entrance is at the rear of the house. It's important to note that only the first floor is actually accessible (there's no elevator), though there is a virtual video available on the first floor for the second and third floors. There are public restrooms on the first and second floors, though it should also be noted these are not wheelchair accessible. The museum is open Tuesday-Sunday from 1-4pm. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for K-12, and free for under age 5. The museum is a Blue Star Museum - this means active military and family members get in free from Memorial Day to Labor Day. They do have periods when they close - so checking their website is always a good idea just to be sure. The Seiberling Mansion can be rented for a maximum of 25 people. Rental rates on the website. The adjacent Elliott House is also available. While I always lament not having full access to places, with historic locations it's understandable and expected that access isn't going to be perfect. This is beautiful to see, though I'm not sure I can give it a full thumbs up for those with mobility issues since entry is $10 and you really only get to access one of three floors. That said, the virtual tour is pretty cool and the building itself is wonderful.

Located just down the road from the golf course and Selma, Bailey's Place has been beautifully landscaped to hold events, wedding ceremonies, etc. I was visiting here for a wedding. It's a gorgeous setup with an arbor, that the bride and groom got married under. There was seating set up in front of the arbor for guest. Behind the arbor was a cabin, that can be used for wedding party to get ready. But also can be used for receptions or having the wedding in. I believe this was the backup if it had rained. There isn't necessarily a parking lot, but a grassy area this is designated for parking. And lots of trees for shading.

He came down and told us that we could bring the 8 year old up if we sat in the hallway but it seated 4. Our scout carried a chair upstairs for our 5th party. We waited another 8 min. No one came . After 10 min. We prepared to leave . A server said, " are you leaving?". Yes! And we left. This was a Friday night experience. The server was there by herself. She was intending to cook-serve and bar tend. I wish this place the best. It's adorable. Since I can't judge the food or really the service, my suggestion is to call ahead and see if they are staffed and ready.

I had brought a friend with me and we both needed to get out of our houses and just have fun and relax. We bought our wrist bands which were $20 each. And not kidding there were only like 6 rides. We played some games first. Those were ok. Had some laughs of how terrible we were. Then a little while later we started on the ride called the graviton. That was good. But none of the workers were smiling. Didn't talk , just sitting there acting like they've just worked a factory job of 10 hours. We then waited in line which took close to 10 minutes for the guy to show up. But that wasn't even the worst part. We go to another ride ....sort of like the octopus I guess. But there was a small family before us. They go in. So I walk up show the guy my bracelet and walk a little past the gate so my friend could show his bracelet. This worker then had the nerve to give me the nastiest look ever and say "excuse me.. where the hell do you think your going " .. I was puzzled. I was like "umm, showing you our wrist bands . He THEN said, come back through the gate. I was like ok. Trying my hardest not to get angry because then that's just ruin everyone's day. He's like " don't you walk off unless I tell you what to do. Here I am. A 23 year old woman. And this guy is definitely not my parent. I was about to explode on his a**. I held back. Keep my mouth shut. Trying to breath. My friend was looking at me like oh my god this is ridiculous. This guy literally told us where to set. We climbed into the seat. Guy came around a minute later to put the belt on and raise the Saftey bar. He told us if we drop anything that he's keeping it. And he was being dead serious. I was biting my nails trying to keep cool. Another girl. Maybe 16-17 came. She was excited to sit with her friend , so she kinda skipped passed the gate. And this guy FOR REAL. KICKED HER OUT. Everyone was getting angry. After the ride. We got some food. Which wasn't any good. Other than I got a snow cone and she piled mine high. And I got cherry flavor. That made me feel a bit better. But honestly. I will never be going back there. A lot of workers mistreating customers. Oh. I also forgot. We went on the Mardi graw or however you spell it.
