(It looks like Mild Fence has changed its name to Montana Fence.) Mild Fence installed the fence around my home before I owned it. So when it needed repairs, I felt they were the obvious first choice to try out. I brought some pictures of my fence problems to their Kalispell location and spoke with one of the gentlemen at the front desk. I know how busy contractors and service providers currently are in the Flathead Valley but the staff member was very nice and patient. Ultimately he steered me towards a DIY repair, citing the amount of money I would save, then walked me through how to properly complete the job. Rather than nicking me for a fencing job, Mild (Montana) Fence provided me with great service at no charge. The fence repair is complete and (if I do say so myself,) looks pretty darn nice! I must have gotten the same estimator that Eden got. Same story. Waited 3 weeks for the estimator and got the bid later which was not what I asked for. Rough estimate went from $1100. to $2000. for a gate in my existing fence. Still haven't answered me as to why the bid was so much higher for less work than I inquired about. They are very busy and don't seem to care about your fencing needs. Rude and non-responsive. read more

I began to replace the fencing in my back yard in Kalispell,stained it with Olympic Stain, about 4? years ago at my rental property and finished the rest about 2 years ago likewise stained. Two gates were also installed. I had a small budget so I had Mild do the worst first. I live in a different state right now due to work but I travel home a couple of times a year. The first year , within months, the first sections of the stained fencing began to warp, twist , and split. The 2nd phase was worse. My fence was actually warping away from the cross pieces and popping the nails. The cross pieces on the gates had also popped off. K called them and asked them to come and fix it. A person came out in a few days and I would never have seen him if I hadn't been working on my deck. I showed him the damages and he was not very nice about it, told me some of it was normal???, and asked me when we had stained it.."within 2 weeks," I said. He acted like I was an idiot (I've built a few things in my life and know about lumber) . I was told that these fence boards are always wet/damp when installed! As if its a normal thing! I told him that I could have purchased lumber from a box store and it's DRY. I asked him why its not stored in a dry place and he said that Mild Fence gets them wet! ...and they leave them outside all year...no drying at all. They don't have a covered area to keep the lumber dry! After several thousand dollars of my money was spent, I was mad and very disappointed. They came out twice and replaced the bad wood, and reattached the cross pieces. BTW I specifically told them in the original order that I did not want "dog eared" ends. Guess what I got! In the Spring we will move home back into this house. I'm hoping its not worse. It looks awful! I want to face the entire fence now but can't afford it. :-)So, just a heads up. My fence looks like the original crap they took down. I will not ever use Mild fence again nor recommend them. read more

No, No, Nope, No. Called to get an estimate on a small fence job, gate, etc. He came out, looked at the job and said he would e-mail me an estimate in a few days. Never got it. I had to call the company and find out what happened. Said he had the wrong e-mail (Yeah, right.) Anyway, finally got sent a crude drawing that looked like a 2 year old did it, and a way overpriced estimate. Chicken scratch. I would never recommend this company. read more

They offer free estimates if you can get one. I brought drawings with rough layout of 10 acre property into there office. I spoke with Jim Ritter. He provided a quote the next day on the 18th and shortly afterwards revised quote. Unfortunately, neither included labor (installation). I drove back spoke with Jim the next day. He said someone would come out on Tuesday 24th and see site. I told him that would be great. Gentleman showed up on time with my drawing in hand. He never left my driveway. He was personable and said that installation crew would confirm all when they came out. He said he would email me quote with labor by the 26th sept. I called on Friday the 28th and yesterday as well. I also sent Jim an email asking where quote was, no response. I guess they are not interested in my roughly 2600 Lf of fencing. Oh well, I'll be calling Boundary Fence today. read more

Mild Fence installed a vinyl fence around our yard. Everything went well. The foreman was very knowledgeable and experienced and I noticed he was making sure things were done correctly. There were some large gaps at the bottom of the fence in a couple spots which they corrected. I don't know if they would have discussed the gaps with me if I hadn't asked as soon as I saw them but I assume they would have at some point. Some post holes were dug next to sprinkler lines but no sprinkler lines were damaged, which I appreciated. One sprinkler head was left covered with excess cement which was easily removed. Overall I'm very happy with the installation. Everyone I dealt with at Mild Fence including the estimator, office manager, and installers was personable, professional, and competent. read more

They came out and put the post in 2'1/2 feet closer to my home than what was estimated. Did not inform me that they moved it. Then when they finally came back and put the panels in it was not level at all. On one end the view is blocked but going down the fence line it is half a foot lower, so this is a privacy fence. read more

Very unprofessional when I had questions about my quote. Hopefully you don't get Dale, because he contradicts everything that I was initially told by them when I initially made contact with them. Tells you one thing, then when it comes down to it, they won't stand behind what they said. Example: I walked across the street and talked to our neighbor, who is having them install her fence, about the initial process. She even mentioned they tell her one thing then do another. In her case, they keep telling her that they will be out to finish the fence by the end of the week, but two weeks have gone by and nothing for her but posts. they didn't glue the caps on my fence and a strong gust of wind too four of them and when I called them to ask if they glue the caps on the lady that answered the phone said she would have someone over that and glue them for me. Four hours later I get a call back from gentleman asking me what color fence it was and then told me that he couldn't do it today that it would either be tomorrow or sometime next week... After I called and meet for the cost to install a 12ft double gate, I received my overpriced estimate for 1595.00. I was in need to get it done so I decided to go with them. After a six week wait and calling them a couple times, they set the two metal post. Weeks later after calling them to see when they was going to finish the gate, they came out and installed the gate with the opening swinging the WRONG way, even though they had the drawing from their estimator. (facepalm) I called to let them know and they said they would come out to fix it. Two weeks later, they fixed it alright however, it looks very unprofessional. (double facepalm). I understand during this season of COVID contractors are booked out. What I didn't like is the very poor quality of workmanship coupled with their "I don't care" attitude. I would recommend you look elsewhere. I always try to buy and use locally however, I absolutely cannot recommend them....not even for a chicken coup. (triple facepalm) read more

We called mild fence to give us a quote for fencing our 1 acre lot with 3 rail fence. The man they sent out to give me a quote was so rude! He acted like I was the biggest inconvenience for him and he was disgusted to be bothered with us. He was so horrible, I told him I didn't need to stay and be treated this way and I cut the interaction short. He claimed we had to cut down all our trees for him to put a fence in and was all worked up about a stack of firewood, even tho there were no trees where the fence would go. The firewood wasn't in the way either, but if it was we would have moved it. He was absolutely horrible!! I'm not sure how someone that unprofessional can stay in business. Later, at work 2 other coworkers were complaining about having the same experience with mild fence. We hired Boundary Fence and they were courteous, polite, and did fast work. They beat or match anyone's price and they didn't have to cut down any trees or move firewood. In fact, they didn't even mention the trees or stacked firewood. (Neither were near the fence line) Mild advertises the most and are the most known in the valley but I highly recommend looking into Boundary Fence instead. read more
