When you walk in, the counter is usually filled with different pizzas available by the slice, and there always seems to be something new to try. You'll find everything from classic New York style slices to Sicilian, white pizzas, veggie options, meat loaded pizzas, fresh mozzarella and tomato combinations, specialty slices and some really creative options you don't see at every pizza shop. Everything always looks incredibly fresh too. And honestly, pizza is only part of the reason we love this place. Their lunch specials are one of the best values we've found locally. For $13.95, there is a rotating selection Monday through Friday with sandwiches, subs, wraps, salads and full pasta dishes. We recently tried the La Rustica sandwich with chicken cutlet, prosciutto, fresh mozzarella, roasted red peppers, pesto and vodka sauce on homemade focaccia. The sandwich was HUGE, packed with ingredients and came with a generous portion of fresh cut fries. We also tried the Shrimp & Crab Fra Diavolo, and this is where the value really surprised us. It was an entire plate of penne in a spicy marinara with jumbo shrimp and real lump crabmeat. They absolutely did not skimp on the seafood either. Getting a fresh seafood pasta dish like that as part of a $13.95 lunch special is pretty incredible. Beyond the specials, they have a huge menu with Italian dishes, pasta, subs, sandwiches, salads, appetizers and plenty of other options. Even something like their bruschetta is loaded with fresh tomatoes, big pieces of fresh mozzarella, herbs and olive oil. There really is something here for almost everyone. Another thing that keeps us coming back is how fresh everything tastes. The ingredients actually stand out instead of everything tasting like generic pizza shop food. Their breads are especially good, the portions are generous and the food consistently comes out looking just as good as it tastes. The service has also always been wonderful with us. Everyone is welcoming and friendly, and because we come in fairly often, it has become one of those places where you genuinely feel happy walking through the door. The inside has a casual Italian pizzeria feel but is much nicer and more inviting than your typical grab and go pizza shop. There's plenty of seating, the colorful interior gives it personality, and you can sit down and have an actual meal just as easily as you can stop in for a quick slice. If you haven't been here in a while, especially if you're judging it based on older reviews, I really think Margherita's deserves another visit. Last summer, we tried a few of the other places that were mentioned in various You Tube videos. We loved the crab cakes in all of them, and now we have to include Box Hill Pizzeria. Because we're in a pizzeria, we have to get a pizza. It was fine overall, despite not having spinach as a topping. To conclude, we haven't been here in years so it was great to revisit. Having lived in Maryland for years, I've become quite the crab cake connoisseur, and my wife being a Maryland native was all in to make the trek. It was quite a drive up to Abingdon, but definitely worth the trip. We waited maybe 7 to 10 minutes to be seated, which was nothing on a busy day. Once at our booth, service was fast and super pleasant. One cool touch is their self-serve soda and beverage dispenser, cups are right there, and you can grab your own refills of sodas and water without ever waiting on a server. The Colossal Crab Cakes are generous in size, packed with good lump crabmeat, and light on filler. Is it the single greatest crab cake I've ever had in my life? No. But if this was someone's first introduction to an authentic Maryland crab cake, they would be blown away. It's high quality, fresh, and consistent. My wife noted the seasoning in the binder had a slightly distinct flavor profile from what she usually expects, but we both cleaned our plates and enjoyed them thoroughly. The Greek Salad came with my platter, and the portion was massive. We split the single salad between the two of us, and it felt like eating two full-sized side salads. Fresh greens and great dressing. The French Fries were Hot, golden, and crispy on the outside with a soft, pillowy interior. Generous portion that paired great with the cakes. A very strong 4-star experience (bordering on 4.5). They have their system down to a science. Whenever we find ourselves back up in Harford County and craving a reliable, colossal crab cake, Box Hill is an easy pick, and next time, I'm trying the pizza.
