    Christmas at the park

This is seriously one of my favorite parks in San Antonio. Milam is a unique park, a definetley urban park & I believe a nice glimpse of San Antonio culture. Milam is situated in an interesting spot on one side there is a luxury high rise, to the other a bustling hospital, to the other a vibrant market, mercado & it's last side is a stop for the cities trolley's. You can thus imagine the scene if you will at Milam. A young entrepreneur from across the street walking his dog, the tourists taking a break from the sounds of the market, a druggie getting released from the hospital or elderly couple waiting for the trolley. It's a colorful scene for people watching. Milam has a great playground with several jungle gyms & swings. There is a trail that borders the park that doubles as a dog walking trail with several spots with doggie bags. In the center of Milam is a massive gazebo. It is usually overrun by various people of the homeless nature catching a siesta, but they have never bothered me or my daughter. There are also beautiful sculptures throughout the park telling of TX history. You usually find at least one vender selling ice cream & drinks, pushing around a cart or ice chest. During Fiesta Milam literally becomes home to several people, who camp there for good spots for the parades. My favorite times at Milam were bringing my daughter there & catching the most unusual conversations with the passerby's. Great place to take a walk, people watch & kill some time with the kids.

Beautiful small park close to the alamo. There isn't much in terms of free parking but it was clean and quiet. Great place for a race.

The park itself includes multiple sections for all ages including the main playground which was designed to be an inclusive space and follows the American Disabilities Act standards for public playgrounds. A new toddler play area which is perfect for babies and toddlers. There is also the Union Pacific splash pad which is only open during certain months of the year, so make sure to check their calendar for hours. They also have a sand play area, as well as another section with small games like ping pong, chess and many more games. Overall, this garden/park offers a wide range of outdoor activities for people of all ages. I've been taking my kid here since he was born and as he is growing and exploring new areas of Yanaguana I can truly see how well thought off this park is. To all the locals that don't travel to downtown too often, I would definitely recommend giving this park a chance before winter comes. Also, for all the tourists coming with little ones that need the space to run around for a couple of hours, this is most definitely the spot for you!

There's separate picnic tables by the Kimpton hotel side that's great for a quick meal too. Lots of splash pads and shaded areas with chairs for the parents to watch from a distance. Bathrooms aren't super clean but I think there's other spots less frequented where babies/toddlers can go for a quick change of clothes. Parking is going to be a challenge on the weekends but paid parking isn't too far away.

The paths themselves are not difficult at all and plenty of spots to stop and sit at if needed. They have this pond in the middle of the park that had so many ducks and turtles. It was a nice view and enjoyed it very much. I saw many people there with picnics and also someone doing yoga in front of this building i thought was cool. They had these really cool korean buildings/monuments that someone build (artists from Korea but look up the city parks for more details). You can't step inside them but very beautiful to look at. For sure a place worth visiting to just sit and relax at if you like.

They have a half mile loop that you can take around the pond. The pond is cute and it had ducks. I like the Korean pavilion located by the pond. You can go there for a quick walk or do a few laps around the half mile loop. You can also take your food and have a picnic under the shade of the trees. Parking is available on site and there's plenty of it. The entrance is on one side and the exit is on the other side. There are restrooms available on site, but I didn't use them, so I don't know if they were clean. I would definitely return when I want a short walk in a shaded park.

Whether walking/hiking/biking, be prepared to be captivated by your surroundings and also out of breath from all the movement. I can only imagine what this park is like in the summers with the hot sun scorching on you. According to some reviews, there is a tower that gives panoramic views of SA. Unfortunately I could not reach this tower as I was pressed for time. But i did get quite the workout as I trekked along the unpaved trails and soaked in the views of plants, trees, and the wildlife. Additionally, there's a covered pavilion and rest rooms at the parking area of the park. And plenty of parking. This is worth visiting when you're in the SA area; just make sure you've got proper footing and bugspray!
