I had reached out Mona WAY in advance to snag a spot at the Prickly and signed the contract to rent the space. About a month prior to the event, we solidified all the details with Mona and Ines. We had hired several vendors to come in with food, decor/ balloons and a bar service. The party went off without any issues and the guests loved the location. Mona and Ines were delightful to work with and put all my questions at ease. We had about 45-50 people at the party, which was a great number of guests for the site size and room to move around and so forth. If you are looking for an intimate backyard, feel event, with a cool barn, atrium and beautiful plants everywhere, look no further, book Prickly.

The first weekend of every May, the Sacramento Cactus and Succulent Society hosts a HUGE succulent…read moreshow and sale at the Shepard Garden and Art Center in McKinley Park. Entry is free. This year, the hours are as follows: Friday, May 5: 1-5pm Saturday, May 6: 9am-4pm Sunday, May 7: 9am-3pm This event is extremely popular, and draws large crowds every year. This year has been no exception. When I arrived, it was just past noon on Friday. There was already one couple ahead of me in line, and, within a couple of minutes, there was a couple standing behind me, as well. Pretty soon, the line was wrapped all the way around the parking lot. Right by the front entrance, a folding table had been stacked high with cardboard boxes for shoppers to fill up with plants. I grabbed a box large enough to hold several plants, because I was hoping to take a bunch home. If you love succulents, this show is really a must see. All of the most experienced cactus and succulent growers in the area bring their best plants to put up for sale. The entire garden center is filled wall to wall with exotic and flowering cacti. It's incredible. The succulent sale has something to offer for everyone, from $1.50 haworthia rosettes to $300 collector plants, and everything in between. Artists sell their homemade pottery from booths around the building, and there are even pre-made succulent arrangements available (which I think would make a great Mother's Day gift). I noticed LOTS of rainbow cacti this year, and most were around $15-25, depending on the size. While each vendor is set up in their own area, there is just one checkout near the exit. So, you don't have to worry about paying each individual vendor. All of the growers are super friendly and easy to talk to. I've gotten lots of great tips from them over the years. For example, it was a farmer from the sale who first told me that oik aloe thrive with red lava rock top dressing, which I have also found to be true. I ended up taking home bunches of succulents. Specifically, some of the plants I brought home included an aloe delta dawn, haworthia baccata, haworthia resendeanna, lithops royal flush, rebutia pygmaea, notocactus rudibueneker, stenocactus phylacanthus, and several others. (Only about half were labeled with names.) I look forward to this sale every year. I'm super happy with all of the cacti I found, and am already looking forward to next year's sale. Nothing personal against North Highlands =) I'm 41 years old and I've lived in Sacramento my entire life. I have been to a ton of tree lots all over the Greater Sacramento area since I was a kid. My family and I went here last year for the first time (due to Yelp Reviews only) and it's by far the best experience I've ever had. The tree's were all shaped nicely and the prices were reasonable. By far though, the best part was the customer service. All of the people working there were extremely friendly and helpful. A few different people greeted us when we first arrived. They offered assistance in finding what we were looking for. They were professional and courteous at check-out. They did a fresh-cut on the bottom of the tree, and removed some of the lower branches. Then they loaded it on my truck for me. If you want great customer-service and an enjoyable tree-picking-experience, and you don't mind the drive, I would highly recommend going here to get your tree.

The irony they wanted me to leave a review upon renting a space here…read more I have my stuff at Xtra Space Watt/Fruitridge Location and I decided to rent a space on Stockton Blvd because it's much closer to my house. Boy, it was not good. 1)I rented a 10x20. I measured it and definitely not exactly 10x20, it's a foot shorter and couple of inches short wide. NOT THAT BIG OF DEAL but.. 2)There are holes in the wall. I am surprised that they even rented this space out (see pictures). They knew it wasn't in good condition but rented to me anyway and it's just not my space that's in bad condition, it's multiple units... The other unit can look into my unit and even stick a hand inside. For a storage space with lots of rules, close earlier than others (8am-8pm) and charging $156 for 10x20 ish, this is disappointing. I am strongly considering cancelling and going somewhere else, we'll see. The only thing that's nice is that this is 5 minutes from my house and I can grab/drop what I need quickly. Staff is nice/ok, but in today's economy, shelling out 220 on the first payment for a place like this is dismal. Boo.
