Avoid at all costs. This place relies on its status quo with a few neighborhood customers and is highly unwelcoming to others. I've gotten raving reviews from my classmates about the place, so I decided to try it. So far I've been here 3 time. The first: between the antiques on the walls and engaging conversations they had with customers, I got a great vibe. When I was finally on the seat, things got a little quiet, perhaps because I was new. The cut was mediocre, but I'm not picky. The second: I gave them the benefit of a doubt and went back. Same exact experience. They asked me the same basic questions as though they had forgotten me altogether. No big deal, but the cut, once again, was mediocre at best. But again, they got the job done. The third and final: I am a very reasonable person but this is, without a doubt, the worst haircut I have ever gotten. The two sides were uneven. There was no attempt to fade the sides, resulting in a stairstepped line. Joe (the short one) left a small cut on my ear with a shaving blade. In the end, he left an absolute mess of trimmed hair on my face and neck, without wiping it off. I have enclosed pictures for review. The overall feeling was that they were unprofessional, unskilled, and unwelcoming to new comers. Short Joe was completely unresponsive when I asked "how are you?" Then he would proceed to take 15-second pauses at a time, as though reluctant to cut my hair. Worst of all, my seat was off center by about 20 degrees the entire time (I was directly facing the wall off to the side of the mirror). It would suffice to say that I will not be returning, and that those I know who are loyal customers will hear endlessly about this. read more

Brilliant haircut; extremely pleased. But for those 2% of customers who are interested in a straight edge shave: Don't Bother. The towel was great but the shave itself was miserable. It's as though no one is capable or willing to give a clean, close shave for $22 in 2018 anymore. So, I'd return for a haircut the next time I'm in town, with no hesitation. But they should stop advertising shaves. read more

Today was my 2nd visit, the first was with my kids, this time it was just me. I got a great haircut at a reasonable price, I'll be back!

This is by far the best place for a man to get a cut in Ithaca. It is one of those shops where you get "the whole experience". The walls are covered with memorabilia of Ithaca and the barber shop that has been there since the 60's. Family owned since at least the 80's. Great hours, open at 7am-530pm Tuesday-Friday and 6am-530pm Saturday. Closed Sunday and Monday. No appointments, so expect to wait half hour or so. As far as the price..."you get what you pay for". The cuts and shaves may be a little pricey for the average Joe(no pun intended), but it is worth it. Both the owner, Joe, and his partner (also Joe), do an excellent job at cuts (I cannot speak for the shaves). Anyways the cost when I went in today was 16 dollars for a haircut, 20 for a straight razor shave. 35 for both. I just found this place, but as long as I am in Ithaca, I'll be a regular. Writing this review on behalf of my husband. We were staying in Ithaca and he wanted to get an old fashion shave in the area. He's growing out his bread and is very particular about it. He said the owner was super nice and he could tell he has a lot of experience. He described the steps the owner took like oiling his face, putting a hot towel etc as great. Now with three chairs! A great barber shop, whose fault is that it's too busy. Now, with three barbers, I've never waited longer than one cut (n.b. walk-in only). A very popular shop with a eclectic mix of customers: kids, college students, working and retired guys (and gals too). A comfortable shop in a convenient location. Friendly, experienced, full-time barbers that genuinely like people. They're capable conversing on anything, not just a mono-culture of sports. Good food reviews, local news, and (bad) jokes. Excellent cuts every time No matter which of the three guys cut my hair I'm always delighted with the results - they're fast, funny and take the time to get to know you as well. It can get busy, so make sure to get there early as they don't take appointments. I'd say it usually takes about 40 minutes in total from the time I walk in, to the time I walk out. It's also cash only, so make sure to stop at the ATM first. The price for a regular cut is $18, which I feel is very fair for the quality you get. Your cut comes with a straight razor clean-up on the edges too, which is a nice touch. There's a definite family feel, and you'll often see kids getting a piece of candy after their haircut too. When guys ask me for a barber shop recommendation in Ithaca, this is always my first thought. read more

We stopped by Mikey David's last week to get some intel before making a commitment. Mr. David was nice enough to answer our quick questions while he was working, which he didn't have to do. If you've ever been to "one of those" shops, you'll be happy to know that Mikey David's only takes walk-ins. And with only six or seven seats for customers to sit in while waiting in the cozy space for a cut in one of two barber's chairs, you can kinda tell that they attract clientele who can take a hint: if have to stand, come back later. It just feels like a real mellow spot (probably because there's no tv). Mr. David and Mr. Tucci's qualifications were framed near their stations like you would normally expect from expert/master barbers. But the decor of their place told as much of a story about them as their licenses: vintage sports paraphernalia for hockey and college football fans; pictures of landscapes, a former barber shop owned by one of the barbers, and Rockwell's "Shuffleton's Barbershop"; old-school barber's equipment like double-edged razors adorning a mirror and a shaving belt on the wall; and other bric-a-brac (mostly barber-themed), some of which you'd think someone's wife or female relative persuaded them to hang in the shop. My son's cut was/is clean. The style reminded me of how they used to do it at the Y back in Mexico City (act like you know): listening to how much length my son wanted but cutting it in a way that brings out the best of one's hair texture and head shape thanks to years of professional experience. Shaping it up behind the ears and at the nape with a little shaving cream and a straight edge was a new one for me; but I was raised to tip, so how Mr. David did it wouldn't have mattered either way. Best place in Ithaca to get a men's haircut. Located in the Ithaca Shopping Plaza which features plenty of free parking. Joe David is the owner/operator and is an in-demand barber. Many customers wait for Joe to cut their hair. A second barber is on duty most of the day, and does a good job as well. Prices are competitive, service is excellent. I've been to some of the other shops in the area as a younger man, but I've been seeing Joe for my haircuts for years now. No need to look anywhere else. read more

I get my hair cut here. Joe and Joe are AWESOME guys and run a tight ship, do great hair cuts, price is good and the place has a great old school vibe. I've tried a ton of other barbers in Ithaca and none are better than these guys. By the way, the place is NOT dusty and the guys don't have foul mouths. Don't know if they are old either - who cares? I mean, I'm older than some people and younger than others. LOL. It IS a family place, I've seen lots of parents (moms and dads) bringing their kids in. My daughter comes with me and Joe gives her a lolly pop. (They don't cut her hair, but if I had a son they would...). Joe voluenteers to cut folks hair at the hospital too. what else can I say? My hair's been a bit of a mess of poorly grown in layers as a result of my last few cuts, so I went to Mikey David's to get it "reset". I didn't have to explain what I wanted too much, one look at my hair and he knew what needed to be done. The cut was quick, very clean, and the barber was extremely professional. And my hair looks much better now. I like this shop much more than the ones in Collegetown. It's a little more expensive: for a basic cut with tip I paid $20. read more

They don't remember how you do your hair and so cut it differently each time. I like the guys but have been disappointed with the cut the last couple of times i went there. By the time I realized that the barber didn't really know what he was doing, the damage had been done. This place would be fine only if you have one of a few standard short mens hair styles but don't expect them to understand any other styles. If you do have different hair or a different style than what they are used to, don't risk it. I went to Ithaca College for 4 years and got my haircut here all the time. Let me tell you, this place is a GEM. Not only are the haircuts at a fair price, but they it is the best haircut I ever had. Didn't have time in the morning to shave, no worries because they do a straight razor shave with the works for $5.
