I'm a firm believer in trying most things twice, in case the first experience is a fluke. However,…read moreafter three visits for three different services (1 keratin, 1 trim, and 1 blowout+ trim) it's now entirely evident to me that Color Me Red is not worth hours of sitting in a chair. I got my first ever keratin treatment by Stylist Potter before an event out of state. By the time I washed my hair, four days later, my hair was almost as curly as it was before the treatment. I called CMR later that day and was able to connect with the stylist, who said she was busy and would call me back. Two days went by before I decided to check-in again. I explained that I was out of town for a month and wasn't expecting a refund or any magic cure. I was also willing to send before and after pictures to clarify exactly how curly my hair was almost immediately after the treatment. Rather, i explained, I called because wanted to see what products I could use (other than the shampoo and conditioner I was up-sold) to preserve my treatment. During this second call I was again met with "I have your number and I will call you back..." That call never came. A $360 expense should have lasted longer than a week. At the very least, some follow-through with customer contact should have been made. Was it inexperience? Or was the stylist uneducated about the product? For reference, I went to a stylist at Transformations in Ithaca who listened to my CMR experience, and understood what procedural error was made based on my description of how the CMR stylist did the treatment. As of today, I've never had any other Keratin treatment last less than 11 months. In other visits to Color Me Red for a "trim" and one blowout with a trim I walked in with shoulder length hair and walked out with a bob I never asked for. I probably should have said something in the moment, but there's always that bit of anxiety as a woman of color especially in a yt salon. During both visits I was told it would be just an inch, yet once I was spun around to look in the mirror I saw a trim of 4 inches or more. It was never brought to my attention that I would need such an extensive cut, especially when I regularly get trims, so my ends aren't split. It's disappointing to feel like someone is entitled to doing whatever they think looks good versus listening to a customers preference for a short trim. Rating 1 star because the stylists are decently friendly... although one does love to rant a little too much about how her adult daughter hates making friends with other women?? Tldr; Color Me Red is not worth your money. There are better high-end salons that have stylists who are actually knowledgeable.

The atmosphere is relaxed and far from being pretentious. As far as my manicurist Krystal's skill, she is so accommodating with scheduling and is really flawless in her application of product for gel nails or dips. I give the salon five stars and, of course Krystal, is the best of the best!!

**Late Review** I got my hair done this past December with…read moreKaitlyn. She seemed nice but after I left the salon I was left wondering why she did such a poor job on me, I've seen photos of her work and of the wonderful colors she has done as being the color specialist of the shop. Since December, I've still been a bit disturbed as to why she let me leave the salon with hair that I disliked more than when I came (I actually wish I had my normal hair back, as it was much better before I sat down with her) I had red hair dye all over my forehead.. my ears.. the back of my neck.. my cheeks. I sat in my car and cried like a little girl because why would you do that.... I wished I didn't go in there and just kept my hair how it was. The color itself was not at all what I had wanted, after showing photos, etc. I understand not getting the EXACT shade of course, but this was just incomparable.. after asking how I'd like it styled and saying I would like just a regular blowout, I was disappointed with how she managed to do it.. I've seen blowouts on her portfolio.. I even do my own blowouts.. she could've handed me the styling tools and I could have done it myself if she didn't plan on doing a good job on me.. she left my hair super frizzy, and nowhere near a blowout at all. It was the day before Christmas, even after getting such disappointing service, I still tipped a lot. The only reason I chose this shop is because Tara's family is neighbors with my mother and I wanted to go to a familiar business. I wish the experience could've been better. In the photo, it is my hair just the day before seeing Kaitlyn, and then immediately after. It looks horrible. I only post this review now, because I think about this every day and wonder why she did such a poor job on me ? I am not a resident of the area anymore i live in NC for military and easily could've just waited to go back home after the holidays to get my hair how I wanted it. Her portfolio all had great styles.. that's the only reason I booked with her. But not on me unfortunately.

The first time I went the business was not open though I arrived during business hours according to Yelp. I had arrived on the Hindu holiday Karva Chauth. You might want to call ahead before you come, though keep in mind she probably has to leave a customer in order to answer the phone. Also, she has a limited range of conversational English, just a heads up. The venue sits across from Victoria's Secret as a standalone booth with one Esthetician, presumably the (co-)owner, attending to all customers. When I arrived I was the fourth customer on line, and had to wait approximaty 30 mintues, which may be fatiguing for some; her partner was kind to offer me their only seat. The Ithaca Mall does not offer free Wifi but my cellular signal was sufficient while I waited. Once seated I did Not feel that service was rushed. After an initial pass the Esthetician spent some time touching up both my brows. She'll hand you a mirror before you leave and you can point to anything you think was overlooked which you might wanted addressed. Cash is the preferred method of payment but I only had my debit card. I input my credit card number, expiration, CRV, and zip into the SquareUp App on her phone myself. There was the option to leave a tip within the app and choice between receiving receipt by text or email (my number automatically appeared once my card information was entered). Shortly thereafter I received a text containing a link to view my receipt. From the receipt you have the further option to rate your service experience. Great service and kind demur, I'll be back.
