1 STAR -- I strongly recommend avoiding Darien Plumbing…read more Darien Plumbing replaced the heat exchanger in our Navien heating system. After their work, the boiler began repeatedly malfunctioning with 110-01 exhaust blockage errors, a flashing red warning light, gurgling, and condensate drainage problems. We eventually called another plumbing company to determine what was wrong. Their technician contacted Navien Technical Support and inspected the heat exchanger. What he found was unbelievable: when Darien Plumbing replaced the heat exchanger, the factory-installed shipping plug had never been removed. The second plumber described this to us as a "largely amateur mistake" and was genuinely baffled by how it had happened. He explained that the shipping cap is so obvious that he had difficulty understanding how someone replacing the heat exchanger could physically install it and reconnect the system without noticing and removing it. He removed the plug, drained the accumulated condensate, reconnected the condensate tubing, and reset the boiler. The error cleared and the boiler returned to normal operation. And this isn't simply our interpretation of what happened. The second plumber documented the finding in his written service report: "The factory-installed shipping plug had not been removed during the previous replacement." We paid $525 to another company to diagnose and correct the problem. As bad as the workmanship was, what really pushed me to write this review was how Darien Plumbing treated us afterward. We contacted Kevin and explained exactly what had been discovered. Instead of apologizing, taking responsibility, offering to investigate what happened, or even showing basic concern, he was dismissive, argumentative, and extraordinarily unprofessional. His response was essentially that because another plumber had already corrected the problem, there was nothing he was going to do. That is unacceptable. Mistakes happen. Even serious ones. But when another professional identifies and documents a mistake associated with your work, I would expect a reputable company to at least investigate it and treat the customer professionally. Had Kevin simply said, "I'm sorry this happened. Let me look into what went wrong and see what we can do to make it right," I probably would never have written this review. Instead, we paid another plumber to diagnose and correct what that plumber described as an amateur mistake, and then were treated horribly when we brought it to Darien Plumbing's attention. I am attaching the independent plumber's written report, photographs of the repeated 110-01 errors, and a photograph of the factory shipping plug that was removed. I encourage prospective customers to look at the documentation and draw their own conclusions. Based on the workmanship we experienced and the complete lack of accountability afterward, I would never allow Darien Plumbing to work on our heating system again and cannot recommend this company to anyone.

A 40-yr old…read moreKohler cast iron Jacuzzi tub on the 2nd floor developed a leak in one of its parts and it damaged the ceiling in the family room below. I was faced with having to remove and replace it or fix it. Because it is cast iron, removal would have necessitated thousands on repairs and renovations, fixing it was our preference. The problem was finding a qualified guy knowledgeable about jetted tubs, particularly dated ones like ours. This proved to be a daunting exercise. I lost count of emails and texts to retail stores and spa installers. I then wised up and contacted the main customer service number for Kohler and asked if they had any certified technicians in my local area. They said they have 2 and I followed up with Rob because, frankly, he reached out to me first. AND I'M GLAD I DID. He is super knowledgeable about these things and has a ton of experience and has seen it all. After I described the problem area, he asked me to send a pic of it. It was impressive that he was able to identify exactly what the part in question was, what its function was and then pinpoint the most probable cause of the malfunction. And then, refreshingly, he very clearly detailed what his charge would be for coming out and do the repair (so no surprises). We are quite a distance from him and so he added that there would be an additional charge for the travel time and gas. All in, his charge for the work done and additional travel was very reasonable. On top of that, he showed up on time and got right to work - and after a couple of tests he fixed the cause of the leaky part (and verified the repair by filling the tub). He wanted $240 just to come to my house and look at my the unit, which seemed a bit steep. Fearing that it might be a difficult repair due to location, costing me even more money, I sent him pictures of the unit to help him out. After he looked at the photos, he told me that the original installer of my unit "should be shot," and then said, "No wonder you wanted a free estimate...you deserve your contractor." He then accused me of trying to pull one over on him. His words: "You knew this was going to be a problem and didn't mention it when you wanted a free estimate. You knew there was very high likelihood that this was going to be a problem but chose not to say anything until you knew you were getting charged. You deserve your contractor. "BTW, telling you your contractor should be shot was for free." This is the kind of condescending treatment that my wife and I have grown to expect here in Westchester. We're a middle class family with a one and five year old in daycare, and sizable bills: we can't afford to throw money around. 30 years or 30 days in the business, you just shouldn't treat people with kind of disrespect.
