As luck would have it, the Hawaiian restaurant was closed, so a second Yelp search led us here. It is a cute little yellow building with a lot of charm. There wasn't anyone else there! That is just sooo wrong! We called in antipasta salad, garlic cheese bread, eggplant parm, sausage lasagna, and the kid grabbed 2 marionberry scones for Saturday breakfast. It was the young lady on the phone's first day and she did great! Everything was well packaged and the hot food was piping hot. The salad was cold and crisp/fresh. We didn't know our pasta came with bread, too. The bread is very good. So.Much.Bread. All the food was delicious and we have tons leftover for a second meal. We enjoyed everything. We drove it back to Newport and ate it at the beach because we needed our Friday dose of Vitamin O. I would totally get food there again. The breadsticks were great, we think that bodes well for their pizza being delicious too and will try that next time! Go try it! It is too good to miss and only 15 min away from Newport!

Thus, I've become pretty knowledgeable about the takeout options in the area, and there are several good ones, but my go to is a sandwich from Sea Gulp. On my first visit we arrived to find several other couples waiting on orders (it's clear this is where the locals go). It took some time to locate the order sheets as they are in a bin on a little table to the right as you walk in the front door, but it was empty. They utilize reusable sheets so had to clean some to get them ready for the next customers, just ask the cashier if you don't spot any. Anyways, once we placed our order it probably took 20 or so minutes for the sandwiches. Not too bad, but we were rarin' to get out to the beach, so it felt long! We did use the time to wander the store for other goodies and there is a lot to discover. Of course, they have the usual (and unusual!) snacks and drinks, but there are also games and souvenirs, and all sorts of supplies you might have forgotten you'd need for your beach day like towels, SPF, and toys. The employees were (and always are) very nice and once we got our sandwiches we headed right across the street (so convenient!) to D River parking and found a piece of driftwood on which to eat our dinner. I am not a particular lover of sandwiches, but theirs are darn good! My favorite is the Italian Sub with almost all the veggies, but I have tried the pastrami and turkey as well and liked them too. They've got a great variety of bread options and do breakfast sammies and burritos too. Now we just call and order about 15 minutes before we arrive and the timing works perfectly. For about $10 you get a fresh, big (honestly, I usually can't finish them) meal that will keep you satisfied and fueled for your sandy adventures. As they are so customizable it is a great way to get something everyone will be happy with. And since they are located in a convenience store you can pick up drinks, dessert, and or anything you might have forgotten. There is seating out front if you'd rather eat there. Oh, and they do have specials so make sure to check those out too.

I had the black bean quinoa burger and swapped the aioli for their vegan pesto -- absolutely delicious. Paired it with sweet potato fries and a hot tea, and the whole meal was just $21, which felt like a great deal. The waitress was really sweet and attentive, the atmosphere was cute and friendly, and I even had a beautiful view of the ocean and the bay while I ate. If you're a vegan who's okay with the smell of seafood being prepared around you, I'd definitely recommend stopping in. They don't have a ton of vegan options (I noticed a vegan pizza, the burger, and a salad), but honestly I'd come back just for that burger.

The menu stated they had been deemed the #1 chowder in the area, but I was chowdered out so I went with the southern fried chicken sandwhich which was topped with slaw, pickles and a sauce with fries on the side. When it arrived it was not as expected as it had the same batter as cod would for traditional fish n chips - not what i think of when i hear southern friend chicken, but when in rome. It was okay in itself but had entirely too much sauce. I included a Pic of the aftermath, and I promise you that is only what fell from it naturally, I didn't scrap or shake any of it off. But the chicken itself was hearty and cooked perfectly. The toasted bun was soft and paired nicely with it. The fries were okay. We opted for dessert to go, a marionberry crisp. This was very good and I recommend it.
