It was cold outside but comfortable inside. We both ordered the same thing - Canadian breakfast w large, freshly squeezed OJ. The serving size was just right for us. The poached eggs were so tasty - did not need salt or pepper, bacon is always good, just the right amount of pancakes and a little jug of maple syrup each to drench those pancakes in! Yum! Safe to say we demolished this in no time and left happy and full :)

Steve's Grill and Restaurant is a very interesting place for an outsider. As someone from…read moreMelbourne, I'm not too sure about the history of Steve's Grill or whether it is considered a high-society establishment, but it appears that is the feel that management is going for, and when I dined here, I experienced a gentleman wearing a tuxedo while dining with his wife! While the lights were dimly lit and the service attempted to be silver, Mr Tux still seemed out of place against the contrast of the fish and chip shop paper tablecloth and the Tasmanian working-class feel prevalent here. Digressing, quite simply put: the steaks here were grilled to perfection and incredibly delicious, the one staff member was highly competent and very nice (sadly I didn't get her name), and the cheese platter special for an amazing $15 was absolutely scrumptious. The drink glasses are incredibly small, so I would probably just go with water, unless you want to order three drinks for yourself just in order to get through your meal without quenching. Nothing let this place down, and I'd quite happily return the next time I'm in Launceston.

Hot smoked trout, prosciutto, olives, oozing brie, stuffed peppers, stuffed figs, etc. But this place looses major stars because the guy that runs the place was a nasty piece of work. I stayed at Mantra Charles and by default had my breakfast here. The restaurant wasn't big but the…read moretables and chairs were arranges with the comfort of the customers in mind. First impression of the menu was just so so as there weren't varieties. The service though did bowl me over as they are attentive and extremely polite. The restaurant serves breakfast by offering a Continental buffet spread and then an add on from an ala-carte menu. Day one of my stay, we had the Eggs Benedict with Smoked Salmon and the Banana Pancakes. When both dishes came, I was delighted by the food arrangements and the serving were big. The Banana Pancakes were fragrant and sweet (I had mine with caramel) and the pancakes were moist and soft to the taste. I have had some pancakes that had too much baking soda to make it fluffy it tasted chalky but these were fluffy enough and yet tastes good. The Eggs Benedict were good serving size and the bacon that came with it crispy on the edges. From the Continental spread, we had coffee and tea which are free flow and the tea had quite a fair bit of selections to choose from. There are also breads as well as fruits to complement your breakfast. As my stay was only for 3 days, I did not run out of selection for my breakfast options thankfully. If they could expand on their menu selections I would have given them full five stars. Still, I would recommend them for breakfast, lunch or dinner anytime as I believe their existing food and services would still make up for the lack of varieties.
