The staff at Mike's camera is extremely helpful. Most recently Joe and Scott, as well as the rest of the staff, took their time to make sure everyone that attended the class at Rambler Ranch had all their questions answered and quite honestly made it a great experience. Knowledgeable and very helpful. I am looking to upgrade and no doubt will be looking to Mike's Camera to help me on that journey as well. read more

Visited the store on Black Friday and again on Saturday. I had a great experience and Tom Davis was great to work with both times...he took the time to show me several different lenses and give me a quick tutorial on each. Tom answered all of my questions. He hooked me up with a new tripod too. All in all it was a great experience! Thanks Tom and Mike's Camera! read more

Mikes camera is beyond knowledgeable and their staff is truly passionate about what they do. Joe is the most patient and great camera sales associate compared to other stores. I worked with Tim at the Mikes Camera Lone Tree location many months ago and he absolutely had me sold on the Sony Alpha 6000 as my first SLR. Unfortunately, at the time my finances were not quite at that level so I sat on the idea and did my research in the mean time. I finally returned May 14th, 2015 to find that while Tim had retired, Joe was extremely helpful and clearly driven and knowledgeable sales associate who was eager to answer any questions I had. Not to mention, he immediately sat down with me (due to my short stay in the area) to teach me all about several incredible functions that I now have on my A6000. I am one overly satisfied customer and I will say, Mikes Camera (from experience searching other camera stores nationwide) has everything to offer with some incredible deals! read more

Joe Klocek at the Lone tree location has been a tremendous help! I am a professional landscape photographer having to do a wedding shoot for the first time...Large scale wedding with lighting concerns...He has taken the time to show me what I need and how to use it ...this included bringing in my gear and setting it up then shooting in harsh and soft light....Thanks so much to the staff specifically Joe for all the help...now to practice and pray... read more

I have been to this store many times, Ive found that a few of the representatives were very nice and knew exactly what they were talking about but there are definitely a few that seem to not enjoy their job and make the experience a bit of a hassle when working with them. Overall I am very very satisfied with this store and I love everything about it besides the few workers I've run into. The quality of their printed photos are perfect and professional. I have found that their sale prices are also on par with anywhere else you might find. I couldn't recommend this store more if you are new or a professional photographer. If they would improve customer service at all times and not just some of the time this store would be a 5 star. read more

I've visited Mike's Camera numerous times (at different locations) and each time I've had a great experience. Most recently Tom at the Lone Tree store was really helpful and patient with me while I was selecting a new flash and lens. He spent quite a bit of time with me, answering all my (many) questions and helping me though my decision. read more

I can't say enough positive things about our experience at Mike's because of Joe K. My husband surprised me with a new camera and several lenses for my birthday. He had several informative visits with Joe explaining what the specific needs were. Joe listened and Gave his honest opinions and showed several options for a beginning use then all parameters we could go thereafter. This guy really knows his stuff! He went further to let us stop by after the holidays and gave us some beginning tips as well as ideas for classes he thought would be beneficial given our needs. Joe's knowledge is extensive but he is a modest guy so you don't feel any question is too silly. Thanks Joe! Your service was impeccable! read more

Went to Mike's for a compact travel camera as my wife and I are planning a trip to the Galapagos Islands and I wanted a small, lightweight camera to carry rather my usual SLR hoping to limit bulkiness during shore trips out of concern for damage during possible wet shore landings. I worked with Tom Davis who happened to have good knowledge of the Ecuador environment and specific needs for photography there. Tom showed patience during my constant barrage of questions and provided good guidance among several manufacturers and models. Highly recommend Tom and the staff at Mike's. read more

Joe K. At the Lone Tree store is extremely helpful and patient. He is very knowledgeable and experienced, as one would hope to find in a specialty store. While Joe can deal with me on one level (professional/high end), he can turnaround and help a fledgling looking for their first point-and-shoot camera. If you visit this location, definitely ask for Joe. read more

Joe was so awesome! Gave me more information in 1 hour than I could find doing hours and hours of research!

We recently bought a camera at the Mike's Camera up in Thornton and I posted a review for that but wanted to also add a note for the Lone Tree store because the salesperson (Joe Klocek) that we were so impressed with will be working out of the Lone Tree store starting in Sept 2014... We purchased a camera (Panasonic FZ1000) and accessories at the Mike's Camera in Thornton this past weekend and wanted to write about our experience with our salesperson, Joe Klocek. When I called to ask if this camera was in stock (it's so new we were having trouble finding it), he was very friendly and helpful over the phone. Once we arrived he took such great care of us. This was a major purchase for us (over $1,000 with accessories) and we wanted to make sure it was the right fit. He was very knowledgeable and helpful in explaining various features and also in helping us look at other models/camera types to understand the differences. I think we ended up spending over an hour in the store, trying the cameras out and asking questions. Joe was infinitely patient, had a terrific sense of humor and very personable attitude. Truthfully, this is one of the best "sales" experiences we've ever had - we didn't feel any pressure from Joe which left us free to really try things out and ask lots of questions. As I said, we ended up buying the camera, a very high-end memory card and a camera bag. Joe took awesome care of us and we would definitely seek him & Mike's Camera out for our future needs. read more

I am so impressed with Mike's Camera! My husband and I have spent months researching cameras and where to go to get the best deal. Or search led us to Mke's, and we walked into the store with a purpose. Tim listened to our wish list but then he asked a key question: what did we want to use this camera for? And everything changed. We wound up with a totally different camera than we thought we wanted, all because he happened to ask us the question we thought we already knew the answer to. Now we have a lightweight, portable, high quality camera to learn on, and we couldn't be happier with our purchase. We had an excellent experience at Mike's and would recommend the staff for listening to you and answering your questions. read more

I recently took a couple of their classes and they were a really great experience! The classes consisted of an online webinar, real-life photo shooting, and an online critique after the shoot. They have done a really nice job taking the before shoot/after shoot portions online and keeping things safe for the hands-on part of the classes. Joe and Scott do a great job with the online parts and they along with the other instructors provide for a fun experience during the in-person shooting time. read more

I'm so glad we stopped in today. First, we updated our passport photos. Great pic, quick service. Then we intended on asking a few questions as part of our research on a new camera but felt informed enough to make a final decision. Joe spent nearly two hours with us to make sure we knew what we wanted. We explained that we live in the mountains so we wanted to capture wildlife and landscape, lightweight enough for everyday use and something that would work for shaky hands. He had us test a few, explained features in language we could understand and set us up with great accessories. Because we bought with Mike's rather than an online retailer (same price, btw) we can join their variety of photo classes including a class for our specific brand of camera. We also received some in house photo printing extras but am excited about the damage insurance (biotech we don't need it). The personal service given was well worth our time and Joe was uber knowledgeable and friendly. Will shop with them again. read more

I've shopped at Mike's camera in Park Meadows for years, however my last experience there was above and beyond what it was before. Simon Watkinson helped me with my purchase. I was thinking about a new lens for my old Canon 40D and ended up buying a new Sony A9 with two lenses. Simon's recommendation was spot on. I have two high school boys who play multiple sports and I've never taken such good shots of them before. Simon was available for me to call or text if I ever had any questions. He really took an interest in my learning curve transitioning from the Canon to the Sony. He also checked in on me many times to see how I was doing and how I could improve my shots. He's one of the best there at Mike's camera. read more

I have frequently visited Mike's Camera for years now. I have always spent time talking with the sales staff and found them to be knowledgeable and friendly. That is until I met Simon in the Park Meadows store. I credit Simon for helping me take the next step in not only knowledge but in my equipment choice. The conversations I have with Simon have truly made the difference and I find him engaging and interested. His background clearly shines through and he instantly establishes high credibility. Simon is my go-to guy for advice, verification of my knowledge and constructive criticism of my work. Simon makes the Park Meadows store worth the visit. I can't count the number of times Simon has gone out of his way to get me a product or lend his advice. In the world of professional photographers, Simon is one of the best. read more

I have mixed feelings about Mike's. It's just okay. I typically use this store for prints although I did buy my camera there many years ago and went in recently to have it cleaned and tuned up because it was having some minor issues. It was rather expensive, and the employee just handed it back to me without any explanation of what they did, what they found that needed repair, nothing. I asked, but he just told me he didn't do it so he didn't know. It's been pretty much functioning the same as before I brought it in, except I paid $130 to have them look at it. So that was disappointing. I like to get prints there because they are good quality. I joined the photo club (not sure what it's called) because you can get discount prints, but you have to pay an annual fee to join. Honestly it's very inconvenient. It's ONLY on Tuesdays and you have to do it in the store-- not online. So I have to get there after work and before the store closes to do something I could very easily do at home and then get there again the next day to pick the prints up. In this day of online everything, I cannot believe there isn't an online option. Plus the prices even for the discount Tuesdays gone up a lot-- it used to be 10 cent prints and now it's 19 cents I think, and you only get a discount on 4x6. There are virtually no other (useful) benefits to the membership in my opinion. Service is hit or miss-- sometimes someone is there to greet and ask if you have questions, sometimes I get ignored. I don't usually mind, since I know what I am doing and just sit down and do it. But the whole point of going to a photo store rather than just Walgreens or doing them online is because employees should have some expertise, and that's kind of lost when you don't even interact with them. I'd love to support a brick and mortar local store, and I still go there because I haven't found better print quality and because I want to get my annual fee's worth out of that photo club I joined, but I don't really feel like I'm getting any benefit out of going there and it's rather inconvenient. I will probably stop going once that membership is up. read more

I have recently started taking the classes at Mike's and I have really enjoyed each experience. I have been sort of learning online and this class experience is really changing the speed at which I pick up photography, plus I think they are well priced. I also like the theme and variety of classes. I recently did the Macro Photography class led by Joe Klocek and loved it. It was a small class and I learned a bunch in the lecture portion and then when we were shooting Joe was super helpful in teaching me concepts I have been struggling with. I have a long list of classes I want to take there now. I have bought a number of lenses there and will likely buy my next body there. I enjoy the staff overall. read more

Just purchased my 2nd camera from Mike's. Have worked with Randy both times. I could have saved a bit by purchasing my camera elsewhere however, the honest advice, support, recommendations and overall service that Randy has provided has made me a better photographer. In addition, I have worked with the Mike's team at Cherry Creek..again, excellent service, good advice and always willing to help me find a solution...and not always the most expensive one. If I had gone to one of the big box stores, or on line...I would have received the same equipment I was looking for, but not the ability to go back in for troubleshooting, or suggestions. For that ability alone, worth the extra. As for processing, I have found that the Lone Tree location really works to achieve the right color. Their equipment is up to date and the processors there have always provided good feedback. So close to getting 5 stars on this one....am sure it will happen after my next visit. read more

I went to Mikes Camera after a disappointing visit to Wolf Camera, followed by a less disappointing but still unsuccessful visit to Office Depot. Upon arriving at Mikes I was greeted and asked if there was anything that I was looking for and if they could direct me. I was looking for wide format like 13x19 paper, and if possible higher quality fine art paper. I didn't catch the sales person's name but he took me to their isle with the paper and said these were the ones they had available. He then left me alone to make my selection. After picking a few items out I checked the prices and found them to the a little more than what I was seeing online but still not overly expensive. I picked up the ones I was going to be trying out and went looking at the other products they have inside the store. While walking around the sales person stopped me again and asked if he could hold the papers I was carrying around so that I could continue browsing. I let him put the papers at the counter so I could look at the frames and later tripods. The person who said the selection is similar to Best Buy for tripods must be shopping at some super special Best Buy that has a huge selection of tripods. Every single best buy I have been two has somewhere between two to five tripods and nothing I would feel comfortable leaving a few thousand dollars' worth of gear sit on. You are out of luck if you want to get a head on your tripod. In fact ask a Best Buy employee if they have tripod heads or joystick head and I am sure that you will get a blank stare or someone who just leaves you standing next to music CD's or appliances. Believe me there are things that Best Buy does and has and there are things they don't and to compare them to a camera store is well just stupid. The selection of available in store products at Mikes Camera is leaps and bounds above electronic stores. I also found that they have a bigger selection than Wolf Camera also. Shopping at this location has been nothing but great experiences. I assume that it is the days I have been visiting and the people who are working those days. If can see how people could feel ignored because the staff does tend to take a somewhat hands off approach unless you are in spending some money. But I am sure if you get a person and ask them some questions you will get the help you are looking for. read more

Along with other reviewers - I really want to like Mike's Camera. I try very hard to support local business whenever I can. At this point I might as well just order my camera gear online from B&H. I stopped in at Park Meadows store looking for a specific lens - as I am always told - they don't have the lens in that store but can get it to me in a few days. I asked that they order it to be delivered to the Colorado Springs store (I already knew that they didn't have one in stock) - they said they could do that and took my name and number. The gentleman I spoke with at this store was very kind and helpful he stated that it would be at the CS store by Wednesday. He also offered to give me the warranty on the lens at that time - I wish I had taken him up on that offer but thought I would just purchase it all at the same time. On Wednesday, I called the CS store around 10:30 - truck had not arrived - should be here by 1:00 and we will be sure to call you as soon as it gets here. At 2:00 I called again and yes my lens was in. I never received a call from them! I drove to the store (an hour away) and Greg told me my lens was there, retrieved it and walked over to check me out - didn't show me the lens, or talk to me about the lens - seemed in a hurry to get me out of the store - there were very few customers in the store at that time. Another gentleman (I believe the manager) totally ignored me. Mind you - not that it should matter - but this was a purchase of over $2000. I told Greg I was also possibly interested in purchasing another lens and asked if I could see the lens I was interested in and compare 2 different brands - Nikon and Sigma Art. Of course, he didn't have the lens I was interested in (but could get it to the store in a couple of days) but showed me the build of another Sigma lens (I own one - I know what they look like). I asked for his expertise in the different brands since they were priced very differently - he really didn't have any knowledge about the lenses. I told him I would purchase this $1000 lens elsewhere. He then proceeded to ring up my purchase and tried to take the credit card out of my hand. Not once did he offer to sell me the warranty on the lens - I had to ask for that myself. He also did not give me info on classes or any thing else that might encourage me to continue shopping at Mike's. I was seriously perturbed at this point and choose to purchase my lens and leave the store. Why can't you as a local store carry Pro quality camera gear? Even one each of the most popular items would be helpful to those of us wanting to purchase. I also expect outstanding customer service and knowledgeable staff in a store that only sells photography related items. I might as well save myself the drive time and gas and just order things online - I'm not getting any expertise from anyone at Mike's anyway!! Very disappointed! read more

Just got the hubs a Nikon D5500 for his birthday and referred him to this store for accessories as this location was recommended by a friend. Bad decision. Walked in and the staff ignored him completely. Other customers walked in and immediately got help. My husband did not get an initial greeting or any assistance. Embarrassing. Great camera store! They must be doing something right because they are opening up new stores while other camera shops are struggling and closing down. They have good prices. Unimpressed with knowledge base of the staff. I purchased a Tamron 16-300 after being reassured that the lens was a "top seller" and was "getting good reviews". Turns out that the lens is cheaply made for the price and appeared to be falsely advertised, as my canon kit lens had a slightly better range at 250 mm versus the Tamron at 300 mm. How on earth did the staff at Mike's camera not know this, you ask? Because they very likely weren't aware of the lens' capabilities. Overall the staff will not be terribly helpful with technical details so you will have to do your own homework... and of course it's always a good idea to be an informed consumer. So, if you know exactly what you want then this place is the Walmart of camera shops and thus will likely will have the product(s) you need, otherwise shop elsewhere. read more

Talk about crooks! I gave Mike's a second chance this past weekend. My Nikon has a bent lens bezel and I would like to get it repaired. However, they want $35.00 for somebody to look at it to give an estimate! The counter person said they were not qualified to talk about repair estimates and that "the repair guys in the back" need to take a look, but for them just to look at it costs $35.00. A simple one minute glance should have done the trick, but for $35.00 for them to tell me how much more I would need to pay them turned my stomach. What a rip-off! That's like going to a restaurant and being told you need to pay $35.00 to look at a menu. This was my second and last time to Mike's. The first time I needed some NiCad batteries. They wanted $72.00 for 4 batteries which I bought on-line for $9.00 (yes, the exact same ones). If you don't want to get ripped off, don't go to Mikes. read more

I'm glad I did not let the previous low ratings deter my visit to Mike's today, as I walked away with an amazing experience and a high quality camera. (Reading through some of the reviews, though, the comments were pretty picky and had little to do with buying a serious camera and spending the money to do so). Timothy immediately greeted us we came in the door and asked if he could point us in the right direction. I explained that I was looking for a "real" camera, and had probably settled on a Canon T5i with some lenses. He immediately took us to the camera counter, showed me what I had asked, and gave a couple comparisons. Right away he introduced himself as a Navy photographer with a BA in photography. He later showed us photos that he had taken (impressive). I liked that he established his credentials. He has a great sense of humor and an amazing knowledge of what it would take for someone like me (total novice who thought her iPhone 6 and Instagram made her an excellent photographer!) to get into photography. Now, some may consider his advice "upselling," however, I did not take it that way, as my research was somewhat limited, and he explained the difference in quality. I'm a big believer in the "you get what you pay for" philosophy. He explained the details of why one lens would be great for all-purpose, beginner and advanced learning and shooting. Then he recommended a lens filter to protect our expensive new lens, a storage card, a warranty program, and a camera bag, along with the big coupons/discounts you get with a camera purchase here. After he rang us up, he spent the time to set the camera up for me, explain how it worked, including what NOT to do, and recommended classes for me to take (2 are complimentary, plus a 30 minute consultation). Hands down, this is customer service at its finest. We had visited a Best Buy a week ago, and the dude probably couldn't even spell "camera." I'd also looked at Amazon (where I purchase a LOT of things), but I would not have been given the personalized advice that I needed. The prices are comparable to what you'd get online or in a big box store, where I wouldn't have received the knowledge and customer service that I did from Timothy at Mike's. For the investment I made, knowing that I can visit any of Mike's locations in the area for help is invaluable. I'm certainly glad I went to Mike's Camera, and even more grateful to Timothy, for helping a beginner (who thought she knew what she wanted!). It pays to shop locally. read more

This review is less about the store employees and more about corporate and film developing. The employees at LT that I have spoken to know their photography or are willing to accommodate their customers. If you don't care about film you might choose to ignore this review but film developing is one of those things store employees have no control over. It is indicative of how corporate works with customers. I took film that was taken in a toy camera so expect the unexpected and don't expect the same pristine images you would get with professional camera.. digital or film. However the second E-6 processed roll had the same huge scratch as the one processed several months before. The negatives have nasty color shifts and inconsistencies plus dirt. Not dust. Dirt. I have been transitioning to developing my own film and do not get any of this on my film so now I can see what would be from my camera and what would be the result of development. One roll had a brown cast which I now know is under-fixed film. Now, I know film is not as popular as digital. So given I am reentering the world the only reason to take this to a store that cares more about digital is to save money while experimenting. You don't save time because it can take anywhere from 3 days to 3 weeks. Bottom line: if you aren't able to protect a customer's film I think you should just stop doing it. It isn't as if you can replace it. So I contacted them by email along with examples of the crappy work. The store manager returned my money but corporate never even acknowledged my email. This is really the deal breaker. I would love to continue to shop local but this is an example where there no loyalty to customers. And I love photography of all formats. All of my digital cameras and most accessories have been purchased at mike's. My digital camera is just about ready to be upgraded. I I change brands (which I may) I will also be in the market for lenses. Let's face it. You don't shop brick and mortar looking for a good price. I will not be purchasing any of it at Mike's. read more
