not so good experience I brought our car in because the check engine light was on. I was informed that the issue was just a faulty gas cap that needed replacing. I paid $130 to have the car checked. After purchasing a new gas cap, the light remained on, so I called again and was told it would turn off on its own after some time. Nearly three days passed, and the light was still on, so I returned to have it turned off. During a call prior to my visit, I was assured it was only the gas cap, and that everything else had been checked. They reset the light, and it turned off. Trusting what I was told, I used the car on Saturday (aug 24), only for the check engine light to come back on while driving, and then the engine suddenly overheated. I had to pay for a tow. Another mechanic checked the car and found that the check engine light was actually due to a defective coolant tube. I feel like I paid $130 your business for nothing, and unfortunately it feels like a rip-off. $130 is not an easy amount for us to come by, and I expected a more thorough inspection of the car. The towing fee was also a financial burden for us, as we live on a budget. I hope that next time, the crew will conduct a more detailed inspection, such as opening the hood and really checking to avoid missing issues like a faulty coolant tube, instead of relying solely on a diagnostic machine read more

What an unbelievable experience! I think of going to the mechanic is like going to the dentist.... You're nervous, you don't know how much is going to cost, or if the people there care? I walked out of another shop because they told me that it would cost a $120 to look at my brakes and that would not be applied towards the job A friend suggested that I should try Mike's Automotive I gave them a call. They asked me if I could come right away and they would be able to look at it. Great service on registration renewal!. the holy federal office, timing is very important, as right now, they can be overloaded with cars to do minor work and renewals. If they are backed up, I usually just leave, come back a little later, and they get me right in. I came in to get new registration on an out-of-state car, which required a DMV visit, and they were efficient on both visits. read more

I've brought all our vehicles here for the past 15 years. They do a thorough review of your car or truck and don't do any work without your approval. They can replace almost anything on your car. I've replaced the fuel tank and almost everything under the hood on one car. On the truck, we had to replace the air conditioning. I've recommended other friends and coworkers to Mike over the years, and they continue to bring their cars here. This is the 2nd time I've taken a vehicle to Mikes's. The first time I just needed more coolant for my AC, Mike's charged me almost half of what the dealership did. The 2nd time, I had them check my brakes &/or rotors because my truck started shimmy'ing down the highway the other day at a speed of 55-60 as I was breaking. Mike took a look & reassured me that my breaks were fine, it was probably just some water from the flooding a few days before that I had gone through that caused it. I only have 21000 miles on the truck so I couldn't believe that there was a real issue. I appreciated his honest assessment & the fact that they didn't charge me to look at the truck. First time ever call to Mike's, the person that answered was disinterested. Had to give him the rundown of what was going on w/ my car while he spoke to other people. Placed me on hold and when he came back, asked me to go over the problems again. He was kinda "blamey" when I asked for quotes saying "ma'am, I've never seen your car how can I give you a quote if I've never seen you car in my life". This is the auto repair shop I trust the most in Kahului. They are on the whole honest, nice, and affordable. All qualities which are highly sought after in auto mechanics. Will always give you a quote before doing service upon request. It's a small shop, sometimes they get busy so you need to call and make an appointment ahead of time. 2 minute walk from the Queen Kaahumanu Mall so there's somewhere to hang out. Alan (who I think is the owner) is a good guy and will tell you straight up what needs to be done with your car, so we have always felt comfortable going there. Good experience everytime I'm there so far. Had an oil leak that the Dealer could not find after putting dye into auto oil of vehicle. I thought maybe the Dealer just did an incompetent oil change. A few months later the same problem with the oil leak. Anyway, took it to Mike's and Mike's Automotive found the problem and advised the Dealer since I still had a warranty. i just had my oil replaced and an engine air filter changed there and my bill was over $100.00 which was a little mind blowing for me. after paying my bill i drove home to Wailuku and by the time i got there my car was smoking badly a neighbor came over and helped me he opened my hood and there was a small fire in the engine. my neighbor put it out and found the engine oil cap sitting on the engine, they forgot to put it on. i called back and they asked me if i tried adding oil. after i said no they offered me a refund to which i declined. this was a scary experience for me i will never go there again read more

I highly recommend coming here if you are looking for honest work. I was having a problem with my brakes which I described over the phone and the mechanic seemed to know exactly what I was taking about. They were able to fit me in for an appointment the next day. The mechanic called to inform me that he was not experiencing the problem I described and he did not want to take advantage of me by fixing something he hadn't experienced himself. He was very patient while we discussed the options. In the end he fixed the thing he suspected it to be. My brakes work great now and I am so releived.
