I had a great experience with Alex at Value Auto Repair. I originally reached out through Yelp, and he was responsive and answered all of my questions. His pricing was significantly better than what the dealership quoted me, but what really stood out wasn't just the price--it was his honesty. I came in with a humming noise that I believed was a bad wheel bearing but was unsure. Alex was upfront from the beginning after making the same diagnosis and even encouraged me to get quotes from other mechanics if it made me feel more comfortable so I could make sure I was getting a fair deal. That kind of confidence and transparency is hard to find. When I arrived, he was able to get my car in within about 30 minutes to diagnose it. While the part was being delivered, I went to lunch, and once I came back, he had the wheel bearing replaced in about 45 minutes. Before I left, he took the time to show me both the old and new wheel bearings, explaining how they worked and letting me hear and feel the difference. I really appreciated him taking the time to educate me instead of just handing me a bill. One thing I noticed while I was waiting was how many customers came in who clearly knew Alex. Everyone seemed genuinely happy to see him, several appeared to be repeat customers, and there was an obvious level of trust between them. After my own experience, I completely understand why. Alex also has a great sense of humor, which made the whole experience much less stressful. Most importantly, the humming noise is completely gone, and my car drives perfectly again. I was having issues where my car wouldn't start or the battery kept dying. Which didn't make sense since I would change for a new battery and it would keep happening. So when I was looking for a body shop to take care of my car, Mr Auto was one of the 3 locations I was looking at. The biggest reason I picked this location was because of the reviews and the response the owner or mechanics had for the customers. For the low star reviews, I liked how the responses to the customers were factually. Most reviews are based on emotion without any backing. So it was interesting to see the owner/ mechanics would bring up conversations, numbers and factual information. That told me they were attentive and knew what they were talking about. So I took my car there, it was a month long process because it was hard to figure out what was going on. It was an unusual situation. After coming back and forth for weeks, they were nice to have me keep my car there without extra charge because some situations happened only when I was driving and they couldn't trigger any of the issues so they thought it would be best to keep it. They only charged me the diagnosis price and finally after a month, we were able to figure out and it was such a simple small thing that cost little to nothing and completely fixed my issue. Since then, I come here for simple oil changes, because I can trust them. I know they take the time and don't rush. Actually during that month long situation, my battery died again and I was able to jump start it, but I had a smog check. Luckily I told the smog check place what happened and they didn't test it because it would fail since the car had to be driven for at least 50-80 miles. So I drove around San Diego and called Mr Auto and they told me to come in and they would double check my car to make sure it was good to go for the Smog check. Another extra step they did for me. It was awesome. They definitely make you feel safe and comfortable.

This was one of the best experiences I've had getting work done on my car. I felt like I wasn't…read morebeing scammed or pressured into buying anything extra which I usually feel at most places. My husband called ahead of time to get a quote on a diagnostic on my car since we weren't sure what was happening and they offered a free 15 minute inspection. Once we got to the shop they were able to figure out what was happening after inspecting everything. They sent me a detailed list of things that should be worked on as well as things that may need servicing in the future. My main problem was I needed to have my engine mount replaced. The original guy helping us was really honest in recommending different mounts. He let us know the factory made mount would be more expensive but probably not worth the extra price as the other option would work just as well. After going through the inspection I left my car at the shop for the repairs and they ordered my husband and I an uber to take us back home. I got a call a couple hours later letting me know the repairs were done but one more repair could be done for some extra security. I asked them to do this repair as well and picked up my car a couple hours later. The repairs took about 3 hours total. When I eventually went to pick up my car a different guy was helping us out. He was really personable and gave us a discount on the extra repair. He also took care of the undercarriage on my car that was hanging out at no charge. On top of this, because it was my first time coming to the shop, I got a 10% discount on the labor cost. I was very happy with the service and didn't feel like I had to fork out an arm and a leg to repair my car. My car runs smoothly now and I will definitely use this shop in the future for any other car problems I might have.
