Dr. McKaelian is unique in that he will try to do what you need first and foremost without making you jump through all the hoops of intake and more X-rays, unless of course, you need them. He is also very adept at working with insurance! He is kind of like a pit stop dentist. Turn around time may be slightly longer than usual (you wait two weeks for a bridge instead of one). AVOID!!!! Simply AVOID!!! The place is filthy and looks like it hasn't been cleaned, renovated, and sanitized since the 80's, disgusting. First visit there and already in the waiting room the place felt really sketchy. Absolutely regretted letting him even check my teeth and doing an X-ray of my teeth. First of all he had crumbs of food all over his mouth and teeth while talking and all over his robe or whatever you call a dental uniform. Second he didn't even let me explain my dental history or fully address my concerns. He only did an X-ray and basically told me to go back to my old dentist after I already said that I was in search of a new dentist. I took pictures of the entire place, it was absolutely filthy and unorganized. He pulled out one of the tool's straight from the drawer, pretty sure uncleaned and not sterilized. He handed me his business card at the end and I handed that shit right back and told him that I won't be needing it because his office was unsanitary and absolutely filthy. All the other dentists there are sketchy too and you can definitely tell this place is a scam. I will definitely be filing a complaint, calling my insurance to make sure he didn't charge for other services he didn't do, he basically just looked at them and did an X-ray. The experience felt down right traumatic honestly simply because of how unsanitary the place was I couldn't wait to leave. For someone who claims to have gone to "Columbia University" and has worked "since the 80s" it doesn't show that's for sure. AVOID!!!! read more

Zero stars. Horrific. Wearing a filthy ripped stained gown. Did not change his gloves once after opening the door and answering the phone. They already seemed like old gloves. There was no secretary or dental hygienist. He used the same small piece of dental floss over and over on my teeth and slid the floss out the side of my tooth without properly going up and down. Did not actually do a cleaning with the picks. Everything was done standing up, clearly no intention to do a proper cleaning. Took 5 minutes. Office was extremely dirty and old. Looks like a hoarder lives there. Did no x-rays for this cleaning which was indicated. Of course you are not leaving with a baggie with a toothbrush and floss. 1star too many. Worse dental experience. Hadn't been to and dental visit since Covid. This is NOT the place to start. Dr was disheveled and the office was not clean. No xrays were taken, no exam of the teeth, no scraping of plaque or tartar, no treatments of any kind. Union participating but they clearly need to do a site visit. I am disappointed and upset that they would allow him to be. I will instruct them not to pay because he did nothing outside of a quick front teeth floss and polish. 15 minutes tops. He completely dismissed my pain and said he wasn't seeing any cavities on the x-ray so I must be mistaken!!! I switched to another dentist who found I had a huge hole and needed a root canal. I had gone to this dentist because he was close to my apartment and took my insurance. I stopped seeing him after I discovered he was charging my insurance for expensive procedures that never took place. Since I switched dentists, my dentists has informed me the screw he used during my root canal are antiquated and cause fractures to the tooth. My tooth has since fractured and I am looking at a long painful road to repair the work of this doctor. Do not let convenience, cost, or insurance convince you that visiting this dentist is worth it. This is the dentist from hell! He's a nervous wreck; could be a Pill Popper, as he was shaking and kept dropping his equipment. While I was getting a cleaning; when he got to the flossing part, he kept on telling me about twenty-two times "What a great patient I was;" while letting all the blood in my mouth build up! About three days after my said cleaning; there I was; sitting in the Bellevue Emergency room; where a doctor told me I had "Acute necrotizing ulcerative gingivitis (ANUG; colloquially known as trench mouth)" He prescribed two antibiotics, which I took for eleven days before I finally felt better. If I could put negative stars I would. Please avoid this man and his practice at all costs. I went to him because his practice was near my house. It was quite the little shop of horrors. Such a mistake. Let me explain. First, there's his office. Dirty equipment that's from 1957 and hasn't been cleaned since Eisenhower was in office. And the cabinets are crappy and dishevelled. Next, as you may surmise, sanitary conditions are akin to a Jarkata bordello. No real practice for keeping things clean, other than wearing gloves. Beyond this, I am not sure if it was him, his breath or his office that smelled like faeces, whatever it was, confidence was not inspired. And, when it came time for the "examination," there was none, simply a cursory look at my teeth to tell me they looked good and I must take care of them, then he proceeded to clean my teeth... something a DDS never does themselves, and he did it weirdly and badly. It involved a lot of hard flossing - who the hell does that. And that was it. In short, he's not like any dentist I know of. He shouldn't be one at all - I've talked to my insurance company about this, changed my provider back to my old one and I am going to get in touch with NYS to complain about him. Bottom line, should not be practising. Hopefully I won't come down with a case of sepsis from this. read more

Not only is he a lousy dentist but I just caught him committing Medicaid fraud with my appt. He did a terrible cleaning only, that lasted 5 minutes and all he did was floss my teeth and brush some flouride on them. I called my insurance to double check what he charged them for, and he charged for re-cementing a crown, a full exam with xrays and a cleaning. They are dealing with him now and I will call the Dental Board and make a formal complaint. This guy should not have a license. read more

Went to see this dentist for the first time today. I'm the Delta HMO plan, and have never felt the effects of being an HMO patient as strongly as I did with him. First of all, he was late (the appointment was for 10:30 a.m. and he arrived around 10:45 a.m.), then he gave me a quick cleaning which mostly consisted of him flossing my teeth, and barely consisted of any actual dental tools. He looked at his watch the whole time, and took phone calls while I was there. He was nice enough, and answered all of the questions I felt compelled to ask since he didn't seem very concerned about my teeth in general. Unfortunately, the answers were things like "This is the first time I'm seeing your teeth, it's hard to tell if it's a cavity or not." I felt like he was rushed and only willing to get me lip service, when I was asking for teeth service. I do not plan on returning. read more
