My refrigerator literally caught fire.
Dealing with Miguel's was a nightmare from the start. We bought two appliances from them, a gas convection oven and a basic Whirlpool refrigerator. Both cost more than I wanted to pay for used appliances, but I figured buying from a company that refurbished them and gave a 3 month guarantee was safer than buying something sketchy off Facebook Marketplace. I was wrong.
I started having problems right away. The oven would not hold temperature, which took me a while to figure out because longer cook times just kept coming out wrong. Then, right when I was going to call about the oven, the refrigerator stopped working too. All the meat in my freezer thawed and was ruined. At that point I tried to be reasonable. Things happen, so I laughed it off as bad luck. They sent someone the next day with temporary replacements.
The original refrigerator was supposedly fixed and returned. The oven I actually paid for, a convection oven with 5 burners, was apparently too expensive for them to fix, so they said they would find me a replacement. While that was happening, the refrigerator broke again. Connor, the person I dealt with most of the time, was nice and handled the customer service side well. He got another temporary replacement sent out. The fridge was "fixed" again and redelivered. I think even one of the temporary ovens broke during all this too. It is honestly hard to remember because they had to swap appliances so many times.
Eventually they said they found a replacement oven. I was thrilled because I was tired of movers coming in and out of my house in the morning and I just wanted working appliances. They brought it in and it had 5 burners, but it was not a convection oven. That was the main feature I paid for. I brought it up and Connor looked defeated and asked me what the difference was. At that point I knew I had lost. I had been sick with the flu, I was in my busiest time of year at work, and I was done fighting over it. I accepted it even though I knew I had overpaid for a cheaper model. The only thing I asked for was a verbal agreement that if something happened in the future, it would be taken care of. Connor agreed.
The refrigerator kept having issues after that. It constantly leaked water and froze it. Then the 3 month guarantee passed, and last week the worst possible thing happened. Early in the morning, while I was getting ready for work, I heard a strange sound from the refrigerator. I opened the freezer and the back of it was on fire, with smoke billowing into my kitchen. I unplugged it and used a fire extinguisher. If I had not been home, this could have been much worse.
I called Miguel's afterward. Someone put Connor on the phone, and he sounded shocked. He said he needed to talk to Miguel and would get back to me. I was already late for a 12 hour shift because of all of this. Nobody called me back. Two days later I called again and finally spoke to Miguel. He said, "oh yeah, I heard about that," which means he knew and still never called me back. Then he asked for a receipt and said it was outside the 3 month guarantee. I had never been asked for a receipt before, and it was obvious they were not going to honor what Connor had told me.
This was one of the worst buying experiences I have ever had. Multiple broken appliances, constant replacements, an oven that was not the model I paid for, a refrigerator that kept failing, and then that same refrigerator caught fire. Save yourself the time, money, and risk. Do not buy from this place. read more
