BLUF: 2-star rating. Timely to respond to emails and schedule service. Service was performed on…read moretime. Pricing was above average and not stated in advance. Invoicing needs to be clarified and easier to understand (from a business owner's perspective). I recommend others clarify expectations with Shockwave in advance of scheduling. I contacted Shockwave after receiving a direct snail mail solicitation to perform annual service on my 20kw Generac. I was a first-time customer. I felt a level of trust since I thought they were the company that sold/installed my generator in 2015 and did a service check on it in 2021 when I purchased the property. I emailed them to set up the service without asking about the cost upfront. Service was scheduled within a few days (the scheduler was friendly and responsive), but I was away when the tech arrived to perform the service. As far as I know, there were no issues with scheduling or service performed. After service, I did not receive any information/contact aside from an invoice. When I received the bill, I felt it was expensive. I anticipated a $200 service bill since my model generator's maintenance kits are $75 direct from Generac. This is what caused me to inquire further. I emailed Shockwave and asked for an itemized receipt showing the breakdown of labor & materials. After several emails, I received a confusing invoice that was difficult to follow. This is precisely what I was hoping I would not receive since this type of invoice is usually associated with a company with questionable business practices (my perception, where there is smoke, there is fire). Had it been easy to follow, I would have paid it without further questions or taken the time to write a neutral/negative review. The materials (maintenance kit that Generac sells for $75 and dealers probably buy for 20% less) were billed at $100, which is not market value. In one email exchange, whoever I emailed stated my itemized invoice was "technically a loss of revenue." At this point, I decided to stop going back and forth and instead pay my invoice and write this review. Service was performed on time, pricing was high, I felt taken advantage of with the $100 price of the maintenance kit ($25 over market value), and the invoicing was unclear. I enjoy good service and do not mind paying for it. Had the itemized invoice been clear, I would have never questioned it further. Since this wasn't the case, I'll shop this service out in future years with other service companies or buy the $75 maintenance kit and spend an hour doing this myself. Feedback to Shockwave: Fix your invoices; when a customer asks for an itemized invoice, get them a clear invoice with labor, materials, and tax charged. Charge market value for the maintenance kits. Update your website to include a pricing schedule or at least have it in your mail solicitations. Report back to your customer with the generator status your service tech just got intimate with. Most homeowners don't want to maintain these things themselves, so they contact companies like yours but still care about its condition. Print some door tags, and give the homeowner a status report, letting them know their generator is in great operational condition (or needs repair). This is also an excellent opportunity to leave a magnet for their fridge with your company information, a date to schedule the next service, and a discount on future service. I'd like to see small businesses succeed, and there were many missed opportunities here to retain a customer and get an excellent review. Best of luck.
