IF YOU HAVE A PAINFUL NEUROMA in your foot. This one is for you!…read more TLDR:: Dr Usman is Seriously Amazing. Extremely comprehensive and did not rush AT ALL. The wait and the 4 hour drive to see him was WELL worth it. My story; For more than two years, I lived with constant pain from a Morton's neuroma. What started as occasional discomfort gradually became something that affected nearly every part of my life. Simple things most people take for granted became difficult. Walking my dog, standing in the kitchen to cook dinner, shopping, traveling, and even getting through a workday were painful. At night, I would often lie awake because of the burning, tingling, and electric shock sensations shooting through my foot. I honestly felt hopeless. I constantly googled, ChatGPT, researched on line and did so much. Over the years, I saw multiple doctors (1 sports medicine MD, 1 orthopedic doctor and one podiatrist l) and tried just about everything that was recommended. I went through custom orthotics, physical therapy, shoe modifications, several cortisone injections, and alcohol sclerosing injections. While some treatments provided temporary relief, the pain always returned and returned with a vengeance! Eventually, I was told by my local doctor that surgical nerve removal was likely my next option. The idea of surgery, recovery time, and the possibility that it still might not solve the problem left me feeling extremely discouraged. That's when I searched and emailed Dr Usman (used the main email which his staff forwarded to his direct email). He replied so quickly to me even though I was not an official patient of his! I immediately scheduled an appointment with Dr. Usman. From my first visit, I felt that my concerns were genuinely being heard. Dr. Usman took the time to review my history, explain why previous treatments may not have worked, and discuss all available options. One treatment we discussed was cryosurgery (cryoablation), a minimally invasive procedure designed to treat my painful nerves by using extremely cold temperatures. After a few weeks later, I was cleared for the procedure and the procedure itself was so much easier than I expected. It was performed in his extremely clean and Beautiful office. During the procedure at several points he made me felt very comfortable and checked up on me and explained in detail what he was doing. He made a very small pin point entry point in my foot and did cryosurgery for my neuroma! I had no large incisions or stitches. I was able to walk out of the office afterward wearing a comfortable surgical shoe. About 1 week after the cryoabalation of my neuroma, I woke up, stepped on the ground with my bare feet and I had ZERO pain. For the first time! The pain that had controlled my life for years finally began to improve. Today, about 6 weeks later, I am back to doing the activities I had given up. I can walk longer distances, enjoy social events, and spend time with family without constantly thinking about my foot. The sharp burning, walking on a rock pebble and electrical sensations that once dominated my day are no longer part of my everyday life. No treatment is right for every patient, and everyone's results are different. However, if you have been struggling with Morton's neuroma, have tried multiple conservative treatments, or have been told surgery is your only remaining option, it may be worth learning more about cryosurgery/cryoabalation and discussing whether it is appropriate for your situation. I only write this review to help those out there still struggling like I was. For me, finding Dr. Usman and Michigan Avenue Podiatry Clinic was a turning point. After years of frustration, I finally found relief and was able to get back to living my life. If you're on the fence about seeing Dr Usman for your foot problems. I would highly encourage you to see him. Best Podiatrist in Chicago and beyond!

Additionally, the information shared with me during my examination and scan differed significantly from what was reported to my internist. There may be an explanation for this discrepancy, but despite multiple attempts to follow up, I was unable to obtain clarification. This was only my second time meeting with Al-Kadari even though he was the main surgeon on my mother's case and she spent 3+ weeks in the hospital at Rush Medical Center. Since her hospital discharge October 20th, we have had three post-op visits with his associate, Ashley Knies. Ashley appeared nervous, insecure, and all around lacking intelligence. Our first visit with her she did nothing besides prescribe more opiates. Our second visit she remover the bandage but did not feel comfortable replacing my mother's wound vac stating she did not have proper supplies or bandages. Luckily, our home healthcare nurse, Sarah helped me pack/prepare the wound vac for the post-op visit, in addition to extra bandages. I tried to hand the bag with the wound vac to Ashley but she shook her head nervously so instead I handed a bandage to Ashley who emphasized, "I wish we had these, our bandages are not near as good as these." After our visit, I reviewed the appointment notes in "MyChart" and was shocked to see Ashley wrote we failed to bring my mother's wound vac to the appointment, which is an outright lie! Moreover, let's pretend we had not brought the wound vac or bandages, why are these supplies not at the hospital? Are they truly lacking necessary medical supplies or is it simply Ashley's incompetence placing blame elsewhere?

I honestly can't say enough good things about this medical practice. I saw Dr Holmbeck this summer…read more(June 2016) after having pain in my heel while running. A quick check of symptoms on the internet and I suspected plantar fasciitis. I tried some at home remedies for a few weeks and had no improvement, in fact it got worse. My job as a nanny also has me on my feet most of the day. I had insurance but was on an HMO and the network I was in couldn't get me into a specialist for almost 3 months. I was in too much pain to wait that long. In 2010 I had an amazing and unbelievably affordable experience with Ankle N Foot Centers (West Town) after fracturing my ankle while unemployed and uninsured (see story below). So based on my previous positive experience with Ankle N Foot Centers, I called Ankle N Foot Centers in the W Loop (close to work and home) to see about cost if I came in and paid out of pocket for an appointment, X-rays, etc. Just as I had experienced in the past they got me in right away (within 2-3 days) and their costs were upfront and totally affordable for someone paying out of pocket. About $400 for an exam, in office X-ray with almost instant images/results, cortisone shot, orthotics for my shoes and a follow up appointment. I saw Dr Holmbeck who was patient, listened, he was thorough with his exam and questions for me and just really nice. He explained that sometimes a second shot was needed as well as some ultrasound therapy if symptoms returned. I felt so much better within 48 hours after the shot. I did require a second shot about 6 weeks later and in office physical therapy for the heel (I know this was my fault for not heeding the warning about how bad flip flops are for your feet, especially when dealing with plantar fasciitis).Again, after the 2 be shot and first treatment out of 6 PT sessions I again felt great within 48 hours. This time I took their advice and swore off flip flops. By my 2nd appointment I had switched to a PPO with BCBS and my insurance was accepted by the office. During my visits for physical therapy Dr Holmbeck always came in to check in and ask about symptoms, results, and concerns. He genuinely took time once again to listen and answer any questions. On one occasion during PT Dr Hernandez was the doctor working that night. She also came in with my file, was informed on why I was there and asked and answered questions. Dr Hernandez also recommended a great brand of flip flops that did not look like old lady shoes which were also good for your feet. Bought 2 pairs on Zappos that night and they got me through summer without looking like I was wearing my grandmother's shoes and. The assistants who do the ultrasound therapy are so nice and professional, just really great guys. Chase at the front desk who handles scheduling and billing in the West Loop office is always awesome. He follows up when he says he will, works really hard to get you appointments that work around your work schedule. They have evening hours a few nights a week. The way this office is run and the treatment of the patients by the doctors should be a model for doctors everywhere. I am back to running, putting in more mileage than ever before and cross training with zero issues. This is all thanks to the doctors and staff at Ankle N Foot Centers. I first became familiar with the Ankle N Foot Centers about 6-7 years ago. While uninsured I tripped and hurt my ankle really badly in a class at the gym. I went to urgent care, they did X-rays and said it was just a bad sprain. 6-7 weeks later after being on crutches I was seeing no improvement. I called Ankle N Foot Center on Chicago Ave in West Town and Inquired on costs of services, etc if I came in to have my Ankle looked at. I was shocked at how affordable their services were considering I had no insurance. I saw Dr Elizabeth KurtZ. She is no longer with the practice because she moved out of state. They did X-rays in office that day for about $100 (compared to the $400 at urgent care just weeks before). Dr KurtZ discovered my ankle was actually not sprained but fractured in 2 spots. Urgent care never caught the fractures on their X-rays. Dr KurtZ and the staff at the West Town office took great care of me. I was given a boot to walk in for about 8 weeks. Afterwards I wore a splint/brace for about 8 weeks. I went in for check ups on progress throughout the time I wore the boot and splint/brace. Dr KurtZ really made sure I was doing well and progressing as I should be since I was up and around on the fractures for so long before discovering that was the real issue. My ankle healed beautifully and I have had no issues since. All in, the total cost to me without insurance for all services during the several months of treatment cost me less than $600. To me this was so affordable for the quality of care that I received and the excellent end results I had without having insurance at the time.

I've been a patient of Dr. Victor Romano for many years, and I can confidently say that he is one…read moreof the most professional, compassionate, and effective orthopedic surgeons I've ever encountered. Over the years, he has performed successful procedures on my shoulder, both legs, wrist, and elbow. Most recently, in the summer of 2025, I underwent a full knee replacement under his care, and the entire experience--from initial consultation to recovery--has been exceptional. What stands out most about Dr. Romano is his conservative and thoughtful approach. When he first noted that I might eventually need a knee replacement, he didn't rush to schedule surgery. Instead, he made the recommendation but gave me the time and space to decide when I was ready. I ultimately waited a year before going through with it, and I'm very glad I did it on my own timeline with his continued support. Pre-operative care was outstanding. His team provides clear, thorough guidance to help patients prepare for surgery, including medical and lab clearances, and a pre-surgery meeting to ensure everything is in order. I had my procedure at Rush Oak Park, which--like Dr. Romano's team--was excellent across the board. Though it was an outpatient surgery, I stayed overnight and received top-notch care throughout. Dr. Romano came to see me in the recovery area shortly after surgery to check in personally, reassure me, and explain how the procedure had gone. What impressed me even more was that he returned the following day--Saturday--to visit me in the hospital. He didn't have to do that; Rush has hospitalists assigned to oversee patient transitions and discharge. But Dr. Romano took the time to come in himself, examine me, and ensure everything was on track. That level of care and commitment is rare and deeply appreciated. He also gave me his personal cell phone number so I could text him directly with any questions or concerns. That kind of accessibility is almost unheard of, and he was genuinely responsive. Of course, his office team is also attentive and available, but knowing I could reach him personally was incredibly reassuring. Follow-up care has been just as thoughtful. At my post-operative visit, a member of his office team carefully checked my scar tissue, explained the next steps in recovery, and extended necessary medications. It's clear that patient well-being and recovery are top priorities for Dr. Romano and his entire staff. In-home physical therapy--arranged through a company they work with--has also been exceptional. The professionals from Interim HealthCare have been friendly, skilled, and focused on results. Even within a single week, I saw marked improvement in my right leg's strength and mobility thanks to their expert guidance. I wholeheartedly give Dr. Romano and his team five stars. Their professionalism, courtesy, thoroughness, and genuine care for patients make them stand out. Most of all, they take the time to listen and answer questions, ensuring you feel fully supported at every stage of your treatment. I recommend Romano Orthopedics without hesitation.
