Even though the Dish Network was not working (which was not the fault of the motel) we still thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Nice little kitchen almost like being at home. Very nice linens, comfy bed and plenty of towels. Oh, and the softest water we've ever experienced. I heard that the water is naturally soft. This older house had newish floors, a nice stove, refrigerator, washer and dryer. Oh, and a nice shower.

The owners live up behind the place and are welcoming and helpful. I had a room with a "Der mit dem Wolff Tanzt" poster in it. Graham Greene and Kevin Costner never looked so heroic. Must be the German. Sometimes I give out more stars to a place when they are the only provider of a certain service in an area, but not in this case. Now believe me, I look forward to the next time I have the opportunity to ring the bell at the Guest House front desk and sign on the dotted line. The issue is that I have stayed in a LOT of hotels, and the Guest House is not the Ritz-Carlton, nor anything like it. So, three stars = A-OK. So if you need to stay overnight in Carter County, call the Guest House right away. You won't find better for miles.

I never actually saw anyone during the check-in/check-out process. You give them your information, pay, and then you get a text with the check-in code for your room. No key to lose or non-working card key. The code is changed after every stay. The rooms are bigger than usual hotel rooms, so there's little chance of feeling cramped. There's a coffee maker with coffee and tea bags, a small refrigerator and a microwave. The smart tv has many viewing options, and the wi-fi works very well. The beds/pillows are comfortable, the water in the shower is hot and the pressure is good. There's also a coin-operated laundry on the premises. In the morning, there's a continental breakfast in the lobby. but still no one at the desk. The office is monitored by cameras. and if supplies get low, someone will likely be around to re-stock. There is a phone number available connecting to the manager for emergencies or when, like me, you don't see the text message with the check-in code and you're having a whiskey-tango-foxtrot brain freeze trying to figure out how to get inside your room. Long day, long drive, that's my lame excuse. Hooray for the unusual.

They have mobility accessible rooms. It's a very short walk to the library, accessible by sidewalks. Complementary bikes on property. Bring your own bike helmet if you wish to have one. Coin operated laundry, very conveniently located. Everything about our time here was lovely. I highly recommend.

I found the Sagebrush Inn as I was making my way from Theodore Roosevelt National Park in North…read moreDakota and heading to incredible Devils Tower National Monument in Wyoming. Here...in the TINY, TINY town of Baker, Montana...you'll find the Sagebrush Inn. For myself, this was a good stopping point on my journey towards Devils Tower NM. I had just spent a fun filled day exploring Theodore Roosevelt NP and after driving a simple 79 miles here to Baker, Montana....I decided to spend the evening. I knew waking up the next morning I'd have about 150 miles remaining on my drive to Devils Tower. Though during my research I understood Devils Tower was situated in the middle of nowhere so staying at the Sagebrush Inn for the night was a fine resting stop. I will say...the Sagebrush Inn was sort of on the "rundown" side, but it was more than suffice for resting my head. The overhead sign could use a remodel, but I'm just picking at things some others may take issue with. Still, kind of interesting how a town like Baker, Montana....so small...they have 1 main street, 1 traffic light, a gas station, a restaurant or two and not much more...I genuinely enjoyed being there. There was something about such a minuscule town on the eastern border of North Dakota and Montana that I pleasantly respected. I think the fact that I was so far away from my hometown in Florida and what seemed like the normal reality of bustling towns virtually everywhere you go that lent to an appreciation for being in such an unknown part of the country. Here I am....writing only the 2nd review about this motel and I'll be the 1st to post a few pictures. So I guess my review about the Sagebrush Inn, although just okay, will hopefully get some more attention for any of the hardcore travelers out there like myself to take the time to consider spending the evening here. Once I checked in, my room was in fine condition. Simple...couldn't ask for more. The lady who checked me in mentioned she had visited Devils Tower NM plenty of times and that I'd truly admire it. She also recommended 2 places around the corner from the motel on the main street where I could eat dinner. I chose Heiser's...a bar/restaurant which offers typical American food like chicken, burgers, pizzas and all sorts of appetizers. After dinner I came back to the Sagebrush Inn and there was a chair positioned right outside my room where I sat down and watched the sunset looking out onto the street. It was by no means a pretty or picturesque view, but it helped me put into perspective just how far I had traveled to be in this portion of the United States and how probably no one out there's even heard of Baker, Montana. Still...it's times like these that continues to motivate me to keep on running, keep on dreaming and keep seeing just how extraordinary the world really is.

What a surprising thing to do, most places tell you that you have to be there in time or too bad. Nice big beds, room was clean and looked set up for long term stays. The complimentary shampoo/conditioner was more along the spa. And a huge walk in shower!!! However, the water pressure was horrible. Took forever to get the shampoo/conditioner out of our hair, if you sat on the bench the wouldn't reach you. Big disappointment. All and all if we were in the area we'd stay there again, maybe this time pop the popcorn that is left in your room for you. And just skip the shower. They are doing construction on the place so maybe it was related to that.

We arrived later than 8:30 but she was still in the office. The room has 2 queen beds. It was clean and smelled like laundry detergent when we arrived. The housekeeper is nice and does a great job. I was very impressed with the cleanliness of the room!! The shower head is amazing and the shower was nice and clean. I can't remember the exact amount per night for the room but I think it was around $70-85. This is a great place to stay and right down the road from the grocery store, gas station and food joints.

I must say, the place blew our minds. How many rentals feature a torture chamber in the basement? You just can't find that everywhere. Even though the lights inside don't really work (lamps work, some ceiling lights don't) you get the spotlight shining in from outside as a night light. All night long baby! All night! You might think you'll close the blinds but you can't. Haha. Changing is always a voyeuristic experience. Drivers by see you from outside. Guests and family see you from dining room. Bet you didn't expect that? The kitchen is one of the strangest rooms. You can stick a knife on the electrical pretty easily so there's that. You have a prep sink but really nowhere to wash a restaurants worth of dishes. The sinks were taken off of the plumbing for a gross jetted tub with homemade plumbing. No door on the shower room since you can watch your commercial Wolfe cooktop while you're taking a shower this way. One of the best touches is the lack of a television. You can't even watch rerun movies after it gets dark at 5:30 during hunting season. You can sit on your two plus chairs or sit at the dining table while you read about Amelia growing sweet peas. If you're looking for a once in a lifetime stay with no basic safety features (electrical up to code, working fire extinguishers, legal front steps, fire alarms, etc.) this place is for you.
