Do not rent here. I am escalating this and putting this here in hopes that someone else can help me who to reach. This is supposedly a billion dollar company that has an unreachable customer support, headquarters, and corporate office. We have been strangely unable to contact a single, live person or employee after we moved out. They have literally stolen both security deposits from my wife and I (totaling $1,000). We moved out of our apartment 5 months ago and have not received either which is documented in my letter. In a final attempt, I had emailed the one who is replying to the reviews in the Seattle Greystar listing, labeled "SeattleFrontDesk@greystar.com" account (the only address or number that has ever been given). As of two weeks now, he/she has not replied to my email. We have reached out to the state district and our personal attorney, if anyone else has experienced this from this company please let me know what else can be done. This is just disgusting and appalling that a company this large can be ran so poorly and be allowed to steal from its residents, whom otherwise had absolutely zero wrongdoings. We were stand-up tenants, always paid rent on time, quiet, cleaned around us, never caused any issues/disturbances (despite having things stolen from within the secure mail room, homeless people entering, gunshots outside, etc.). Perhaps most importantly, we gave our 30-day notice, thoroughly deep cleaned and polished our apartment and moved out both timely and correctly with no issues or gripes, something many other tenants cannot say. I have included part of my email below.
Hello Sir or Ma'am,
I have been attempting to reach someone for four months now, since my fiance and I have moved out and not received our $700 refundable security deposit and the $300 refundable pet deposit, totaling $1,000. Both of these are outlined in the contract I have attached to this email and I am also able to send PDF copies of all emails and texts detailing this and my recent conversations with each representation. This includes the communication I had attempted most recently with Nichole Mosley who works at the front desk of Hannah Heights, who stated they do not handle any deposits and to reach out to "Greystar Receivables". When asked what their number is, she refused to provide the number and simply said to "look it up", which was attempted with no results. All further conversation she blocked and proceeded to ignore.
We have reached out to the Washington State Legislation and our attorney, they advised us to first email you before we move forward. This is an excerpt from the Revised Code of Washington:
(2) If the landlord fails to give such statement together with any refund due the tenant within the time limits specified above he or she shall be liable to the tenant for the full amount of the deposit. The landlord is also barred in any action brought by the tenant to recover the deposit from asserting any claim or raising any defense for retaining any of the deposit unless the landlord shows that circumstances beyond the landlord's control prevented the landlord from providing the statement within the twenty-one days or that the tenant abandoned the premises as defined in RCW 59.18.310. The court may in its discretion award up to two times the amount of the deposit for the intentional refusal of the landlord to give the statement or refund due. In any action brought by the tenant to recover the deposit, the prevailing party shall additionally be entitled to the cost of suit or arbitration including a reasonable attorneys' fee.
The Washington law states that we are subject to a full refund as it has long exceeded 21 days since our move-out date, and that we may even be rewarded up to two times the amount. We have documentation that we provided our address and made attempts to reach out to secure the refund. read more
