Just when I thought i reviewed all my favorite places in Miami, I just realized this I hadn't reviewed this legendary spot! Midtown Garden Center, is a lovely little sanctuary located in one of the busiest areas in the city. Yes, parking might be difficult, and yes, the area isn't exactly "walkable" but once you arrive you're transported to a beautiful little rainforest with pots, plants, blooms, succulents, and even smoothies to satisfy your cravings on a hot and sunny day. I love coming here and asking the team what they would recommend for a rookie plant gal like myself. The team is always extremely sweet and helpful. I can't believe I've never reviewed this place. I used to live only a few blocks away and have moved to the beach since, but I still make the drive here because they are the best garden center in the area. The selection for indoor and outdoor plants is excellent. I've bought a number of plans for myself over the years, but have also bought some nice gifts for people. Most importantly, the staff is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. They can always find you exactly what you're looking for and do a great job at potting for you. I am one of those stereotypical people who does an amazing job at killing plants, but everything that they have recommended for me has been spot on over the years. read more

Very nice local spot to buy a plant for your home! I visited earlier this year to buy a tree to put in my apartment. I had no idea where to start but the staff was very friendly and helpful to find the perfect plant for our needs! A couple weeks ago we had some concerns about the plant, thinking we needed to change the soil, so my girlfriend stopped in to buy some soil. The staff was quick to ask questions about the plant and steered us from buying the soil and rather gave us other care tips. Selection is great- there's something big or small for everyone and prices are fair! read more

Stumbled upon this place before going to eat nearby. What a hidden gem! I never knew this existed and was so impressed. Everyone who worked there was very nice and willing to help at all times. The plants and garden looked so beautiful. I seriously wanted to buy everything before leaving. You can tell they take care of their plants and give them all the love they need before you take one with you. I really loved the ambiance of just walking through this place. What an adorable green oasis in the urban jungle. As you stand among the greenery you can see the tall buildings in the downtown. Pay street parking is available alongside the garden center. Hey this is Miami, finding free parking is like spotting a unicorn. Midtown is owned by Ninfa Diaz who grew up in Latin America surrounded by plants and animals. When Midtown started out there were no tall buildings. The business started out as an outpost for their Homestead landscaping businesses. It was a way to get the plants closer to the people in the north who needed them. In 2015 Ninfa took back over the business from the people she was letting run it. It was then that she started to create a backyard feel to the center for the people who were living in the towers. Seating and event areas were added and she invited in food trucks. Her newest businesses venture is the MiMo Garden Center in the Miami Modern section of town. Besides a variety of flowering, landscaping, and succulent plants and pots, there are also several other businesses operating here. They include Zoom Bloomz, a florist, Tacomiendo serving tacos, and Devia Juice Bar serving smoothies, juices, and bowls. Bought several plants from here and their pots and rocks and filled my entire house, and then I was given a plant as a gift from someone and wanted to get it repotted and they me they wouldn't repot a plant that wasn't bought from the store... even if I bought their pot... Never buying a plant here again. Will not recommend any plant enthusiast to ever come here either. Ridiculous policy. Makes no sense because you have to pay a potting fee even if you buy their plant... would give zero stars if I could read more

What a cute plant nursery right in the middle of Miami! Alex who helped us was so knowledgeable, friendly and willing to answer any of our questions! There are several little food areas here too, so go pick out a few plants and have lunch! There's a taco stand, pizza, burger, and a juice bar! There's a sign that says you can bring your own wine and walk around. We didn't try this but love the idea! Definitely will be going back for more plants and lunch! read more

I came across the midtown garden center while I was in my car. I immediately parked and went in ! It's a beautiful garden center with all of your flower and plant needs. I got a beautiful bouquet from zooms flowers for 5 dollars ! It was STUNNING. This place has succulents to orchids to anything you would want plant wise. I even saw a taco stand and a fruit stand. This place is really nice and everything is easy to find. The staff is pretty helpful as well. I've bought a couple indoor plants here that are really beautiful. My only concern is that two of the plants I bought and had them repot for me with soil, the soil might've been infested with gnats. I'm currently killing them with a peroxide mix, but it does make it frustrating that I have to go through the process. I'd definitely still come here, but I wouldn't have anyone else pot my plants again. read more

Very peaceful but pricey plants. There's a monthly plant painting event like painting with a twist. You can bring your own bottles but food can only come from one of the vendors there. The taco truck/ stand is soooo good. There's a corn item that's seasoned, roasted and dusted with just the right amount of cheese. Tacos are open you get them traditional but the pork is full of flavor and will have you asking for more. There is a second truck but the Mexican inspired truck will keep your attention. The area is out in the open so if you plan on going when it's raining take an umbrella cause more of it is not covered. I liked the plant selection nothing super exotic but the service and peace you have when there is great. read more

I was strolling around in wynwood when I came across this cute garden. Huge selection of plants, indoor and outdoor. Great prices, I personally love succulents and purchased five of them! Three for my friends and they even changed the pot for me and added some soil for a small fee. My friends loved their gifts. Such a cute place! It is an outdoor plant shop with a great selection of plants as well as a flower truck and some food trucks around. They had a sign that the garden is BYOB, so you could come with a bottle of wine and sit at one of the little tables in the garden. I love that idea! We bought a few plants, one larger and some herbs. They had a good variety from succulents, tiny plants, herbs, 4-5 inch plants, and large plants of various sizes. I will definitely come back to get plants in the future - highly recommend coming here, whether to pick up plants, have a drink in the garden, or simply walk through. read more

Small cute garden center in a corner lot, that houses a taco shop and Nomade (both food trucks). I love their displays, it's very relaxing to go there and just walk around and shop for plants. Even though the plants are a little more pricey than other nurseries, every time I go someone is ready to assist me and help me find what I'm looking for. The last employee that helped me guided me into buying the right indoor plant. I don't know much about plants and she was kind enough to explain which ones would be ideal for indoors. They also sell soil and pots and gardening supplies. I noticed they have an event area that can be rented out for parties. I don't know much about it so calling or stopping by would be the best bet to find out. Pro-Tip: Wear mosquito repellant or long sleeves and pants. I always get eaten by mosquitos every single time I go. They don't have a private parking lot but there is some free and some metered parking in the surrounding area. read more

Get ready to get your face ripped off! A star for the friendly and helpful staff. Since I moved to Miami a few years ago I've enjoyed supporting the Midtown Garden Center, and "local?" business that is not the corporate dominator Home Depot. It's close to my house and the staff is always pretty helpful. It's always expensive though. If you've ever been to any other nursery you notice how high the prices are. Maybe they pay a lot of rent being right in town or something? I try my best to justify why everything would be so egregiously, at most times, overpriced. Then my father in law came to visit and was determined to buy us more garden plants and garden tools. We looked around and grabbed a small plant and a small bougainvillea. They rang us up....It was $420. I was dumbstruck as I looked at a plant that fits in my hand and the bougainvillea. "How much is this?", I asked. "$350.00". I was pretty shocked but my father-in-law didn't care so off we went with our plants. The next day we went to Home Depot to get more garden tools. As we looked around the garden center we stumbled upon a group of bougainvilleas. They were identical to the one we bought at MGC. The miniature wood trellis, the green plastic tape tied to the branches, the size of the plant....identical in every way. Price tag? $79.00. MDG could have bought these exact ones and plopped them down on the site for sale at a markup of 400%. And if they didn't, they probably got them for even less and gouged the living hell out of their customers. I have a hard time justifying, let alone understanding, how a company can do that to their customers other than, "because they can". It doesn't make me feel good for supporting a local business like that, and it doesn't make me feel like anybody cares about me other than to how best to rip me off. This isn't an example of some cheapskate telling a merchant, "Hey, it's cheaper on Amazon by a few bucks." To that I always tell my customers, that's great, you should definitely buy it from them. If you want some service and commitment to your experience I'm here for you. Anyway, if you are a new patron to MGC be aware of what you are in for. read more

When I asked, They questionably said they were closed already which clearly they were still in the process of doing so. I didn't realize it took THAT much hard labor and effort to assist me in purchasing a few bags of soil. Talk about LAZY staff. Lovely experience! We came here as a group of 4 for a paint and plant event organized by this business and had so much fun! They give you pots, and painting supplies and if you require the associates help you with painting ideas and strategies as well, so it's okay if you're new to this. This event was BYOB but there's a nice taco track nearby if you get hungry! Once you are done painting, you can choose from a variety of plants that the associates help you plant and also let you know how to take care of. Great place for plants and super helpful staff who know whats what. Not pushy, but approachable, so tip them! The place is great but only got 4 stars because parking is a nightmare and its kinda pricey for plants. We got a creeping fig for $6 (which is $7 at Publix), a mini Orchid for $8 (which are $7 at Trader Joe's), and a mangrove plant for privacy. The juice stand smelled citrusy and amazing, so thats worth a visit and also worth seeing what all the hype is about. I highly recommend AVOIDING this nursery at all costs. I bought 10 large plants here (spent over $1000) and have had experienced NUMEROUS issues with the plants and customer service. To start, I was given completely inadequate care instructions from the employee that installed my plants. It's been an uphill battle trying to figure out what these plants need to survive. Then, they sold me a toxic plant without any disclaimer. This is especially disturbing considering I brought my dog to the nursery with me when I picked and purchased all my plants. One of the plants was delivered with a rotten stem, despite the fact that the owner claims to inspect plants thoroughly. Now, it has recently come to my attention that FOUR of my plants are INFESTED with scale. I've never been so disgusted in my life! When I contacted the owner about the scale infestation, she told me that moving plants to a new environment can cause illness, and that's just nature. Yet, the only way plants get scale is from going outside or through contaminated soil. She then proceeded to give me 1 line of advice on how to deal with it. As a first-time plant owner, my experience with Midtown Garden Center has been nothing but horrendous. And it's a real shame because the plants were beautiful and the venue is pretty cool. Absolutely the coolest garden center I've ever seen. They even have a taco stand and a juice bar. You select your plants and pots, they'll help direct you, and then they plant it with great potting soil and top it off with rocks if you want. Once you go here, you'll never go to Home Depot or anything like that, and you'll never drive to Homestead again. They have everything you're looking far. This place rocks! read more

With plenty of perennial floral options, this is the perfect spot to adorn your loft with plants without having to leave the Wynwood area. Inside this garden center are two food truck options to nourish your empty stomachs. I found it relaxing to stroll around and check out the plants in stock. They also offer an array of soil and fertilizers suitable for outdoor or indoor plants. I saw some nice potted plants as well that are totally worth checking out. I've come here a couple times and I love the atmosphere, and the prices aren't so bad. I love supporting smaller businesses rather than going to Walmart and spend a couple extra bucks of what it could've been at a bigger company. The few times I've come in here I have bought a plant and gotten it re potted at the store, which is really convenient! you can either purchase a pot at the store or bring your own. for a really small plant (begonia) they charge $5 to re pot it and for a small/medium (Swiss cheese plant) it's $8. The only thing why I give it 4 stars would be the lack of employees working.
