My experience was great here! This was my first time due to me having to change due to my insurance. Making an appointment was easy. I did everything online, but you also have the paper option. The process was really smooth. Once you make your appointment, they send out various reminder text to keep you updated and reminded about your appointment. One the day of, you fill out the demographic and health history form (which was a breeze). They checked me in and took me to the back quickly. I had a thorough screening. The doctor is very smart and have advanced technology. When I was done, the tech took me to the front and help me pick out glasses that best suited my preference. I enjoyed my experience. Hubby and I have found the right place for us. read more

I am beyond satisfied with my experience with Midtown Eye Care and Dr.Jared Powelson. I spent MONTHS reading reviews and searching for optometrists within 50 miles of my location. The midtown eye care clinic was decently close to my home and Dr.Powelson had great reviews. So I bit the bullet and decided to schedule an appointment. The staff was very courteous and the doctor was phenomenal. As I've mentioned to him at my appointment, this has been the more extensive and helpful appointment I've ever had with an optometrist. We even slightly discussed lasik (we would have discussed it more but at the time I am not a candidate for it). Dr.Powelson actually teaches how to perform lasik at the school in town as well. So if you're looking into that option, or looking for anything pertaining to your optometry needs, I absolutely recommend going to Midtown Eye Care and seeing Dr.Powelson. They also had a decent selection of eyeglass frames in the clinic. Brands such as Kate Spade, Ralph Lauren, Oakley, Ray Ban, Lacoste, Sketchers, amongst others. Prices were beyond reasonable. Instead of going through the eye dilation situation that everyone hates about optometry visits, they have this new machine where you put your eye towards a lens and use your face to press into it until you change the blue light in the lens to green and it scans a photo of the back of your eye. It does cost extra, but it is very affordable and your eye scans get stored in their database. Midtown Eye Care also fits and makes lenses on location, although some insurances do require them to send the frames out to their own lab and the lenses be made and fit there and then they'd send it back to the optometry clinic and you go pick them up. I would recommend this place over and over again. This time, I'm actually looking forward to my next optometry visit. read more

I switched to Midtown Eye Care (at first begrudgingly) when my former eye care clinic Eclectic Eye stopped being covered under my insurance. I've come to love MEC just as much. They are always super timely. I've never had to wait. I walk in and am immediately seen. You gotta love that! Staff is very professional and proficient. I also like that they remain on the cutting edge of the latest technology. Seems like they have a new doodad every year. If you know anything about the machine that blows that annoying and jarring puff of air in your eye to test for glaucoma, etc.... well that's gone and has been replaced with a totally painless apparatus that offers a more accurate digital image of the inside of your eye socket. My vision is not worsening which lets me know the prescriptions are accurate. Highly recommend MEC if you're seeking an eye doctor/optician. read more

I just want to rave about my experience today at Midtown Eyecare with Dr. Powelson. I had questions about my eyes and he showed me digital diagrams. He explained to me why he was doing certain tests on me. I have never known the reason why optometrists do certain test, but now I feel so knowledgeable. And get this, THE DOCTOR HELPED ME PICK OUT MY GLASSES. Usually, the staff would help me pick out glasses, but it meant a lot that the doctor was so invested in how their patients felt about certain styles of glasses that they would like. So, if you're blind or need glasses like me, I highly recommend. read more

Dr. Powelson has been my eye doctor for a few years. I will start by saying that I HATE going to the eye doctor. I would choose the dentist always over going to the eye doctor. :) Also, I am not the ideal patient. I tend to break the rules with contacts. I did a couple of years ago, after a warning from Dr. Powelson, and ended up with a major issue. My eyes started to reject the contacts. I do not like the vision from glasses. It is different than that of contacts. He worked with me until we found a solution. I now wear daily contacts and my eyes have healed. He could have said, "I told you so," and refused to help me with contacts. He was patient and kind, yet firm with what I needed to do. He answers every question, and trust me when I say that I have quite a few. He cares for his patients and does his very best to make sure our eyes stay in top shape. The front of office staff are wonderful. They are kind and quick to assist. They go out of their way to help. They send reminders and always follow up messages with a call. I would recommend Dr. Powelson and his practice to anyone looking for a wonderful experience. Well, as wonderful as you can get with an eye doctor. ;) read more

Dr. Jared Powelson is always very friendly and accommodating. He is very patient with my endless list of questions and concerns and takes the time to explain everything in my appointment. I have purchased glasses from MEC and I thought they had a great selection of both high end and affordable glasses. The front desk staff is always very helpful and polite. I would highly recommend MEC to anyone looking for a knowledgeable provider. read more

Horrible they didn't know anything they were doing I recommend the LensCrafters at wolf chase where doctor Andrew Clarke is amazing. That is better but midtown eye care is a no go read more

My wonderful eyesight has taken a turn. I can no longer see images up close clearly and decided it was finally, at 40, time for my first eye exam. Outside of my shock at the SCI-Fi/Star Trek/Alien probe that is the exam itself this location is wonderful and Dr. Powelson is amazing! He confirmed what I already knew...perfect vision we had a good run! read more

I took my son there and for his first time was a little scary for him, but the doctors and staff are just patient, and wonderful. I have found a very comforting place to go for myself and my son to get our eye exams done now. read more

Absolutely loved my experience here. Dr. Powelson was fantastic and the staff were some of the most helpful around. I normally dread going to the eye doctor, but they got me in and out in no time! I can't wait for my frames to come in! Thanks y'all!! read more

It's been about 2 years since my last eye exam...I know...I know...lol! Been so busy, but I was looking for professional, friendly, and fast service. That is what I received from Dr. Jared Powelson and staff! I was also helped in picking out an awesome pair of glasses. Thank you! read more

I have been visiting this eye center for two years now. I used to visit an vision retail center in the mall and always felt that my prescription and glasses were a little off. This office really works to ensure Eye health and to make sure you have the best corrective option for your lifestyle. Service is fast and the staff/doctors are amazingly personal! I would gladly recommend this place to anyone in need of glasses or contacts. read more

My husband and I went to Midtown Eye Care for YEARS before we moved out of state a year ago. Since then, we've been to several other eye doctors and none compare to MEC. Hands down best place you could go! read more

I would choose zero stars if that was a choice because I left the premises in complete upset. I went to this place on the recommendation of a friend who has been a patient of Dr. Jared Powelson. When I came in, a young woman behind the desk immediately asked me what I was looking for. I said I was new to Memphis and checking out different opticians. She then rapid fire, without coming out to greet me asked if I "had a current prescription". I said not really and again I was there to look around, I didn't really need glasses but wanted to see what they carried". I inquired about the price of an eye exam as well. She then said to me " Can I have a copy of your i.d.?" I said was stunned and said, "Why???? Are you not allowed to browse?" She stated that it was "standard security practices." I said NO and left immediately. I have never had such an experience to be asked for an a copy of identification in order to browse a store of any kind. I was well dressed and had on a hat and sunglasses. It was sunny. There were 2 women behind the counter and no one in the shop waiting area. Did they think my handbag was too large and I was going to steal glasses from the display right in front of them and run?? I have severe light sensitivities and have to wear a hat in retail environments, something they will now never know as I was so absolutely insulted that I left. Did I not answer her questions to her satisfaction?? I am completely upset as I did nothing wrong to merit the need to have my i.d.photo copied. If that is their idea to get new patients it is a total failure!! I told a few friends of my experience and they have never heard of such a thing and would never go there. I have visited Focal Point in Crosstown, Eclectic Eye in Midtown and Americas Best on Summer Avenue and have been greeted warmly and made to feel at home. read more

Great selection of glasses and sunglasses. I have a hard time picking out frames, but the staff there have always been very helpful at finding what looks best on me, and within my budget. I've seen both eye doctors, and they really know their stuff. They're very thorough with an annual eye exam, and when my kids have had eye or head injuries. I recommend them to all my friends! Totally worth the drive to midtown. read more

Jarod powellson is amazing! He is extremely professional and great at what he does. He was able to get me right back as soon as I came in. Their prices were great compared to the places I had been before. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful as well. They had a lot of patience in helping me pick out the right frames and didn't rush me into picking a pair. Great overall experience! I'll definitely go back. read more

Dr. Powelson has been seeing my son, my wife and I since they opened. Midtown Eye Care's service and expertise is second to none. They take their time with you, and give a very comprehensive eye exam. Before we found them, we just went to whoever happened to be cheapest or in the area. When we first went to Midtown Eye Care, it was a totally different experience. Now we drive from Cordova. They have always treated us well. As I get older, I feel comfortable knowing they will discover any problems in the early stages because they are so thorough. read more

I went into this place of business today, both girls at the front desk acted like I came from Mars. Very rude, no offer of help in any way, shape or form. They both acted like they were to good to wait on a possible customer, don't worry girls, I will not be back. You acted very unpleasently, not welcoming in any way. Sorry I interrupted your day with my stupid request, but you know I do have a prescription that needs to be filled, and it will not be filled by you two unpleasent, unwilling, rude people. read more

I would be remiss if I did not share my recommendation of Mid Town Eye Care: I have been seeing Dr. Powelson for a couple of years now and his response & care has been "OUTSTANDING". At my age I have had occassion to utilize his services a bit more that "ususal" and his interest, thoroughness, and knowledge" have been a game changer for me! I would love to share any one of several occassions that would be perfect examples but space does not permit...so let me say, the best "review" I could share would be my recommendation of Dr. Powelson to one of my best friends. I will share with you following his visit to Dr. Powelson, he phoned me back to say..."EVERYTHING you said and more was true...he is not MY Optomtrist too"! To close, I was amazed to learn that not only does he run a successful practice but from time to time he still teaches at the Southern College of Optomety too! Great to see a young man who is successful and still has time to "give back"...my good friend will not be my last recommendation of Dr. Powelson!! Don Jamison read more
